Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.
- Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.
- Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.
- The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.
- Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
- Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
- Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.
- Registration will open May 25. Claims will open May 18.
If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?
Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.
Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.
Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.
Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?
Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.
Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Naomi Kimishima | Trauma Team
Character: Naomi Kimishima
Canon: Trauma Team (post-game)
Age: 31
Bio Blurb: (Wiki) Naomi was a surgeon, ex-bio-terrorist, and presently, medical examiner. Her past is questionable and her close brushes with death (literally) hardened her to make difficult decisions when needed.
Personality Blurb: Naomi is cool, collected, and has a sharp-tongue when necessary. Having been in the medical field for so long, being betrayed, watching bodies get broken down by super viruses, and then being around corpses all day has mostly seem to desensitize her to most events people would consider horrific. She's even shot someone (non-lethally) herself with little thought about consequence, going on to threaten killing them if they took further actions against her. In several of her cases, she's expressed sympathy to the deceased, often directs anger at herself, and rarely shows panic.
However, in moments where someone else gets hurt in her place, she becomes vindictive such as with Alyssa, a little girl whose caught in an explosion meant to kill Naomi herself. After the game's events, Naomi adopts Alyssa and is cured of her genetic illness. However, she is still trying to come to terms with getting to live after everything and learning how to be a better mother.
Preferred Essence(s): Sea Witch from 'The Little Mermaid' novel, Queen or Good Fairy from the 'Beauty and the Beast' novel. I'm more leaning Sea Witch for her essence for the potential of being helpful, but still warning and later rolling her eyes at people seeing consequences for their choices.
Looking For: Open to other Essences that are fairly neutral parties able to go lawful or chaotic, or just tend to be more support in their story. They could also be motherly or maternal positions, but not wicked stepmoms or evil queens.
Appearance: Here is her original appearance. For the Sea Witch, I'm looking to go Jellyfish-based Mermaid. She can change to her original appearance on land, but underwater, fish. As for the other two probable essences, not much about her physical appearance would change save for attire, and going almost nymph-like for the fairy aside from pointed ears and wings.
Abilities: Normally, Naomi's abilities don't consist of much magically speaking as everything she's had to learn. She could use the Healing Touch which could reverse the most critical surgical cases, and later hear and communicate with the dead, but without those, the rough ability idea break down for each current essence idea.
Sea Witch: Wish Granting/Binding Contracts, Potion Crafting, Healing, Divination, Shapeshifting, maaaybe Animal Telepathy and/or Siren Song
Queen: Tactical Analysis, Overwhelming Influence, Weapon Proficiency. There could be others maybe...
Good Fairy: Not sure how to say more than Fairy Magic. The Good Fairy in the version I'm taking her from enchants the Beast's Castle thus making it permanently Spring/Summer on the grounds, watches/cares for him in general while he's cursed, and manipulates events that result in Beauty coming to the Beast's Castle.
Quirks: As the Sea Witch, she can warn people about the dangers of wishing, but if their heart truly desires it to be granted, she can't say no. As a Queen, there's a new level of wariness to people since she ended up being betrayed by neighboring countries and the Evil Fairy. Finally, the Good Fairy, the inability to lie so that would be fun.
Goal: The goal is to get Naomi to further open up again and remember what it was like to help. Also, if she can, learn those guardianship skills she needs to better raise Alyssa (if anyone could help her with cooking, bonus points).
Extra: I have other characters, buuut I think Naomi is a good start for now since I have a better idea of what I want to do with her.
Questions: Nothing right now.

I also think her having some kind of animal telepathy with sea creatures would be really cool, like being able to call them when underwater for help or to attack. You could always start small, like only able to communicate with small fish and only basic commands and then she can work her way higher to stronger animals and larger groups!
no subject
Yes! Something like that! I was also thinking about this ability becaaauuuse... well, she might give people wishes, but she maybe doesn't want to always have those making wishes suffer. Now, ain't nothing she can do to help directly, but she can probably nudge the fish into helping in some way.

Re: Naomi Kimishima | Trauma Team
You know my thoughts on this, considering. Sea witch gets the bonus of freaking Roxas out too.

Okay, okay, I guess I'm going with Sea Witch.

Fangirling out of the way, I'm LWP, the helper mod here at FT. I play Kotori, a teenager who loves food and cooking but is scared of knives. Nice to meet you! And all your potential essences look amazing, especially your work on the Sea Witch! Tossing in another vote for that one!
no subject
Heya! Haha, oh dear, will refrain from having any scalpels around her... though, how does cooking work out with that fear of knives? Lol, at this point, sounds like Sea Witch is going to win by majority.
