Workshop #3: May 2019

Workshop #3: May 2019—

§ instructions.

Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.

  2. Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.

  3. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  4. The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.

  5. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  6. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  7. Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.

  8. Registration will open May 25. Claims will open May 18.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

§ form.

If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?

Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.

Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Post away and go buzz about everyone else!

Naomi Kimishima | Trauma Team

[personal profile] chatwithdeath 2019-05-05 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Player: VG | [plurk.com profile] demidemonLove
Character: Naomi Kimishima
Canon: Trauma Team (post-game)
Age: 31
Bio Blurb: (Wiki) Naomi was a surgeon, ex-bio-terrorist, and presently, medical examiner. Her past is questionable and her close brushes with death (literally) hardened her to make difficult decisions when needed.

Personality Blurb: Naomi is cool, collected, and has a sharp-tongue when necessary. Having been in the medical field for so long, being betrayed, watching bodies get broken down by super viruses, and then being around corpses all day has mostly seem to desensitize her to most events people would consider horrific. She's even shot someone (non-lethally) herself with little thought about consequence, going on to threaten killing them if they took further actions against her. In several of her cases, she's expressed sympathy to the deceased, often directs anger at herself, and rarely shows panic.

However, in moments where someone else gets hurt in her place, she becomes vindictive such as with Alyssa, a little girl whose caught in an explosion meant to kill Naomi herself. After the game's events, Naomi adopts Alyssa and is cured of her genetic illness. However, she is still trying to come to terms with getting to live after everything and learning how to be a better mother.

Preferred Essence(s): Sea Witch from 'The Little Mermaid' novel, Queen or Good Fairy from the 'Beauty and the Beast' novel. I'm more leaning Sea Witch for her essence for the potential of being helpful, but still warning and later rolling her eyes at people seeing consequences for their choices.
Looking For: Open to other Essences that are fairly neutral parties able to go lawful or chaotic, or just tend to be more support in their story. They could also be motherly or maternal positions, but not wicked stepmoms or evil queens.

Appearance: Here is her original appearance. For the Sea Witch, I'm looking to go Jellyfish-based Mermaid. She can change to her original appearance on land, but underwater, fish. As for the other two probable essences, not much about her physical appearance would change save for attire, and going almost nymph-like for the fairy aside from pointed ears and wings.

Abilities: Normally, Naomi's abilities don't consist of much magically speaking as everything she's had to learn. She could use the Healing Touch which could reverse the most critical surgical cases, and later hear and communicate with the dead, but without those, the rough ability idea break down for each current essence idea.

Sea Witch: Wish Granting/Binding Contracts, Potion Crafting, Healing, Divination, Shapeshifting, maaaybe Animal Telepathy and/or Siren Song

Queen: Tactical Analysis, Overwhelming Influence, Weapon Proficiency. There could be others maybe...

Good Fairy: Not sure how to say more than Fairy Magic. The Good Fairy in the version I'm taking her from enchants the Beast's Castle thus making it permanently Spring/Summer on the grounds, watches/cares for him in general while he's cursed, and manipulates events that result in Beauty coming to the Beast's Castle.

Quirks: As the Sea Witch, she can warn people about the dangers of wishing, but if their heart truly desires it to be granted, she can't say no. As a Queen, there's a new level of wariness to people since she ended up being betrayed by neighboring countries and the Evil Fairy. Finally, the Good Fairy, the inability to lie so that would be fun.

Goal: The goal is to get Naomi to further open up again and remember what it was like to help. Also, if she can, learn those guardianship skills she needs to better raise Alyssa (if anyone could help her with cooking, bonus points).
Extra: I have other characters, buuut I think Naomi is a good start for now since I have a better idea of what I want to do with her.
Questions: Nothing right now.

Watcher Daryn | Pillars of Eternity

[personal profile] wildstrike 2019-05-05 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Corrine | [plurk.com profile] atomictango
Character: Daryn
Canon: Pillars of Eternity (mid-Deadfire)
Age: 57 (equivalent to early 20s)
Bio Blurb: Wiki page for the Watcher, which includes end-game spoilers for the first game, and a write up of Daryn's own specific background and ability information, as well as basic "at a glance" info.

SO. tl;dr, Daryn, as "the Watcher", is a rare sort of poor bastard that has been awakened to the memories of his past lives, and has also awakened to the power of being able to see other people's past lives, as well as their souls as they are now, and is even, to an extent, able to directly affect or influence them. He's also able to see and talk to the souls of the dead, acting as a ferryman between the Here and the In-Between, where souls reside before passing into the Wheel.

Daryn as Daryn, however, is a sweetheart of a boy. He's a pale elf, a druid of the frozen arctic south and a casual worshiper of the god of death and entropy, with powers that take from the more violent and destructive part of nature. Ice, lightning, and decay are his magical forte, and he's able to spiritshift (wild shape) in a very large wolf man. But despite the fact that he accepts and pulls his power from the more dangerous and feral side of life and nature, he's not always dangerous and feral himself. He's friendly, has an insatiable curiosity, and has left his roaming tundra tribes in every one of his lifetimes due to a deep, permanent longing in his soul to explore the world. He's very quick to make friends and build new families, as he finds himself bitterly lonely with a pack to travel with and protect. So expect to be adopted in some way or another.

Oh, and he has a wolf companion named Eskel. Except Eskel has kind of passed on decades ago. He's still surprisingly fluffy and affectionate for a spirit, though.

Personality Blurb: As mentioned above, Daryn is an odd juxtaposition of a happy and helpful young man with a decidedly dark view on life and death in nature. He was raised and influenced by the worship of the god of death and decay, Rymrgand, a beast that is also known as being the creator and father of the pale elf race. He was raised in a world where survival of the fittest was the law of the land, their tribe surrounded by and fighting for resources with not only the much larger predators of the tundra, but often other pale elf tribes, and while Daryn is a strong believer in helping others to boost his people's own odds of survival, he also doesn't shy away from a fight where it's needed.

At first glance, though, Daryn is the polar opposite of everything that his background would suggest him to be. He's a bright ray of light in many people's lives, friendly and playful and always quick to crack a joke. He's usually diplomatic to a fault, especially after leaving his homeland for less harsh environments, and find himself lending a hand wherever he thinks it's needed, without being asked. He gravitates to people easily, because people mean family, and family means surviving in a world where so much often ends up against you. It makes him fiercely protective of the people he cares for and that rely on him, to the point of risking life and limb to go against the gods themselves.

Preferred Essence(s): The Snow Queen herself, because she is everything that Daryn isn't, and the White Wolf, with heavy leanings to the Snow Queen.
Looking For: Honestly, I'm not too picky about what stories he'd take his essence from. While I'd like for him to take after a character that will allow him to keep a small portion of his natural abilities, such as his spiritshift/wild shape form in particular, it's not a hard must given regains are a possibility, so I'm entirely open to other suggestions!

Appearance: Full body portrait. Daryn is on the larger side for pale elves, but he's still fairly short, standing at five and a half feet tall and with the kind of build you'd see on an archer. His skin is the pale gray-blue of most pale elves, snowy white hair he keeps braided back and glacier blue eyes. He's got a few scars on his face and several more across his chest, arms, and legs, from the unfortunate accident of having a god literally step on his keep.

For the most part, his appearance might not change much for either essence outside of the clothing he wears, although for the Snow Queen I could easily see him frosting over the more he uses her power.

Abilities: The Snow Queen's power over ice and snow are already very similar to the ice magic he wields as a druid, and he's already naturally chilly to touch due to being a Pale Elf, but her essence comes with the added bonus of him being able to shape that power into a replacement spear and possibly even livable structures! As for the White Wolf, well. He gets a pseudo-spiritshift ability with a fancy magic wolf skin, which allows him to transform into a a very large and very loving fluffy good boy.

Quirks: So for the Snow Queen specifically, I love the idea of his quirk being that his heart slowly freezes over the more he uses his icy powers, becoming slowly distant and emotionless through the process and only able to thaw his heart through the tried and true power of Love and Friendship. For a man that is as loving and bright and affectionate as Daryn is, it would be interesting to play his struggle between wanting to do everything in his power to help and wanting to not lose who he is in the process.

For the White Wolf, however, his only quirk would be becoming a little more wolf-like in his mannerisms.

Goal: Honestly, my only real goal for this game is to have fun, as I've been looking for a new RP home for a while now. I'd also love to see Daryn build up a new family while he's here, as he's going to desperately miss his friends and suffers loneliness easily.
Extra: Regardless of which essence he ends up with, Daryn is nothing if not a wolf pup at heart, and is going to treat everyone he meets as pack or potential pack material.
Questions: Nothing right now, but that is likely going to change haha. Hoping I get to play with everyone here! :>

Ryotaro Dojima | Persona 4 (Golden)

[personal profile] detectiveforhierophant 2019-05-05 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Name | [plurk.com profile] lucineblue
Character: Ryotaro Dojima
Canon: Persona 4 (Golden), Post-Game
Age: 40-41
Bio Blurb: (Wiki.) Ryotaro Dojima is a forty-one year old lead detective in a quiet, not quite rural town of Inaba. The tall, broad shouldered man with brown hair, grey eyes, and constant three day stubble is still coming to terms with the death of his wife in an unsolved hit and run several years before. He struggles to be a single parent to his 6 year old daughter, Nanako, both because of her resemblance to his dead wife, his feelings of inadequacy of connecting with her, and the fact that he still has yet to solve her mother’s murder. Due to the strain, he throws himself into his job, often coming home very late, scared to face her. This strained relationship comes to a head when his 16 year old nephew comes to stay with them, and a string of horrific murders and kidnappings begin happening in Inaba. In the year his nephew comes to stay with him, Dojima begins to come to terms with his feelings of inadequacy due to his failings as a parent and his frustrations at his inability to solve these terrible crimes in his hometown. While he has a hard time believing it, he suspects there is something unnatural about the kidnappings, refusing to give up on them, despite the rest of the police force closing the case after the arrest of a suspect. When he discovers his nephew was involved somehow, Dojima ends up seriously injured chasing after a suspect who had chosen Nanako as his latest victim. Despite nearly losing his daughter in the process, Dojima entrusts his nephew to track down the true culprit: his subordinate Tohru Adachi, who had manipulating everyone for his amusement.

After both he and his daughter are released from the hospital, Dojima vows to better balance his work and home life, with his daughter’s blessing. Though told the true story of the murders being orchestrated by a vengeful demon controlling another dimension behind the screens of tvs, his pragmatic nature struggles to believe such a wild tale, though he knows there is something unnatural about the case.

Personality Blurb: 'Hard boiled', 'Stoic', 'Rough around the edges' can all be words to describe Dojima. He's a honest, hard working man who's not afraid to get his hands dirty in his investigations, but is definitely a workaholic. He doesn't suffer fools, and is more than willing to smack his junior partner, Adachi, in the back of the head if he's being a dumbass, as well as lecture Souji and Yosuke for their own stupidity during the investigation. He's intelligent (though not quite to Naoto Shirogane's absurd levels) and has good detective intuition, but ironically his pragmatism and emotions can sometimes blind him in more abnormal investigations. Speaking of emotions...

"Kind hearted" "Well meaning" "As emotionally intelligent as a brick" Can ALSO describe Dojima as well. He truly does care about the people of Inaba, his family and his co-workers, but often times fumbles on actually expressing that properly, especially with Nanako and Souji. He tries, by god he tries, and he's gotten better, but he still stumbles with how to say what he's feeling or figure out what his little girl emotionally needs. Before and during Persona 4's timeline he had been obsessed with finding his wife's killer to the point of being neglectful to Nanako, but thanks to Souji's help has really learned what being a 'family' means, and that he wants to protect Inaba as both a detective and a father.

Preferred Essence(s): King Arthur, from the Arthurian Legends, reflecting both his Hierophant Arcana in Persona 4, as well as the more tragic aspects of his history. The Soldier from the Twelve Dancing Princesses for being again, an older figure who does investigation. Prince Hoori from the legend of the origin of the Emperor of Japan-- who while married the daughter of the sea dragon, spied on her while she gave birth (despite her making him promise not to) and upon seeing her in her dragon form, lost her forever.

Looking For: Honestly any story/folklore/mythology that has an older male character who has to either solve a mystery or is sort of 'kingly' is great for me. Though we could make him a prince charming type, that'd be hilarious. Give me all your ideassss.

Appearance: Here he is. Honestly he wouldn't change much, other than wearing period appropriate clothing.

Abilities: Unlike his nephew, his nephew's friends and his Junior Partner, Dojima is just a regular human; he does have investigation skills and training to handle a gun. Also, he would have training in taiho-jutsu, a martial arts used by police officers in Japan as an alternative to using their fire arms. So I guess he'd keep those skills? Though the gun thing could be lost. If he was infused with King Arthur's essense, being able to sword fight using western methods, horseback riding and being able to talk to to fairies/fight giant monsters would be expected. Also maybe I want him to use big ass showy attacks with Excalibur like the people from fate/go do, alright. Let me have this. For the Soldier, the ability to turn invisible, and for Prince Hoori, the ability to breath under water.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions!

Quirks: Finding himself acting more chivalrous than normal. Like he was always a good man, but the whole 'King of Knights' thing makes him act more regal. Sort of annoys him.

Goal: Friiiendship and awkward dadding the younger ones. Coming out of his shell more, learning how to express himself better, complaining about these damn kids, etc.

Extra: Might consider throwing Junpei Iori from P3 in here someday, but we'll see.

Questions: Seriously if anyone has anymore ideas, plz tell me.

Eliot Spencer | Leverage

[personal profile] likeknives 2019-05-05 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
cw for this character will encompass violence and murder, self-harm, and his history is implied to involve child death.

Player: Indy | [plurk.com profile] Indymica
Character: Eliot Spencer
Canon: Leverage, just before "The Long Goodbye Job," Season 5, Episode 15
Age: 39
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Eliot Spencer is the "Hitter" in a group of thieves dedicated to righting wrongs and helping people where the 'law leaves off.' He's a reformed assassin, who was also in the U.S. Army special forces (most likely Delta Force.) He also used to work for a criminal mastermind and was his best assassin, in which he did horrendous, unforgivable things for. He had a change of heart and stopped contract killing and used his skills from the military and his time as a hitman to become a 'retrieval specialist.' Through a job that went terribly wrong, he fell into this new found family of thieves and became dedicated to protecting them with his life.

His job in the team is basically an all-around bodyguard, who uses his physical abilities as well as his clever, strategic thinking to ensure safety for everyone else. A lot of people underestimate him and think he's just the dumb muscle, but he's actually clever and uses his accent, sweet, friendly charm and decent grifting skills to use this to his advantage. Throughout the five years that he's with Leverage, he helped save countless people from evil corporations and CEOs, survived an airplane crash, accidentally became a country music star, played on a baseball and hockey team, helped free a small country from the clutches of a dictator, foiled various terrorist plots, and became a professional chef.

Personality Blurb: Eliot had lost touch with his emotions for many years, only being able to feel properly again once he stopped killing. Learning how to cook had taught him how to feel again. Still, once Eliot found his true family through the Leverage crew, that's when he was truly learn to let go of his walls and allow himself to care and love them. Even though he feels that he can't ever atone for what he's done, and that nothing he'd ever do in the future could possibly square it, he dedicated his life to the crew. There's a part of him that takes the pain because he thinks he deserves it. As much as he doesn't like killing and has sworn never to do it, he will and has killed to protect them. Eliot is ruthless, able to make difficult decisions to shield the team from the fallout of such. Eliot will gladly take on the role of protect in the moral sense as well, if there's something dirty that needs to be done, he'll do it to save the souls of his team.

Eliot can also be incredibly gentle and kind, despite his gruff outward demeanor he truly cares about helping people and especially helping his friends, and can be extremely passionate about things that he likes, like cooking. He cares about justice, not the law, and will break every rule and law there is to make sure that justice is served. His protectiveness may stem from his upbringing and his initial desire to join the army to serve his country, but also because of the things he’s done for Damien Moreau, which may have included killing children. Whether that was by accident or on purpose (and it’s highly implied it was on purpose), Eliot’s now fiercely protective of any child that might be in danger as a way of atoning for his past.

Eliot gets irritated and annoyed easily, especially if the others in his crew are being playful during inappropriate moments in a job or are purposefully teasing him. Of course, this only goads his friends into teasing or pranking him even more, which only riles him up into levels of sheer indignation hitherto unseen by mankind. He can be playful too, but on his own terms, and is often playful during fights where he’s got the clear upper hand because of his skills (which is most of the time). He truly and genuinely enjoys difficult fights. He's also paranoid, and for good reason. He doesn't want to become famous in any way, there was one point where he ended up getting a fan site because of his country music persona for a con, and he tells Hardison to get rid of it because he can't have his face out there like that.

Preferred Essence(s): Big Bad Wolf (either from 3 Little Pigs or Red Riding Hood): Eliot's past definitely lines up with the story of the Big Bad Wolf, as he was an assassin and took innocent lives. It would be interesting to have his past come back to haunt him in this manner, especially something that he could not escape from and have to deal with every day. Also, he canonically likes being associated with wolves. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast would be fun too, because one of Eliot's defining traits is his anger and annoyance. He's also secretly romantic and is good at choosing the kind of flowers people will like to receive as gifts.

Looking For: Anything to do with thieves or protectors, or former soldiers would be interesting too!

Appearance: Eliot would definitely be getting wolf ears and a tail because he would hate it. He usually dresses in leather jackets, and tends to favor hoodies as well. He'll still be keeping his hair long which he would try to use to hide his ears. It won't work.

Abilities: Eliot is a normal human albeit at top physical condition and with a unique skillset, so it would only be building upon those natural abilities already. Being able to have a wolf form would be great as well, and he'd be a little less salty about the ears and tail thing because he'd think turning into an actual wolf is cool.

Quirks: Eliot's motto is food is life. That will now include very raw meat.

Goal: I've been looking for a game for Eliot for ages and Leverage can be both very dramatic and heartbreaking, and an extremely lighthearted comedy. I'd love for him to get into both silly shenanigans as well as angst and even more character development in this game.

Extra: Nothing as of right now!

Questions: Nothing as of right now!

Evora, The Watcher | Pillars of Eternity

[personal profile] soul_cypher 2019-05-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Ash | [plurk.com profile] Claireki77y
Character: Evora the Watcher
Canon: Pillars of Eternity, after rescuing Saeda from her undead family.
Age: 26
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Evora is a former slave, from Old Vailia. Her family were indentured servants, to pay off a great deal of crushing debt. Evora was made the Master's young daughter's companion, and whipping girl. Noble children were not beaten, when they were naughty, but instead kept poor children, to be beaten in their stead. From this, Evora has many scars, but also had a good education, for she had to be well presented, to walk beside a noble girl. Evora showed a talent for ciphering (the ability to read souls, and soul residue on items a person had touched, for information about the person), and was instructed specifically to develop it.

When the old Master passed, his son inherited her family, and their contacts. Finding no use for two aging servants, he transferred they're debt, to Evora, and released her parents. Having a skilled cipher was incredibly valuable, and he made every effort, to compound her debt indefinitely. Figuring this out, Evora made her escape, cutting off all ties, and running to the Dyrwood, and it's open promise of a new life.

Personality Blurb:
Evora is cool and self contained. People would likely call her frosty, and hard to get close to, however she has a very soft heart, under the icy exterior. She loves animals and children, and empathized with people who suffer under unfair circumstances.

She's very serious, and laughs rarely, because she has learned to keep her emotions to herself. In truth she is very vulnerable, and longs for companionship. It's just difficult for her to trust people. But when someone does break through her walls, she's a fierce friend. Loyal, protective, and passionate.

The exception is with animals and children. The coldness and distrust immediately drops with them, and the gentle, giving nature she keeps hidden, comes out. She has a tendency to adopt pets with alarming frequency.

Preferred Essence(s): The Swan Princess Odette (Swan Lake), or perhaps Peter Pan? Odette needed someone to love her, to break her curse, which could be a struggle for Evora, since she's not so open. Peter Pan is the very essence of youth and being carefree, which is the opposite of her personality completely.

Looking For: Absolutely open to other options. I'd like an essence that encourages her to grow, and start healing her emotional issues.

Appearance: Evora is a wood elf, which means pointy ears, a slim build, and a tendency towards fairer features. Her hair is long and white, which she wears in a messy braid nearly always, and she has green eyes. She tends to favor wearing a hooded cloak, with the hood up, even in warm weather, just because she's an escaped slave, and had gotten used to hiding her face. She's a little underweight, even for her build, being used to only taking a little at meals.

The only essence I could see influencing her appearance might be the Swan Princess. Perhaps wings?

Abilities: Turning into a swan, for the Swan princess, and maybe gaining slow control over it, where she could just have the wings?

Peter Pan... Ok look, I kind of like the idea of accidental flying, when she laughs, or feels happy. Something she'd have to gain control over, and could be really inconvenient for a while.

Quirks: Nothing for the Swan princess, but Peter Pan had an issue with remembering, so possibly she could start to gain that forgetfulness. "If you see me forgetting you, just say 'I'm Wendy!' And I'll remember."

Goal: I love fairytales and I've wanted to play in a game just like this for literal years.

Extra: Fun canon stuff: In the world of Eora, existence repeats itself, and is call The Wheel. All souls are reincarnated, on what is called the new "Turn of the Wheel". Souls have memories, and can awaken to passed lives. It's canonically possible for all the Watcher pcs to be the same soul. People with the same soul, who are alive at the same time can happen! These are called soul twins. With the setting and how characters are brought in, we (Daryn's player and I) would like to play with this still, if possible. It doesn't give them any extra abilities or anything, it's just a cool twist that is canon compliant, that we'd like to utilize.

Questions: Nothing yet, but that could change XD

Eleytheria | Original Character

[personal profile] winds_voice 2019-05-06 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Toasty | [plurk.com profile] bratja
Character: Eleytheria
Canon: Original Character (after the prince returns to Agkelos)
Age: A few thousand years old but appears around 28-30 in human form
Bio Blurb: Eleytheria is a Spirit connected to the world of Aether (basically your typical god/elemental/guardian), more specifically the Spirit of Wind. He governs the skies of the world, controlling the flow of wind, summoning and moving clouds, spreading seeds and aiding flying creatures in their migrations. While he can't directly shoot lightning bolts from his person or anything like that, he can summon great storms, especially when angered.

Though Spirits have no true form, being made from the very essence of the planet itself, Eleytheria (or Eley for short) usually takes the physical form of a serpentine white and gold dragon with four feathered wings when he wishes to appear before humans and converse with them. Over time, he also finds himself taking a more human form, when he learns to befriend others once again and get closer to them.

Another point to note is that Spirits thrive on a sense of 'purpose'. That is, they know they have been created with a certain role in mind and must fulfil it for the health of the planet they're born from. As long as they have some sort of purpose, regardless of whether it's their original one or not, a Spirit will live on. If they lose that sense of purpose and believe they have nothing to live for, they will literally begin to fade away, ultimately to nothing. This is how a Spirit 'dies'. With a physical form, Eley can still be injured though, and will take time to recover from wounds or illness.

More about his backstory here!

Personality Blurb:
Normally, Eleytheria is calm and patient and speaks with a soothing tone. He is naturally inquisitive and won’t hesitate to ask someone about something he doesn’t understand, even if he fails to understand it after explanation. It can take him a long time to grasp certain cultural concepts among humans or any other race for that matter!

Though he is powerful, he is usually gentle and is quite happy standing on his own somewhere reflecting on the world around him and his role in keeping it ticking. This can make him seem distant and absent-minded and as he rarely outwardly portrays how he feels inside this may make him hard for people to read. Forming a close bond with him is a good way to get him to be a little more open with his feelings. His generally calm demeanour can create a relaxing atmosphere for those around him. The world moves slowly for him.

However, Eleytheria can be a sensitive Spirit and this leads to him showing a slightly darker side of himself at times. He is particularly sensitive to betrayal after his people lost faith in him and abandoned him. When he becomes upset he shows a fierce temper, often creating rain and storms and vicious gales in the process. He does not trust very easily and if any trust is broken he is not likely to forgive very easily either. He rewards people for peace and despises violence even though he lashes out himself when pushed too far. This constant struggle with his desire to be still and the imbalance of his emotions can sometimes cause problems, especially when it comes to relating to people and forming bonds with them. He is able to create friendships though, quite close ones too, and is fiercely loyal to anyone he bonds with, providing they are loyal in return. He is also shown to favour children as they are more innocent and untainted by the darkness that fills human hearts, though he may not necessarily know how to interact them as a person normally would.

Preferred Essence(s): I was thinking of Raitaro from The Child of Thunder. I've found two versions of the story and one specifically mentions that Raitaro takes the form of a white dragon when returning to the the castle in the clouds. I think it would suit Eley thematically as Raitaro learns important lessons from mortal men too and also seems to spend a lot of time reflecting alone, with his head in the clouds.

The Child of Thunder
The Good Thunder

Looking For: Any other folklore/stories featuring either elementals, immortals or dragons. Eastern dragons in particular, but if there are any others that might be of interest I will take a look!

Appearance:
Some art of his dragon form on his profile! Also see his icons for more.

I use Uruha from the GazettE as a PB for his human form right now but I'd be more interested in sticking to dragon form for the moment.

Abilities: Since the story mentions a belief that Raitaro can gather clouds to make it rain, I was thinking something along those lines, since it's similar to Eley's own powers. Either specifically thunderclouds or rain or both if that's allowed? Or maybe specifically summoning thunder/lightning with a special drum as a nod to Raijin the Thunder God.

Quirks: I don't have any specific ideas for quirks yet but if you can think of something let me know!

Goal: I'd like have Eley explore his emotions and learn how to bond with people more again. I think this would be particularly fun in a smaller game and with the theme of stories!
Extra: I can't think of anything right now!
Questions: Nothing right now!

Rudy Roughnight | Wild ARMS Alter Code:F

[personal profile] westernwinds 2019-05-07 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Kanon | [plurk.com profile] sibilative
Character: Rudy Roughnight
Canon: Wild ARMS Alter Code:F (post-game)
Age: 15

Bio Blurb: Wikipedia article for WA1 and Wild ARMs wiki page for Rudy. The fandom wiki is...not great at times, so I decided to include both.

At a very young age, an old Drifter named Zepet Roughnight found Rudy in an ancient ruin. While his interest seemed to be more academic at first, he eventually adopted the boy as his grandson and named him Rudy. Rudy grew up not knowing anything about his origins, but that didn't necessarily mean he had an easy childhood. He was teased by other children for things like not having parents and not being able to fit in, but he could at least count on his grandfather being there for him. Unfortunately, one day the unthinkable happened. During their travels, Zepet died due to an injury, and Rudy was left to wander Filgaia without a place to belong. Not only that, but he was cast out of Surf Village for using his ability to use ARMs to protect the town. The silver lining was that Rudy met Jack and Cecilia shortly after. Saving the world from ancient demons is nice, but finding people who accept you as you are really helps too.

In the middle of their journey, Rudy learned that this whole time he really was an outsider. It turned out that he is a prototype model of a mechanical being called a Holmcross (which is an extremely mangled translation of homunculus). The Holmcross were created 1000 years ago to help in the war against the demons, and the intent was to create an autonomous being that could think for itself, synchronize with powerful weapons, and closely resemble a human's physiology and adaptability. What ended up happening was that while the Holmcross ended up being all those things, they also began to enjoy killing. All of them were destroyed--except Rudy, who was sealed away in the ruin where Zepet found him. Upon having his worst fears confirmed, Rudy closed his heart, which left him vulnerable to being possessed by the dream demon Elizabeth. While Cecilia defeats it for him, he doesn't remember that part at all. Oops!

Personality Blurb:  Overall, Rudy is a kindhearted person who can't help but step in when someone is in trouble. While he's easy to get along with and a good listener to boot, he can be quiet and even shy at times, especially around people he doesn't know well. It's not because he has an innate distrust of people, but a fear of rejection has created that sense of caution in him whether he likes it or not. However, if you've earned his trust, then you'll have a friend for life in Rudy. He's fiercely loyal to his friends, no matter what. (So basically he's a puppy.) Not only that, but he likes to think that there is at least a little good in everyone. Once Rudy is convinced that you really are a good person on the inside, he won't let it go unless you do something truly reprehensible. In that way he's pretty stubborn.

His adoptive grandfather taught him about empathy, protecting others, and that strength is not just physical. Those lessons not only gave him a philosophical streak a mile wide, but they also stayed with him long after his grandfather died. Rudy doesn't like seeing other people get hurt or be sad because he understands what both of those feel like, and he doesn't wish those feelings on anyone else, not even on people who have hurt him in the past. He would rather put himself through grief and danger instead of watch someone else suffer. Honestly, at times it reaches the point of lacking a sense of self-preservation. He has been yelled at for that before, but...well. Old habits die hard.

Preferred Essence(s): I have 3 that I've been thinking about!

1. Pinocchio. With Zepet sounding so much like Geppetto how could I not, really. Zepet is the one who gave Rudy a heart and prevented him from becoming like the other Holmcross; it's because of him that Rudy became a "real boy."

2. The Ugly Duckling. I feel this essence would really tie in well to Rudy's overall arc of not only finding a place to belong, but having a rough childhood. Some swans are migratory birds too, and wandering about is something he is wont to do.

3. Tin Woodman. I had to pick a robot-y essence to put in the running. That's...pretty much the only reason, to be honest. Also because getting limbs taken off is in fact a thing he has experienced.

Looking For: I'm open to any other ideas! Any other bird or robot related essences would be A+.

Appearance: Here's one of him with his canon-current prosthetic arm. As for the essences, I'm drawing a total blank on Pinocchio, but for the Ugly Duckling, I want him to have feathers! For Tin Woodman, his prosthetic arm would have much more of a metallic sheen.

Abilities: He'd have his physical strength as usual, but since he wouldn't have his ARM, his ability to synchronize with them wouldn't do him a whole lot of good for the time being. His tools would also be gone. I'd like to have him regain them at some point (but maybe not all of them). As for essences...

Pinocchio: Rudy doesn't lie that much, so in addition to his nose growing when he lies outright, I'd also like the same thing to happen when he tells lies of omission.

Ugly Duckling: Maybe flat out giving him the ability to turn into a swan.

Tin Woodman: Great skill at using an axe.

Quirks: For Pinocchio I'd like for him to gain some mischievous tendencies and then be shocked at himself when he realizes what he's doing. The Ugly Duckling is harder because a lot of his personality traits already match up, but maybe he could have a new affinity for water. For Tin Woodman, it would be a fear of rusting.

Goal: I really love the setting and premise of the game, so having fun with that is my main goal! :> Getting Rudy to a place where he can be more open with others would also be nice.

Questions: I'm good!

weiss schnee | rwby

[personal profile] schnees 2019-05-11 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Coco | [plurk.com profile] amplitude
Character: Weiss Schnee
Canon: RWBY V5E6, right as Yang and Weiss enter Raven's portal.
Age: 18
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.) Weiss was born into the Schnee family and subsequently became the family of the ever powerful Schnee Dust Company--currently run by her father. Dust in the RWBY-verse, Remnant, is a valuable source of energy. Being born into riches didn't necessarily mean Weiss had a glamorous life, though--her upbringing was far from ideal, and Weiss lived through many familial trials and tribulations that gave her a very sheltered, skewed perception on what the real world was actually like.

At the start of the series, Weiss joins Beacon Academy in hopes of becoming a Huntress, one who protects the world from monsters known as Grimm. At first, her relationship with the other members of team RWBY--Ruby, Yang, and Blake--is rocky. Weiss lets her arrogance (and prejudice against Blake's kind) blind her initially into believing she can be a better leader than Ruby can. However, Weiss warms up to her teammates eventually and grows to love and accept the people around her.

Weiss has made leaps and bounds since joining RWBY. She found the strength she needed to leave her family and their company behind to forge her own path. Essentially, Weiss found freedom. Her goals are no longer to be a heiress to the Schnee Dust Company--she's too busy trying to save the world.

Personality Blurb: Weiss always carries herself with grace and poise and is far more ""lady-like"" than her other teammates. (Un)surprisingly, she's very sassy and isn't afraid to call people out on their shit. Sometimes it's petty. Other times, it's necessary. It was a lot worse towards the beginning of the series, before Weiss started learning about herself and warming up to her friends, which is most likely a result of her upbringing. Weiss was cold towards others because she lead a lonely life up until entering Beacon.

Since then, she's grown. Weiss has become a lot warmer and accepting towards others. She offers to talk to her friends when they're down, and one of the hugest marks of her growth is when she tells Yang she missed her when they reunite in Volume 5. She's now a lot more focused on fighting alongside her friends rather than maintaining her status as a member of the Schnee family, and she'll act brashly if she needs to in order to keep them safe.

Preferred Essence(s): Rapunzel. Weiss breaking free from her family and seeing the world and finding herself fits Rapunzel perfectly!
Looking For: I'm open to any other Essences that involve someone breaking out of their shell...or even one that's a mirror of her former self, just to mess with her a little. I am not interested in Snow White, whom Weiss is based off of in canon.

Appearance: Here! If I were to go with Rapunzel then her hair would be a lot longer. Which would be a real hassle to deal with, but that's just how it be sometimes.

Abilities: I love how Rapunzel's hair can heal others in Tangled! Otherwise, I'm not really sure what else I'd do. She'd really like to regain her weapon back though, which is a rapier.

Quirks: I honestly have no idea. orz

Goal: I'd really like to have fun with the setting, and it'd be interesting to see how Weiss makes friends without her teammates around!

Elma | Xenoblade Chronicles X

[personal profile] bladebabysitter 2019-05-17 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Dragon | [plurk.com profile] ultimadragon
Character: Elma
Canon: Xenoblade Chronices X, postgame
Age: Unknown
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.) Elma came to Earth in 2020 to warn humanity that their planet was going to be annihilated, then gave or help humankind develop countless new technologies in order to preserve mankind by escaping to the stars in colonization arks. When the battle between the Ghosts and the Ganglion finally came to Earth, she escaped aboard the ship White Whale, then later teamed up with an unknown man to fight the Ghosts off -- though not without the ship suffering catastrophic damage in the course of it.

The ship crash-landed on Mira, a mysterious planet that exists on no star-charts and seems to draw in others like a magnet. There, she and her team make allies out of numerous other xenoforms while opposing the Ganglion, who wish to eradicate humanity utterly. Much of the game is a desperate search for the Lifehold, which contains the minds of every human on Mira and transmits control instructions to the artificial bodies they inhabit.

At the end of it, Team Elma at lasts defeats the Ganglion moments before the Lifehold loses power and every human mind goes offline. Elma reveals her true nature to the others, explains as much as she can about the true nature of the Lifehold project... and, a little later, discovers that the Lifehold had failed long, long ago. And the mystery of how every human mind still exists in any form lingers on in a sequel hook painfully unanswered to this day.

Personality Blurb: Elma is profoundly competent, reliable, and steadfast; humanity exists in-game solely because of her. More than that, she's genuinely decent, constantly putting herself in danger for no real benefit to herself. Maybe decent to a fault, since she consistently blames herself for not doing better.

On the downside, she can be pretty ruthlessly pragmatic. When data was being held hostage by a traitor, she was straight-up going to take the 50% shot of hitting it to take him down. Talking him down or empathizing with him didn't enter the equation. She also accepted the reality of the politics and money behind the ark efforts, even if she didn't disagree. She also is a little aloof, though she's improved on that a bit by canon's end, and way too secretive.

Preferred Essence(s): Morgiana from Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Second in the running is Scheherazade from 1001 Nights.
Looking For: Highly competent and capable people who manage to handle disastrous situations with grace and aplomb. Also interesting would be an essence of a supernatural being that is quietly helping out someone while pretending to be ordinary. (I considered Puss-in-Boots but that's way more on the side of guile and trickery.)

Appearance: Here is Elma normally! And here she is really... Whatever her Essence, I'd like to see her actually transform when she activates her Overdrive (see Abilities!), as a symbolic difference between who Elma seems to be and who she truly is.

Abilities: Elma fights with two guns or two blades, and backs her abilities up with a number of Combat Arts. They're quite versatile, ranging from raw damage to ghost images to evade attacks to powering her Arts with her own life force...

For ones gained from her Essence? I'd like to see her Overdrive ability become weirdly generalized, making her generally more capable even in social situations or any other sort of non-combat resolution to a battle.

Quirks: For Morgiana, she's instinctively more susceptible to orders and commands. For Scheherazade, she'd start telling stories and then constantly fail to finish them until later... Basically looking for something comedic here, because Elma really tends to be the straight man of any group...

Goal: Elma won't be able to hide her nature here and still function at her best, so forcing her into a reveal she doesn't want and won't be comfortable with will get her out of her comfort zone and force her to DEAL with things and people! Make her grow emotionally and acknowledge her own personhood more!

Extra: What's the setting equivalent of giant robots? Because she's really good at piloting giant robots.
Questions: What's the deal with airline food?

Fujisaki | Shugo Chara (warning, here there be spoilers)

[personal profile] nadenagi 2019-05-19 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Chicklet | [plurk.com profile] ChickletLARP
Character: Nadeshiko/Nagihiko Fujisaki
Canon: Shugo Chara. I am thinking of pulling them from when Nagihiko has become the Jack's chair, has both eggs, but... neither have hatched. Still trying to deal with Rima's jealousy issues and having such a big secret and trying to figure out who Nagihiko is supposed to be, after so many years of being Nadeshiko.
Age: 13
Bio Blurb: Short version:

Nagihiko was forced to live as a girl until he was 12, learning to dance and move and act like a girl so that as an adult he will be able to teach both males and females, as is the tradition for the first born in the Fujisaki family. Now able to live as himself and learn to dance and act and move as a male, Nagihiko has no clue who that self is. Especially as he seems to have lost all of his powers, and an important part of himself when he decided to no longer be Nadeshiko. (Hint: Even in canon, that didn't last, so it will not last in game play either.)

Personality Blurb:

As Nagihiko: He isn't sure who he is, yet. Or who he wants to be. He is still trying to figure all that out. So he is insecure and unsure around other people, and has a bit of an inferiority complex, especially given how many people loved his "sister" Nadeshiko and don't realize what they are doing to him when they talk about how much they miss her. But when he does get comfortable, part of who he is under it all shows through. Like Nadeshiko, Nagihiko can be a troll. Unlike Nadeshiko, he doesn't hide it. When he drops into being a troll it is big and out there and obvious. Like forcing two male friends to cross dress, or accepting a hand offered to help pull him out of a pit... and using it to pull his would be rescuerer in with him. Of course, he stands behind the fact that both cases were utterly deserved, thank you very much. He also doesn't know it yet, but he is just as competitive as Nadeshiko was, and he loves sports. And as much as dance has made his life so weird and difficult... he comes alive when he is dancing. A smile like you wouldn't expect from the usually quiet boy. He is also a great tactician, though he fails to see that, and the self sacrificing sort. Brave.

As Nadeshiko: Graceful, feminine to a fault (except when a friend is in danger or when challenged to a competition), often demure. Nadeshiko comes off as this sweet innocent little girl, but seriously, she is a major troll. It is just that no one sees it, she keeps her bratishness inside, and the results of her subtle - and less subtle - maneuverings are her own private amusements. Her friends are her toys, and no one is allowed to mess with them but her. She is also very protective over her friends (again, no one is allowed to mess with them but her) and seems like there is nothing she wouldn't do for them. She really does love her friends, truly. It just isn't the same sort of love others have. Comes from spending her whole life deceiving them, perhaps. But she is generally the first to volunteer to help with things, and the first to offer a warm smile and a welcome.

Preferred Essence(s): Still trying to figure that out, open to ideas.

Looking For: stories with gender bending, or with detachable/split souls. (the second because Nadeshiko has a Shugo Chara named Temari, and Nagihiko has the eggs for both Temari and the yet unborn Chara, Rhythm. Both of which are parts of his soul/heart made manifest.

Appearance:
As Nagihiko: young man with loose long purple hair, a cocked hip, and either a shy seeming like he wants to hide, or a looking for trouble attitude he isn't fully aware he shows.

As Nadeshiko: A lovely young girl with her hair in a tight perfect ponytail. Always in something with a skirt, generally having a warm smile on her face, and her hands neatly tucked. Perfect posture.

Abilities: Once the eggs hatch:
Chara-change - when the shugo charas take over a small bit of the child's personality. There is always a physical difference that anyone who can see the charas (in canon animals, kids under 4, anyone who has a chara themselves, and certain adults for reasons unexplained. In RP generally anyone with a sensitivity to magic/souls, animals, kids under 4, an d anyone with a chara themselves.) can see. For Nadeshiko it is the design on her hair ribbon and the look in her eyes. For Nagihiko it is a set of DJ ports around his neck. Nadeshiko when she chara-changes sometimes manifests a naginata, and for NAgihiko sometimes some bit of sports equipment.

Chara-nari - as of canon point, they have seen others chara-nari but have never unlocked their hearts themselves. This is a full magical girl/boy transformation merging with their charas ala Pretear or Miraculous. It gives a tremendous amount of power, but generally requires the presence of the Humpty Lock which will not be coming into the game with them as they are not the bearers of the lock.

Quirks: None in mind at the moment, open to ideas.

Goal: I miss playing the "twins". A lot. So mostly I am looking for a fun game where I get to explore both personalities and build some good strong friendships for them. Also anything that helps boost Nagihiko's self confidence is welcome. And as Guardians, they are both hero types, so adventures are something they will happily join if they feel they can help. (Feel free to drag Nagihiko along even if he is sure he'd just be in the way, because he is REALLY good at seeing the big picture in battle and calling out useful advice and tactics.)

Extra: So... anyone want to play with a gender bending character who has STRONG separate personalities for each gender and is used to thinking of themselves as two seperate people?

Questions: Do you want to build a snowcastle? It doesn't have to be a snow castle....

Red XIII/Nanaki || Final Fantasy

[personal profile] feralhumanity 2019-05-27 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: CS | [plurk.com profile] pocketnoivern
Character: Red XIII/Nanaki
Canon: Final Fantasy VII (taken post-Advent Children)
Age: 50 (equivalent of a human teenager in his species's years)
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: The biggest aspect of Red XIII's personality is his strong sense of honour and courage that he displays. This has been a strong enough force to make him initially believe his father was a coward for fleeing Cosmo Canyon during an invasion of the Gi tribe, not realizing his father's actions actually helped save the Canyon from disaster. He is also rather polite and observant, and a little curious. He has a slight distaste for humans due to his capture and treatment as a test subject, but he's able to warm up to humans he deems are friendly. He is also very intelligent and knows much about the Planet, which comes from his time growing up in Cosmo Canyon and learning from his grandfather, Bugenhagen. This intelligence, however, puts him in a unique place of being not quite human and not quite animal. Though he has talked to Vincent about this and has come to terms with who he is, he does still struggle with this duality from time to time.

Preferred Essence(s): HONESTLY I AM NOT SURE. This is the biggest hurdle I'm facing, and am open to any possible suggestions.
Looking For: Maybe a cat-based essence like Puss In Boots or the Cheshire Cat, though I am open for any suggestion that matches his personality.

Appearance: Visual 1 Visual 2 Visual 3

Red would probably not have much change in regards to his appearance, since it's already so out there. The biggest changes I could think of would be his fur changing colour somewhat, or maybe gaining some patterns in it relating to his Essence.

Abilities: Rex XIII is a member of an unnamed, lion-like species, and has several natural abilities because of this. He is able to leap tall heights and run great distances on foot, and is able to fight fiercely with tooth and claw. His species is incredibly long-lived, and though he is 50 years old, he is still considered to be a teenager by his species. He wears headdresses that he uses as weapons in combat, and has the ability to use Materia to enable him to cast a wide variety of spells.

If need be, he could also dress up like a human, and as comical as it looks, it has managed to fool other humans in canon.

Essence abilities are still being decided on, and I'd love some possible suggestions!

Quirks: Quirks would be decided once I figure out an Essence for him lmfao

Goal: Game-wise, my goal is to give Red a good home somewhere. As for Red himself, it would probably be to get him to explore and open up to others some more, and give him more of a chance to explore both his feral and intelligent sides some more. While not his first time away from home, this would also give him a chance of exploring a completely foreign land without any of his old friends with him.

Della Duck | Ducktales 2017 (Spoilers)

[personal profile] noimpulsecontrol 2019-05-31 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Frankie | [plurk.com profile] dolewhip
Character: Della Duck
Canon: Ducktales 17, post-"Raiders of the Doomsday Vault"
Age: Early 30s
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Della Duck is Donald Duck's twin sister, and grew up alongside her brother under the care of their Uncle Scrooge. This involved a number of adventures, and at least one attempt to hunt down Santa Clause. When Della was in her early twenties, she had three eggs waiting to hatch (Huey, Dewey, and Louie Duck) - and it was at this time that Scrooge had the spaceship she'd designed built. It was going to be a gift after the boys were hatched, but Della found out about the Spear of Selene and took it for a ride. This resulted in Della getting stranded on the moon.

Thanks to weird cartoon science in the form of oxygen-providing gum, Della was able to survive in space for ten years, although she did lose a leg directly after crashing on the moon. She was able to create herself a prosthetic out of the ship's parts, and adapted to her new life - monstrous space bugs and all - while constantly trying to get home to her boys. Toward the end of the decade she spent in space, Della met moon aliens (Moonwalkers) and with their help, was able to rebuild her ship and get home. She has reunited with her family, but things have hardly been smooth sailing - Della is struggling to be a responsible mother, and her family is struggling to adjust to her being back, particularly the youngest triplet, Louie. However, she did get to take an adventure with her middle son, Dewey - not that it went entirely smoothly.

Personality Blurb:
Della is highly impulsive, prone to acting rashly without any thought whatsoever - and she also has a pretty strong degree of her brother's infamous temper. It's kind of a disastrous combination. She gets frustrated easily, but she's also ultimately buoyant - she never gives up. Her determination can also be seen in her stubbornness. While Della's not unintelligent by any means - she literally taught herself rocket science to fix the Spear - she can be oblivious and irresponsible in a way that can best be summed as "she's kind of a dumbass." She's friendly, almost aggressively so, although she's also prone to jealousy and social insecurity.

Of course, a major aspect of Della's character is that she's a mom - or, rather, that she's learning to be one. Though they're all unprepared, Della and the other Ducks are all willing to put everything into learning to be a family. Still, it's a steep learning curve. Della has no idea how to parent, really, and she's already made some big mistakes. But she honestly is trying her best. She always does.

Preferred Essence(s): Icarus of Greek Mythology. I am really into this idea, because of how well the "foolhardily flying closer to the sun and not listening to anyone about it, resulting in tragedy" thing lines up with Della's canon backstory.
Looking For: I'm open to other Essences. Characters whose impulsive or otherwise foolish behaviors caused them to bring about their own demise or misfortune. Characters who are connected to the sky/flight are a bonus, too, as Della is a pilot.

Appearance: Here is her canon appearance. If I end up going with the Icarus Essence, I like the idea of giving her wings, be those on her back or - more mythologically accurate, but less functional - attached to her arms, so to speak.

Abilities: I definitely want those wings to be functional! There aren't really any abilities for Della to lose and then regain, I wouldn't say. And if you have a suggestion for another Essence, definitely throw ability ideas my way!

Quirks: I'm thinking, because Icarus drowns in the myth, that maybe her quirk could be losing the ability to swim or otherwise stay afloat in water? But I'm very much open to suggestions - and that goes double if you have a different Essence to suggest.

Goal: I'm really into - and miss - this setting, and it just seems like Della lends herself well to the Essence system, too. I also love the idea of taking Della away from her family again, because I'm awful, but also because I think being around a new group of others will really force her to look at herself in a new light and, hopefully, grow as a person. Duck. Whatever.

Extra: Nothing comes to mind.
Questions: Nothing here, either.

Oswald | Odin Sphere Leifthrasir

[personal profile] ashadowofhope 2019-06-01 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Player: VG | [plurk.com profile] demidemonLove
Character: Oswald
Canon: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (End Game)
Age: ??? Older Teen near Twenty
Bio Blurb: (Wiki)

Adopted son of the Fairy Duke Melvin, human soldier to the Vanir, Oswald is the legendary Shadow Knight whose body and soul were bartered to the Queen of the Netherworld for dark powers. Growing into a life of only order and discipline, his fate changes upon seeing a 'blue bird'...

Personality Blurb: Merciless, blood-thirsty in action, and unwaveringly loyal at times, the Shadow Knight can be a killer and often doesn't show remorse for his actions. Though there are times he considers his actions early on, he does moreso after his father's betrayal, using his powers and skill, Oswald sets out to find his own way.

Goal-oriented, anyone and anything that gets in his way is dealt with one way or another - typically by killing it. He states himself he lives for no one but himself. However, living for himself does not apply when Gwendolyn is involve as she becomes one of the very few people he actually cares about and wants to see her happy. He's quick to anger at the mere suggestion of someone being an object - especially never say that about his wife.

Preferred Essence(s): Considering three right now: the Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Tam Lin (same name on the tin), and Hades (Greek Mythos/Hades and Persephone). Each individual is not exactly in a position they want to be in, but them's the breaks; fortunately, they'll do what they have to in order to find a way out or make due with the hand they've been given.
Looking For: Really open to suggestions. By trade, he's naturally suited for any knight or prince role, but making him rise above fate or becoming the one 'in distress' is totally fine.

Appearance: Here

Abilities: Oswald will keep his swordsman skills, but lose his powers. With each possible Essence:

Beast - Bestial transformation and he retains some features when human, Increased Strength, Increased Speed, Animal Instincts

Hades - Cerberus like a familiar companion (he'll find this weird), Summoning the Furies, traversing or disappearing into the shadows, maybe control resumes over his black fire, fire in general, or generating dark flames when he calls them, low-level Necromancy

Tam Lin - Shapeshifting (since the Queen did that, thanks Queen), Misfortune, Astral Form

Quirks:
Beast - Inability to say his name and/or animal rage. Desires to hunt.
Tam Lin - He listens well to fairies whether he'd like to or not
Hades - Avoids bright places if he can

Goal: Socialize. He kind of already technically represents Leifthrasir himself from Norse Myth, but whatever. All the more reason he needs to be around people. Also I just really wanna play him in a small game.

Android 21 | Dragon Ball FighterZ

[personal profile] 100stringcheeses 2019-06-03 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Kyio | [plurk.com profile] kyio
Character: Android 21
Canon: After the true ending.
Age: Physically looks to be in her 30s, actually 5 gotta love androids
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: Android 21 is a gentle, motherly, and somewhat naive but scientifically brilliant android scientist, harboring immense power. She is constantly plagued with hunger due to the unique cells used in her creation, though it's not the traditional kind - it's for more power, gained by turning others into sweets and eating them. This is something she's desperately fighting against however, and looking for a means of resolving without causing trouble. ... Also she's incredibly apologetic, and if she's hungry enough, can become quite the nasty, vicious individual to the point of seeming to have a split personality - which, depending on canon point, she technically does.

Preferred Essence(s): Victor Frankenstein! I had other ideas but Lae is a bully and also it fits so well that I kind of settled on it. I'm open to other ideas though!
Looking For: Essences revolving around regretful scientists mostly, especially ones with transformations.

Appearance: Right here normally, but much different in her transformed state. She wouldn't really change much appearance-wise as Victor, except maybe wearing plainer clothes. Her transformed state might not show up right off the bat, still figuring out how to make it work.

Abilities: 21 is from a Dragon Ball Z fighting game, so she is naturally freakishly strong, can shoot ki blasts, fly, teleport, and more ... so of course, she'll be nerfed right off the bat. Many of her abilities, such as teleporting, being able to copy someone else's power by seeing it once or fission, will be blocked outright. Victor Frankenstein, in other spin-offs and versions of the classic novel, has experimented on himself which lends opportunity for her regeneration to stick around (though it won't save her from fatal blows). I suppose I could also use that experimentation to explain her transformed state, but I'd like some opinions regarding that before I do!

Also her special beam to turn people into sweets will be blocked. Not that she'll notice, because she refuses to use it for moral reasons.

Edit: because i'm half asleep - ESSENTIALLY, everything that can't be explained by self-experimentation will be blocked. Ultimately, she'll be left with her unnatural strength, regeneration (albeit weaker and more reasonable), possibly her transformed state, which would likely just be cosmetic rather than a boost. If anything else comes back, it'd be from regains and the like.

Quirks: She'll have a fascination with bringing things to life through artificial means, be it animals or people. Depending on how deep in thought or work she is, getting interrupted will make her snap rather than having it being her hunger.

Goal: The main goal is to get 21 to become more comfortable with herself despite her flaws and mistakes, and learn to forgive herself for all of them. Girl's got a lot of guilt and self-hatred on her back and needs to get snapped out of it.
Extra: it's midnight why am i doing this now

Darkwing Duck | Darkwing Duck (1991)

[personal profile] terrorwhatflaps 2019-06-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Ang | [plurk.com profile] hopepunk
Character: Darkwing Duck
Canon: Post-canon, including both the Boom! and Joe Books comic runs.
Age: Late 30s
Bio Blurb: Little is known about Darkwing Duck's early life - mostly because most people in St. Canard really care about it (the mun does, however, have a lot of headcanon about it which she will TL;DR at happily if asked). His first known appearance as the vigilante we know today was in the late 70s at a high school prom, against equally fledgling supervillain Megavolt. After that, he worked alone for several years, largely under the public radar, until he hit his big break bringing down crime kingpin Taurus Bulba, acquired a sidekick: Launchpad McQuack, and adopted a young girl named Gosalyn. He spent the next four years balancing single fatherhood with protecting the city from a vast variety of venomous villains, until his secret identity was discovered by his arch-nemesis Negaduck. Negaduck attacked his home, and Darkwing went into forced retirement to keep his family and friends safe. Soon after, the Quackworks Corporation arose to fill the void, introducing a robotic crime-fighting force to keep the streets clean to the point of replacing even the police force. When the company's hold on the city became too strong, Darkwing dusted off the mask, hat and cape, and came out of hiding to uncover the true nature of Quackworks and bring it down.

Personality Blurb: The first thing anyone will notice about Darkwing is that he's fantastic - and they notice because he tells them so. Darkwing's ego is, at times, much larger than his sense of heroism (hence his chosen Essence), and it's been a constant source of trouble, as he regularly bites off more than he can chew. However, whenever anyone or anything deals a blow to his self esteem, it hits him hard. In this respect, he's almost bipolar: wallowing in self-pity and pessimism until he gets the kick in the tailfeathers that he needs, which usually sets him into overdrive, as though he's making up for the time he lost moping around.

If that weren't enough of a clue, it bears saying that DW's a big fan of melodrama, even when he's in a good mood. He's turned flashy entrances and grandiose speeches into his own personal trademark, and is very fond of providing his own narration. Part of it stems from his ego and the need to be a perpetual attention magnet, but in the humble opinion of the mun, a good chunk of the reason behind it is also that it's just plain fun ... which brings us to a couple more points: his occasional immaturity, and his originality.

In some ways, Darkwing just refuses to grow up: he's the one usually found saying "gimme the shiny thing" or "but I was here first". He's not above mocking or sassing people - even if it usually comes back to haunt him later.

At first, he won't work well with others: by and large, his default nature is to be selfish and self-centered... Usually, though, it won't take too much poking and prodding from someone to show him he's wrong, and once things are explained, or his way proves to be completely ineffectual, he'll lighten up and start cooperating, or change his tack and not only play nice, but use his skills as a strategist to make sure that everyone he works with gets to use their own strengths to their maximum potential. In other words, he'd lead a team of characters, but only if someone else forces him to.

Preferred Essence(s):
Looking For: The Brave Little Tailor (I used the Scarlet Pimpernel on the TDM but ... in thinking about that further for the purposes of the workshop, I realized it was a little TOO close to his canon and chose something that allowed for some more fun and variety.)

Appearance: Basic chemise and vest, with short pants. Bless canon for putting him in something Essence-workable for an episode. Darkwing is about four feet tall, which means he's going to need a lot of stepladders.

Abilities: The Brave Little Tailor carries useful items in his pockets: a cheese and a live bird. This falls right in line with the cartoon concept of hammerspace, which will allow Darkwing to store other objects with which to outwit his opponents. In keeping with the Tailor's most famous opponents being giants, DW will also gain enhanced strength when fighting ... but only for one blow. At first he will not be able to choose when this happens, but perhaps the mods can help decide upon a progression of control over the ability?

Quirks: Since in the original tale, it all starts with a jar of jam, he's going to get cravings for it once in a while, especially after battles. Really, really strong ones, on par with this other Jim Cummings character. Also, since the Tailor's wife learns the truth about him as he is talking in his sleep, if DW is asked a question while asleep, he will answer truthfully.

Goal: The Brave Little Tailor gains three things by the end of his story: a kingship, a wife, and a hundred men at his command. For Darkwing, this translates thus: recognition as a true hero, a soulmate, and a group of trusted and reliable friends with whom he can truly collaborate.

It sounds easy, until you consider that he's kind of a jerk who does the hero thing for attention, petrified of commitment, and pushes everyone away out of insistence that he can do everything by himself and doesn't need any help. HMM. Maybe clever wit, misdirection, and bravado can only get you so far, Tailor...

Extra: Yes, yes he certainly is.
Questions: How would cartoon violence/rule of funny work in this setting? Would they still apply?

Godzilla | Godzilla

[personal profile] titanus_gojira 2019-06-09 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Taisa | [plurk.com profile] silentdrifterz
Character: Godzila (Legendary Ver.)
Canon: King of the Monsters (2019), after the oxygen destroyer was used and he retreated to the Hollow Earth.
Age: He's been around since the Permian period.
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: This Godzilla displays animalistic traits of an alpha predator. He considered the Earth his territory and therefore will display aggression towards threats to the planet. Otherwise, he's generally a docile monster when unprovoked, leaving the city once he has beaten his foe, and even shown to leisurely swim beside military ships. Once he's in battle mode though, that's when people need to get out of there. Fixated on taking down his prey, the surrounding area become's fair game. If he knocks down a few buildings or set the place on fire, as long as he beats his opponent and restores balance, he'll pull all the stops.

Preferred Essence(s): Amaterasu - In canon, the radiation he gave off actually brought back nature, eventually. Amaterasu being the goddess of the sun, and keeping balance in the earthly realm, suits his own role in canon, but now with supernatural powers. The sun can also become a replacement source of energy for him instead of geothermal radiation.

Dagon - There was another Godzilla-like creature in the past that the ancient people thought was the god, Dagon. Suits his aquatic lifestyle and being a god of fertility adds to his restoring nature trait.
Raijin - Another deity given to Godzilla by the Japanese in canon. Plays on Godzilla being a protector of the Earth, and change out atomic attacks to lightning one. Perhaps even control storms.

Looking For: I'm pretty set on Amaterasu or Raijin, but I wouldn't mind delving into the opposite route, where he brings death instead of life.

Appearance: His dorsal might have a different color to them, pending on the essence choice. There could be more plant like or sharp features on him added, but nothing too major in his iconic look besides being downsized. Can he be 15ft instead of 10.

Abilities:
Godzilla is built to be durable and pack a punch. Most conventional human weapons do not work on him, so guns, missiles, swords, etc, unless it's an oxygen destroyer. Anything not of earth based is fair game though, magic and such. This can be nerfed further if preferred. He can regenerate and the process is sped up when exposed to radiation. While he can walk on land, he's comfortable in the waters, having gills along the side of his neck. And of course, dat atomic breath.

Amaterasu: Solar breath instead of atomic breath, plantlife grows where he travels, more powerful in daylight, weaker at night, possibly create items from his own being (the mirror, Yata no Kagami; the jewel, Yasakani no Magatama; and the sword, Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi), create his own small light if needed, possibly manipulate the strength of the sun based on his own power level, fire everywhere. More advance stuff could be taking on a different a appearance. Could he hear prayers from people and fulfilling them might give him karma points for...something. Prayers in general could also empower him for a short time.

Amaterasu was created when Izanagi washed his left eye, so maybe his own left eye is a weak spot/source of his Amaterasu traits.

Extra: This isn't ability he or his essence share, but he could have the option to communicate through telepathy. Not speak, but through imagery and sounds.

Quirks:
A fascination for dancers. More curious and benevolent towards others. He may even assist those into gardening and farming.

Goal: What happens when you put a bringer of balance in an entirely different setting? Will he also claim it as his territory and assert his dominance over the Storyteller? Or Aspects with animal traits? Maybe the need to maintain balance leads him to take extreme actions. Also just the idea of giving him another perspective of coexisting with people.
Extra: For science.
Questions: Yes, this is real.

Keith | Voltron: Legendary Defender

[personal profile] tempredmental 2019-07-02 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Sailor G | [plurk.com profile] duches77
Character: Keith
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender (still mildly undecided on canon point, but it would be at least midway through S7)
Age: 21
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: Keith goes through a lot of growth through his canon. When we first meet him, he's a hot-headed, short-tempered emo angry at the world who has a major adrenaline addiction. He's introverted, socially awkward, and hates working in a team. However, under all his "disciplinary issues", he's a born leader with massive potential, if only someone could help him find and hone it. That person turned out to be Takashi Shirogane, "Shiro", top pilot of the Galaxy Garrison. Keith is wary and reluctant to let Shiro help him, as he's been burned before and has trust issues, but he finally relents and gradually begins to open up to Shiro. When that happens, we get to see just how damaged and lost Keith really is, but he begins to shine, learning to temper his reactions and keep his emotions in check. When an accident causes Shiro to go missing during a space mission, however, Keith immediately reverts, and manages to get himself expelled from the Galaxy Garrison. This theme repeats later, at the start of canon, when Shiro comes back from being MIA, and Keith immediately finds stability in having Shiro back in his life. The temper is there, but Shiro's influence helps keep it in check. But, when Shiro once again goes missing at the end of season 2, Keith drops right back into his defensive anger. It's an anxiety response, and shouldering the entire task of finding Shiro on himself, coupled with being chosen as Shiro's replacement, takes its toll on his tolerance of the rest of the team. The Black Lion also saw Keith's buried potential, but Shiro's loss prevented Keith from finding it in himself. It isn't until Keith steps away from the team and is able to not only discover himself without Shiro's influence, but also find his mother and resolve his repressed abandonment issues, that he's able to truly come into himself as a much calmer and reserved leader. When Keith is settled, he has the ability to be calm and stoic, taking in as much information as possible before jumping to a decision. He's probably the most serious of the team, his social awkwardness often making it hard for him to pick up anything but the most obvious of slapstick humor, but he does slowly learn to trust his team and open up to them, showing a softer side that enjoys their company, appreciates their strengths, and does actually tell jokes (even if they're heavily laden with sharp sarcasm and delivered in a very deadpan manner). He develops a strong protective streak for the rest of his team and becomes fiercely loyal to them. He's brave, if a bit foolhardy, and passionate about what he thinks is right (sometimes to the point of being stupidly stubborn). He eventually learns to be more confident in himself a few above average skills to find a few more above average skills in himself, and to stop seeing mostly his own faults and underestimating himself. Keith is sharply self-aware, almost to a fault, as he used to quickly delve into what was wrong with himself instead of what was right. He's still self-aware, but he's learned to deal with his faults, work with them, and compensate for them in ways that makes him a better person all around. He's also learned to stop internalizing a lot of his issues, and express himself better to his team, aka: his found family, and let them in to help him.

Preferred Essence(s): Little Red Riding Hood, a fairy tale from the 17th century, and borrowing from the more modern 1986 Broadway "Into the Woods" and the 2011-2018 television series Once Upon a Time versions. Sassy, sarcastic, pragmatic... carries a knife. Very attached to one particular person (Is Granny Shiro? Who knows!). Can eat like anything with no apparent ill effects (you should see the scene where Hunk lays out a massive meal between Keith and Lance... this boy can eat). Later gains the ability to transform into a wolf?

Looking For: Not really sure. I'm open to options. I'm a little stuck on Red as the essence for a variet of reasons, not just personality, but fandom AUs (there's fanart of Keith as Red Riding Hood and it's hilarious) combined with the fact that he first bonds with the Red Lion, he's the Red Paladin, wears red armor (and clothes... color-coded bishounen sentai anime protagonists, man...), and they call the Red Lion just "Red" fairly often in the show. Also, Little Red was my fav Into the Woods character back in high school. If I'd gotten the opportunity back then to try out for her, I would have. (I did get the chance much later in life to audition for the play, but my age kind of set me into an adult role, so I ended up trying for the Baker's Wife, but got Cinderella's Mother... haha... I was a tree.)

Appearance: Keith's main look will likely be fairly similar to normal. Wearing mostly red and black in color scheme, but with an obviously more fairy tale focused style. And, of course, a red hooded cloak. And, yes... fairy tale style dictates that he'll likely have his hair tied back, as it will probably be longer than canon. (With a red hair tie, of course...)

Abilities: Little Red doesn't have any crazy powers or anything like that in her original incarnation. I would like Keith to eventually gain the ability from Once Upon a Time where he can transform into a wolf at will. (That's another fandom AU version I happen to like... go figure.) I'm undecided if I want his wolf form to look like the wolf he has in canon, Kosmo the cosmic wolf, or a normal wolf, especially if he ends up bringing Kosmo along as his pet.

Keith's own abilities, while there, are fairly simple and very underdeveloped. He seems to carry an affinity towards quintessence and manipulating it, but no where near on the level of a Galra druid or an Altean alchemist. He can summon his bayard from long distances, sense when things are off, quickly develop extremely deep bonds with the Lion he's paired with, and feel "strange energy" or sources of quintessence (such as the Voltron Lions). His instincts, while causing him to sometimes act brashly or impulsively, are rarely wrong, and, while he makes mistakes, he always seems to come out on the other side, if a little worse for wear. I'm not really sure how to make this work in game... but quintessence is considered a "life force" in canon, so maybe something with that where he somehow ends up tied to the life force of other living things in some way and can manipulate it somehow.

Keith is also insanely durable, something he apparently shares with Little Red, who gets swallowed by a wolf, but lives to tell the tale. Keith takes a beating and keeps going through the Blade of Marmora Trials, and he can keep up with even the strongest and fastest of the Blades at times. He's not a brute force fighter like some of them, relying more on his agility and quick reflexes to dodge and strike fast, but he can take a hit and keep fighting. This is probably something he'd keep/start with, as it's something he already shares with the essence.

In canon, Keith has a daggar from his mother that, in the beginning, is his only connection to his heritage. He's extremely attached to it, and it to him, as the blades from the Blade of Marmora are tied to the weilder's quintessence. Keith is able to share the blade with his mother because they're related and have similar quintessence. I would eventually like for him to either get the blade back specifically, or be able to recreate it in another way with a blade he gains in game. Luxite blades are capable of being transformed into different shapes by the Galra. Another aspect I'd like to borrow from Into the Woods is that Little Red starts carrying a knife in the second act after her adventure in the Wolf's stomach. Keith can then learn to change this knife in the same way that his own Blade in canon transforms, or he can just fully regain the actual canon blade. I'm open to either option.

Quirks: More modern versions of Little Red portray her as a somewhat sassy brat, which Keith already is as a kid (and doesn't really grow completely out of this, it just morphs into something more akin to sarcasm instread of outright being a little shit), so he'll have his normal quirks, like daring into dangerous things, or stuffing his face (possibly cleaning your plate in the process), and challenged to a fight if you even dare look at his cloak funny (Granny His Dad Shiro Someone important gave it to him). But, I can definitely see extra confusion and misunderstandings of social cues as far as what's a lie designed to trick him and what's not. Someone protect this boy before he gets talked into doing something truly stupid.

Goal: Little Red is easily swayed by sweet talkers and can be fooled by people who seem to be "okay" at first glance. Keith has learned by experience to not be very trusting, but he also tends to take people at their word. The parallel here being that Keith might be a little more gullible than in canon until he relearns that lesson. Obviously, the "don't talk to strangers" lesson is heavy here because of Little Red, but Keith needs to actually talk to strangers in order to do his thing as a leader in canon, so it becomes more of a tale on learning to read a situation, which Keith is terrible at. He's still learning how to do it, even towards the end of canon, but he's gotten better, and the epilogue shows him growing into a role that's a balance of being the leader he can be and the introvert he is. He finds a way to take on the responsibility to do what's right and he learns how to interact with others without looking like a hermit in the spotlight anymore. In that, he's similar to Red in that they both need to figure out how to know when something's okay and when something is telling them it's time to get out and be safe.

Character:
Canon: Kingdom Hearts, Post-KH3
Age: Young adult.
Bio Blurb: Wiki.

Personality Blurb: He has a famously short temper and a lack of patience and impulse control, though compared to other incarnations of him, it's not quite as focused on. Though he can be grumpy and cynical, he's a loving and loyal friend, and father-figure.

He wears his heart on his sleeve rarely expresses his moods half-way, when he's happy he's elated, when he's sad he's depressed, and when he's angry.... well...

Preferred Essence(s): So, I have a bit of a dilemma. I feel like The Sorcerer's Apprentice would fit him rather well, since it's about an impulsive magician who finds himself in over his head. HOWEVER, the Fantasia short is canon within Kingdom Hearts, so I don't know how that would affect anything.

Looking For: Anything about wizards, sailors, or people with bad tempers or a lack of impulse.

Appearance: Here, any changes would depend on the essence

Abilities:
He has access to the basic elemental spells used for combat in SE games, and the healing Cure spell (and he heals you just fine, thank you very much) and though he usually uses the second level RA spells, he certainly has access to all tiers including the fourth level ZA spells.

He also has more powerful Meteor and Flare spells. His Flare spells take the form of fireworks, however he's also capable of casting up to the ZETTA level of Flare spells (Which is several orders of magnitude more powerful than the more common Megaflare) but this isn't without it's consequences.

Essence based powers will depend on the Essence used.

Quirks: Would depend on the essence.

Goal: To reconnect with his long lost sister

Sora | Kingdom Hearts

[personal profile] skyofreality 2019-07-16 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Xae | [plurk.com profile] Tsukeru
Character: Sora
Canon: idk, maybe post KH3
Age: 15-16
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: Sora is a kid with a big heart (room enough for at least three to take shelter in), pure dreams, a sometimes-reckless heroic tendency, a cheerful smile, unbending loyalty, a friendly disposition, and a stubborn streak. Basically he's all the Disney princesses and some Squeenix heroes rolled into one. Is there an Essence for that?

Preferred Essence(s):

Looking For:
Sun Wukong because let's face it, Sora has a million tricks up his sleeve and defies all sorts of crazy odds just like Sun Wukong. Also he can be extremely reckless, some of his best friends are animals and already transforms when necessary. Not to mention the whole journey thing.

The Goddess of Light as Sora is the sort who smiles sometimes in spite of any hardship, who's light can be hidden but never stolen away forever. And because if he ends up in situation he can't get out of, does need a rescue.

Or a pirate of some sort because Sora loves pirates, and loves being one. Yo-ho, yo-ho.

Appearance:

As Sun Wukong, he'd be mostly the same - because shapeshifting abilities but could naturally look like this. Maybe randomly sprout a monkey tail if he's surprised or angry. But he could look like any creature (think all KH animal tranformations). And Sora would generally have a Chinese-style wardrobe like so and this.

As the Goddess of Light, Sora would be completely normal except for the fact that when he's happy/excited he lights up. Literally. Not eye-burning kind of bright but sort of like a sunbeam has landed on him perfectly. Clothes-wise, he'd be steered away from the black and wear something like this, I guess. idk it's 6 in the morning.

Sora as any pirate would just be his KH3 pirate costume.

Abilities:

As Sun Wukong he'd start off with increased strength and speed, though not to the story's extreme just yet. More "able to lift a person with one-hand" and about rabbit speed (45 mph) - but in short bursts - to start with. He will have a staff that only extends to about sword-length (and looks suspiciously like a key) and shrinks down to regular key size. He'll have about 4 tranformations to start - monkey being one of them. And have one wind spell: basically Aero. Eventually gaining the other magic Sun Wukong is capable of - water, stop, bind (in KH terms). I'm not sure I want to play with the clone from hair aspect, but it would be fun to have him use strands of hair to make animals, objects or weapons.

For Goddess of Light Sora would have a flock of red birds... that tattle on him for various things. Just because that would be amusing. When plunged into complete darkness, he will be unkillable. Then of course, the light aspect of it all. He'd be able to summon light, in softer tones it would be emotionally comforting and slightly healing (scrapes, small cuts, bruises) while in brighter it would cause burns and blindness (temporary). Though Sora would have to concentrate to make it harmful. Eventually he'd be able to gift people with temporary magic - which mostly involves being able to transform others into animals.

Quirks:

Sun Wukong I kind of want to combined the magical circlet and Inuyasha beads into one thing. Meaning Sora's crown necklace becomes like the magical circlet, and when certain words are spoken - he's forced to the ground.

Goddess of Light just this: “Because I was sent into the world to spread joy and good will,” she replied sweetly. “I was not made for one person, and I will continue to treat all people the same. Though I wonder if the red tattletale birds count as a quirk?

Goal: Sora would absolutely want to help out to fix the fairytale world because that's just who he is. (I want him to find out that some of his friends are considered fairytales.) Also let him friendship at all of you because Velvet probably won't.

Extra: If you know any tales of good-hearted pirates, lemme know.

Questions: Would anyone protest if I pulled him from post-KH3?

Hunk | Voltron: Legendary Defender

[personal profile] holdthemtogether 2019-07-20 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Satyr | [plurk.com profile] dolewhip
Character: Hunk
Canon: Voltron Legendary Defender (post-s7e13)
Age: 18

Bio Blurb: (Wiki)

Hunk was a cadet at the Galaxy Garrison, part of a team with Pidge and Lance, when his path as a Paladin of Voltron was set into motion. Following a former Garrison explorer's unexpected return to Earth, and an equally unexpeected team-up with a former classmate, the three cadets - thanks in part to Hunk's analysis of Pidge's data - found the Blue Lion of Voltron. Thus began a wild adventure into space, where Hunk and the others met Coran and Princess Allura, at the time thought to be the only two Alteans left. The group learned about the history of Voltron, and that they were to be its Paladins. Lance accompanied Hunk to retrieve Hunk's Yellow Lion, and soon all of the Lions had been collected.

Their mission? To stop the Galra Empire's evil reign. Hunk experienced a lot in his role as Paladin, a role he initially took reluctantly. He helped the aliens on the Balmera to find the will to fight for freedom, he grew into the Paladin role and found his inner strength and courage, and - along with the rest of Voltron - was betrayed by and then defeated Lotor... Oh, and he enchanced his skills as a cook quite a bit. When the Paladins finally returned to Earth, Galra had lay claim top the planet, and Hunk's family had been captured, leaving him more determined than ever to stop the Empire. Ultimately, the Empire was stopped, and while things are at a moment of relative calm, a hostile robot being piloted by a mysterious Altean has raised some new questions.

Personality Blurb:
Hunk is a caring and warm young man. The only thing he loves more than food is his friends, and he's been described as the heart of Voltron. He sees the importance of keeping the team together and trying to keep the peace at all times, and he's none too found of conflict. Even with all the courage he's gained, Hunk is still somewhat prone to fear and panic, and he's probably had the hardest time adjusting to and accepting the weirdness of life as a Paladin, and being in space.

Despite being a goofball at times, Hunk is notably intelligent, specifically in the engineering and mechanical sciences. Hunk is easily distracted by hunger, and his usually laidback nature is tempered by a stubborn streak that comes to play mostly when he's trying to protect others, even if he's not in the right on how he goes about this. For all his concerns about the life he's become part of, being a Paladin of Voltron has truly given Hunk a strong sense of hope.

Preferred Essence(s): Winnie-the-Pooh from A. A. Milne's books, or possibly Goldilocks from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Both characters are heavily associated with food. Winnie-the-Pooh is also the heart of his own group, similar to Hunk's role in the Voltron group.

Looking For: I think I'm definitely going to go with one of those two!

Appearance: Hunk's usual look. If I go with Goldilocks, he'd have blonde hair. If I go with Winnie-the-Pooh, he would have plush teddy bear ears. I might also go ahead and swap Hunk's usual top for a red t-shirt, as Disney's version of Pooh wears. Definitely open to further suggestions!

Abilities:
Winnie-the-Pooh: The ability to summon a balloon that would allow him to float, always being able to find food - particularly sweets - nearby, and a tendency to get himself/his hands/feet/head stuck in smaller spaces.
Goldilocks: Higher scrutiny: Hunk would be able to discern if something was wrong or off with an object, especially when compared to similar objects, the ability to open most doors with a single touch, and possibly the ability to turn into a bear under certain circumstances, currently undecided.
Open to further suggestions for both!

Quirks:
Winnie-the-Pooh: Forgetfulness
Goldilocks: A lack of boundaries with others' property.

Goal:
The fun of playing Hunk, for me, is playing with the way he is the heart of the group and wants to keep his friends together and everyone safe, and this is a good setting for that, as he'd have come to protect his own world as well as various stories! I also love the idea of Hunk having sometimes dangerous tasks that he needs to complete to achieve that goal, because that brings about character growth.

Princess Rosella | King's Quest

[personal profile] iv_rosella 2019-07-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Ash | [plurk.com profile] Claireki77y
Character: Rosella of Daventry
Canon: King's Quest, canonpoint would actually be after KQ5 or KQ6
Age: early 20s at canonpoint
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: Rosella is intelligent, brave, generous, curious, and a tad reckless. She's been groomed to lead a kingdom, and is highly educated in a variety of subjects and skills.

She's polite and graceful, but has a tomboy streak a mile wide. She loves to swim, and actually hates long skirts, because they tangle her legs when she running or jumping. She also has a temper, and seeks revenge when insulted. (Her idea of revenge is cleaning someone's filthy house, so they can't find anything.)

Preferred Essence(s): Considering the Brave Little Tailor

Looking For: open to anything that has a heroic, clever bent. Subverting the common idea of a damsel in distress also a bonus.

I'd also be willing to go totally opposite of personality and give her a villain Essence, that she would struggle to reconcile. In Canon, she kills someone unintentionally, and they die a very painful death. She admitted to her mother that she felt a kind of dark, terrifying thrill at the time. (This person was extremely evil, and it was not her intention to kill at all)

Appearance:Fairly tall, with sapphire blue eyes and very long golden hair. She's pretty much a fairytale princess. (Her bust size is a bit of a long running joke, as
on her first 16bit sprite they jiggled when she walked. I'm not even kidding.)

Abilities: Rosella has no supernatural abilities or magic. She has a lot of skills, but mostly those come from years of study and hard work. So anything she might gain from an Essence would be cool to her, honestly.

Quirks: open to ideas!

Goal: second verse same as the first: I love this game and want an active character!

Katie "Pidge" Holt | Voltron: Legendary Defender

[personal profile] pidgeypidge 2019-08-01 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Lizzie | [plurk.com profile] Doodlebuginette
Character: Pidge
Canon: post season 7
Age: 16
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Once upon a time, there was a girl who idolized her older brother and her father. She wanted nothing more than to be like them, and to one day follow in their footsteps. The girl and her brother were very close, and he taught her many things. One day, the brother and father had to leave on what should have been a routine mission, leaving the girl and her mother all alone. Time passed, and bad news came. The mission was a failure. The father and brother had perished. But the girl didn't believe this, and she set off to find the truth.

Her attempts at being subtle were swatted away like so many gnats, and so the girl took matters into her own hands. Cutting off her hair, she left her home and disguised herself in order to live amongst the people her father and brother had worked for. While searching for truth, and her family, the girl makes a couple of good friends. Soon, they become inseparable, and after a chance encounter on a roof one night, the girl follows her boys on what will eventually become a grand adventure involving an evil empire, spaceships and aliens of all colors, shapes and temperaments.

Personality Blurb: At first glance, Pidge comes across as a salty little tech gremlin who's just as likely to blow you off as she is to humor you at all. The truth is, unfortunately, not that far off. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. She's loyal to the people she cares about and would do just about anything for them. Though slow to trust, she's probably one of the better friends someone could ask for when they do manage to earn that title. Pidge is, in fact, a technical genius, able to work out the finer points of most types of tech after minimal amounts of exposure. She can be a little impatient at times, preferring to make things happen, rather than to sit around and wait. Admittedly, she has a bit of a temper, and it tends to burn hot and fast. While not one to typically hold grudges, she does take slights against herself or the people she cares about quite personally. Once she's made up her mind about something, it's next to impossible to change her decision.

Dealing with people in general for extended periods of time tends to exhaust her, and Pidge is absolutely more comfortable when she can fade into the background to let other people take the spotlight. The only possible exceptions to this rule are when she has something tangible to focus on. Giving her a project or a goal will generally override her tendency to hermit in a big way. On the flip side, things like shiny new tech or retro video games are almost always enough to excite her to the point of giddy rambling. There is probably nothing in the universe more important to her than family. Her friends would rank a close second, and everything else would fall somewhere below those things.

Preferred Essence(s): Hua Mulan, off the top of my head.
Looking For: I'm open to suggestions, because I can't decide if having an essence that would suit her would be more fun than something completely random that she'd go "wtf" at~

Appearance: Casual Pidgeon Armored Pidgeon

Abilities:

Quirks:

Goal: Honestly, I love playing Pidge because she's always interesting to throw at a variety of settings. Despite her occasional aversion to people, I feel like she'll do well here because she's able to get along with so many different types of people. Ultimately, I'd like her to realize that opening up to people (outside of her group) isn't as terrible as she's come to believe.

Extra: ba-choo (still figuring things out, ahaha~)

Crona | Soul Eater

[personal profile] desertedsoul 2019-08-17 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Einir | [plurk.com profile] moxana
Character: Crona Gorgon
Canon: Soul Eater, post-finale
Age: unknown. 14-16 most likely
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Crona is the child of an extremely powerful witch by the name of Medusa. Medusa raised Crona from a very young age as a tool and a weapon, replacing Crona's blood with black blood and transforming Crona's blood into the demon sword weapon, Ragnarok. This abusive childhood and isolation from the rest of the world left Crona very unhappily loyal to Medusa and very naive in certain ways.

Crona is introduced as a dangerous villain, being seen by protagonist Maka as they kill and consume an entire church full of human souls. This eating of souls was ordered by Medusa in her attempts to push Crona into becoming a Kishin.

Through her compassion and her ability to see souls, Maka was able to see that there was more to Crona, and to venture into their soul in order to befriend them and show them that they do have a choice in who to be. This led to Crona's rehabilitation at the DWMA and character development into a hero.

Personality Blurb:

Crona is an extremely anxious child. They are fearful of most everything, and ruminate on their own failures nearly constantly. It's difficult for them to believe that others like them or want them around, and they feel unable to cope with nearly anything that causes them anxiety or fear. Making decisions, talking to people, talking to girls, being a student, all of these are things Crona has expressed difficulty with.

In spite all of this, Crona shows incredible bravery when push comes to shove. They are willing to put themself directly into harm's way in order to protect Maka, the one person they truly consider a friend. They also make the incredibly difficult decision to face down Medusa and stop her from hurting more people, in spite of their paralyzing fear of her and the knowledge that facing her would mean either their own death, or that they would have to kill their own mother.

Once befriended, Crona is incredibly loyal. As previously stated, they willingly put themself in harm's way to protect first Maka, then the entirety of the DWMA. Crona's faith in Maka is absolute, and there is never a doubt in their mind that she will defeat the Kishin and survive. Her bravery and stubbornness in choosing to see Crona for who they truly are proved to Crona that she can do anything. That kind of loyalty would hold true for anyone Crona would have a reason to believe in.

Preferred Essence(s): Fenrir from Norse Mythology, Mordred from Arthuriana, Minotaur from Greek Mythology

Looking For: Suggestions! Working with Crona's status as a living weapon, or their struggle against an oppressive parent are all welcome. Mostly looking to find ways to empower this kid and give them a chance to be heroic and have a Nice Day

Appearance: Tall and skinny and extremely androgynous. Crona has no canon gender and doesn't really care either way what gender you think they are. Crona wears an ankle length longsleeve black dress over a white button up turtle neck, and black boots. They have light pastel pink hair in a very choppy short style that they probably cut themselves with kitchen scissors, and big sad grey eyes.

If we get Fenrir, I might give Crona wolf ears and/or a tail for kicks. If Minotaur, might give them horns. Open to suggestions!

Abilities: DUNNO, HELP?

Quirks: Open to suggestions?

Goal: Letting Crona have a vacation from their canon and from having Ragnarok in their blood. Giving them more chances to be heroic and make friends.
Extra: I'm mostly here because I was enabled by Joelle and I rewatched Soul Eater recently and wanted to play with My Child

Scrooge McDuck | DuckTales 1987/Disney comics

[personal profile] moneymatters 2019-08-24 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Zumi | [plurk.com profile] zumidotexe
Character: Scrooge McDuck
Canon: DuckTales 1987, with additional flavor from Disney comics; canonpoint is after the end of the series (as well as including DuckTales Remastered and Scrooge's Quest)
Age: 150 Old
Bio Blurb: (Wiki.)

Scrooge is the very definition of "rags to riches." Starting as a humble shoeshine on the streets of old Glasgow, he would eventually work his way up to The Richest Duck in the World, a process that- according to the most well-known timeline, anyway -would take him over 50 years. Ever since then he's done whatever he could to maintain that position, defending against the likes of common thieves, witches, fellow billionaires, rats, mystics, earthquakes, aliens, and everything in between.

He's also known as one of the world's greatest adventures, and for good reason. The way he got that wealth was walking the earth, delving into caverns, digging mud and tundra, and uncovering ruins to add to his wealth. He's quite capable of defending himself, having also picked up several methods of fighting on his travels, and with his temper is certainly not someone you'd want to cross. He also has quite a large amount of book knowledge on many subjects under the sun, especially those historical and linquistical, all of which help him while researching for the next big score.

Taking on family such as Donald and his nephews hasn't slowed him down one bit. In fact it's credited with reviving his quest for adventure, something (again, according to Life and Times) that'd flickered out when he... lost contact with his sisters. As such he delights in taking them with him, though it's hard to say which he enjoys more: the adventure, or the time spent with the kids.

Personality Blurb: Scrooge is a cheap, thrifty old miser. He's bitter and temperamental (second pissiest duck in Duckburg, only after Donald), swings frequently through lows and highs at the drop of a dime heh, tends to swing first and ask questions later, and will often shut out even people he trusts deeply. He gets overtaken by greed and obsession, especially if his Number One Dime (which is exactly what it sounds like) is in peril, and heaven help the poor soul who gets between him and his money. He's got an old, cold heart, and will toss anyone out on their ear who dares disturb his Moeny Bin.

Or, that's the image he'd like you to come away with. While most of the above is certainly true to one degree or another, those that Scrooge lets in will see the true side of him. He's incredibly loyal and kind, gives help (yes, even monetary) to those who need but don't necessarily seek, and is dedicated to absolutely anybody he considers his family, be they blood or not. While Scrooge can occasionally bend the rules in his favor he never breaks them, and he never goes out of his way to use or abuse people, looking down on those that do. Once you gain Scrooge's trust, you'll have an extremely strong, capable, hardworking ally, and might even get to claim the coveted "Uncle Scrooge" spot someday. That's when you know you're in for life.

Preferred Essence(s): Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. While this was originally a nod toward Scrooge's placement in the Donald Duck comic adaptation of the same story (yes really), it's also one that tends to fit him. A singular obsession (for Scrooge, his money) that he'll hunt down even to his own detriment, and that of those around him. While he doesn't have nearly the same, ah, sanity slippage of Ahab, he's certainly had his moments, yet also still maintains a "father to his men" vibe, as Scrooge's family and employees remain loyal to him even on occasions of him losing his fortune and turning destitute. Additionally Scrooge himself has experience sailing, though to date that hasn't included whaling.
Looking For: Certainly open to other ideas, though! Other than the obvious namesake one. I gravitated toward Ahab for a few reasons, but can definitely consider other suggestions.

Appearance: Natural: ...He's a duck. Three feet tall and twenty pounds, dressed like an Edwardian gentleman, with spats and pince-nez to match.

Essence: Peg leg/artificial leg for sure. Considering also a long overcoat and beard as well, though those may only appear in instances of using an ability.

Abilities: Being probably an ordinary human, if maniacal one, Ahab doesn't have many abilities to use. However what he does have, he makes up the difference for in the skill of them. Chief among them is his harpooning; you don't get to be captain of a whaler for nothing after all, and he's spent decades doing it before his first encounter with Moby Dick. Certainly open to others, however!

Quirks: Open to ideas! Scrooge has a few shared personality traits, though in different volumes, so deciding which way to weigh them could certainly be fun.

Goal: Honestly at the moment, just have fun with the setting! I'd certainly like for Scrooge to add to his family, as the poor old boy was lacking before Donald and the boys (and Webby) came along. Other than that, just going to play and see what opens up.
Extra: If you're even remotely interested in/familiar with Donald Duck comics/canon, read the Moby Dick adaptation. It's amazing and GORGEOUS.
