Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.
- Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.
- Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.
- The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.
- Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
- Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
- Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.
- Registration will open May 25. Claims will open May 18.
If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?
Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.
Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.
Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.
Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?
Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.
Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Hunk | Voltron: Legendary Defender
Character: Hunk
Canon: Voltron Legendary Defender (post-s7e13)
Age: 18
Bio Blurb: (Wiki)
Hunk was a cadet at the Galaxy Garrison, part of a team with Pidge and Lance, when his path as a Paladin of Voltron was set into motion. Following a former Garrison explorer's unexpected return to Earth, and an equally unexpeected team-up with a former classmate, the three cadets - thanks in part to Hunk's analysis of Pidge's data - found the Blue Lion of Voltron. Thus began a wild adventure into space, where Hunk and the others met Coran and Princess Allura, at the time thought to be the only two Alteans left. The group learned about the history of Voltron, and that they were to be its Paladins. Lance accompanied Hunk to retrieve Hunk's Yellow Lion, and soon all of the Lions had been collected.
Their mission? To stop the Galra Empire's evil reign. Hunk experienced a lot in his role as Paladin, a role he initially took reluctantly. He helped the aliens on the Balmera to find the will to fight for freedom, he grew into the Paladin role and found his inner strength and courage, and - along with the rest of Voltron - was betrayed by and then defeated Lotor... Oh, and he enchanced his skills as a cook quite a bit. When the Paladins finally returned to Earth, Galra had lay claim top the planet, and Hunk's family had been captured, leaving him more determined than ever to stop the Empire. Ultimately, the Empire was stopped, and while things are at a moment of relative calm, a hostile robot being piloted by a mysterious Altean has raised some new questions.
Personality Blurb:
Hunk is a caring and warm young man. The only thing he loves more than food is his friends, and he's been described as the heart of Voltron. He sees the importance of keeping the team together and trying to keep the peace at all times, and he's none too found of conflict. Even with all the courage he's gained, Hunk is still somewhat prone to fear and panic, and he's probably had the hardest time adjusting to and accepting the weirdness of life as a Paladin, and being in space.
Despite being a goofball at times, Hunk is notably intelligent, specifically in the engineering and mechanical sciences. Hunk is easily distracted by hunger, and his usually laidback nature is tempered by a stubborn streak that comes to play mostly when he's trying to protect others, even if he's not in the right on how he goes about this. For all his concerns about the life he's become part of, being a Paladin of Voltron has truly given Hunk a strong sense of hope.
Preferred Essence(s): Winnie-the-Pooh from A. A. Milne's books, or possibly Goldilocks from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Both characters are heavily associated with food. Winnie-the-Pooh is also the heart of his own group, similar to Hunk's role in the Voltron group.
Looking For: I think I'm definitely going to go with one of those two!
Appearance: Hunk's usual look. If I go with Goldilocks, he'd have blonde hair. If I go with Winnie-the-Pooh, he would have plush teddy bear ears. I might also go ahead and swap Hunk's usual top for a red t-shirt, as Disney's version of Pooh wears. Definitely open to further suggestions!
Abilities:
Winnie-the-Pooh: The ability to summon a balloon that would allow him to float, always being able to find food - particularly sweets - nearby, and a tendency to get himself/his hands/feet/head stuck in smaller spaces.
Goldilocks: Higher scrutiny: Hunk would be able to discern if something was wrong or off with an object, especially when compared to similar objects, the ability to open most doors with a single touch, and possibly the ability to turn into a bear under certain circumstances, currently undecided.
Open to further suggestions for both!
Quirks:
Winnie-the-Pooh: Forgetfulness
Goldilocks: A lack of boundaries with others' property.
Goal:
The fun of playing Hunk, for me, is playing with the way he is the heart of the group and wants to keep his friends together and everyone safe, and this is a good setting for that, as he'd have come to protect his own world as well as various stories! I also love the idea of Hunk having sometimes dangerous tasks that he needs to complete to achieve that goal, because that brings about character growth.

And I just thought of a new power for Pooh's essence as well: maybe he could have a transformation power as well, but instead of a werebear he might be able to just... turn into a giant teddy bear with super strength, sort of like this but, you know... friendlier and more Pooh-like.
ALSO! Honey pot grenades, plus or minus a launcher! Ooh, and maybe honey from different flowers has different effects (lavender or chamomile for sleep, fireweed for incendiary, another one for extra-sticky honey to trap foes, etc.).

That's an awesome idea, thank you! I definitely want to use that, and I think the honey pot grenades, too. (The different flowers = different effects is a particularly cool idea!)
