Workshop #6: September 2020

Workshop #6: September 2020—

§ instructions.

Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own. REMINDER: We are NOT a memloss or AU game! The only things that are being altered are the character's abilities and maybe gain a small personality quirk, but that's all.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.

  2. Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.

  3. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  4. The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.

  5. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  6. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  7. Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.

  8. Public Registration is closed until further notice, but anyone with an invite and current players can register at any time.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread. We also have a Discord to temporarily meet current members and get further help!

§ form.

If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?

Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.

Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Post away and go buzz about everyone else!

Bigby Wolf | The Wolf Among Us

[personal profile] sweariff 2020-09-17 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Gray | [plurk.com profile] skeksis
Character: Bigby Wolf
Canon: The Wolf Among Us; end of season 1, episode 5
Age: Several centuries old, but he physically looks like he’s in his mid to late thirties.
Bio Blurb: Wiki.

Essentially: fairy tales are real and they live among us. Hundreds of years ago, the inhabitants of a collection of magical worlds known as the Homelands were forced from their homes by a mysterious tyrant known as the Adversary, who launched a world-conquering campaign over the Homelands and laid waste to anyone who opposed him. The survivors who were lucky enough to escape took refuge in the real world, concealing their magical identities and creating a community for themselves in what would eventually become New York City. Calling themselves Fables and their town Fabletown (yeah, they aren't very creative), these former heroes, villains, monsters and talking animals have to balance the pressures of living in a world without magic while trying to keep their existence secret from the rest of the world and the Adversary.

Bigby is Fabletown's appointed sheriff in charge of making sure they can do the latter while protecting them from each other due to the former. He's also the Big Bad Wolf. In the past, Bigby was infamous throughout the Homelands for being a malicious, murderous beast that ate hundreds — possibly thousands — of Fables, harassed little girls in red hoods, and generally made life a living hell for countless people before the Adversary showed up. This changed once the Adversary began his takeover, and over the centuries, Bigby has gone from a monster to a responsible and genuinely remorseful man determined to prove that he's changed.

Unfortunately, he's also the protagonist of a Telltale game, which means that everyone hates him regardless and nothing he does seems to matter in the long run. Oops.

Personality Blurb:

The short story: Bigby has Issues™

The long story: Bigby is a good but flawed person with a myriad of personal and interpersonal issues that keep him from fully obtaining the redemption he's chasing. Being a reformed villain and a wolf, he often struggles to rein in his animal instincts, and being the sole law enforcement official in a town full of dysfunctional and desperate magical creatures hasn't really made that easy. As a result, he can come across as temperamental, jaded and distant, capable of being callous and using aggressive language and behavior out of spite just as often as necessity. There's a sense that he's hardened himself to be tough on the job, which can give the impression that he's unsympathetic and doesn't particularly care about other people's feelings.

However, every so often the cracks show and reveal a person who's far kinder than he lets on. Living as a human for centuries has taught him empathy, but it's also given him a guilt complex the size of a small mountain. Often, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy and self-loathing, both of which are implicitly the reason why he's thrown all of his will and energy towards doing his job. However, they've also led to him developing genuine compassion for others and a responsibility to do right by them. As moody as Bigby can be, he can also be understanding, thoughtful, teasing and supportive, and when he's not letting his temper get the best of him, he's an otherwise pretty professional and even easygoing guy. While his self-worth is abysmal, at the very least it hasn't given him an ego. Even though his self-control over his emotions has a bad tendency of wavering when he's frustrated, which in turn can lead to him spiraling deeper, he never really loses sight of the kind of person he wants to be and remains driven and determined to help others and do the right thing, even if he has to put himself through hell to do it.

Preferred Essence(s): The North Wind, Snow White or Cinderella
Looking For: Ideas for his abilities, his appearance while using his Essence, heck, any other kind of Essence that you think would fit him. If you know his canon, Snow White and Cinderella seem like natural fits for him because they're his besties, but so does the North Wind, who's his dad. If you haven't already figured it out, this is a really weird series.

Appearance: Like this. Bigby's actually a pretty smol guy at 5'8 who's on the leaner side of muscled. He has dark brown neck-length hair, big ol' brown Disney eyes, and perpetual five o'clock shadow.

Abilities:

I don't have a clue. Of his canon powers, I would like to see him regain his ability to transform into a wolf and all the wacky in-between forms around that, or at least get his animal senses like his superhuman sense of smell back, but everything else is up in the air. He also has a healing factor and partial immortality, but I could take it or leave it tbh.

Also, since he's canonically the son of the North Wind, he has some minor wind manipulation abilities as a wolf (basically, the huff and puff thing you read about in The Three Little Pigs) and the weirdly specific ability to indefinitely hold his breath. If I go with the North Wind for his Essence, I'd like those abilities to carry over along with giving him general wind manipulation, cold resistance, and maybe flight. As far as changes to his appearance, I'd like to give him white hair; maybe as a Quirk if I can get away with it.

For Cinderella, having a midnight clause to his powers would be neat. Maybe he can only use them before midnight and after that they enter into a cooldown period until daybreak? I also want his clothing to completely change to something elegant but practical that puts a more gender neutral spin on the Cinderella aesthetic; maybe something akin to Utena's duelist uniforms to go with the faux-magical girl vibe he’s got going on here. As far as other abilities go, I'd like him to gain some kind of glass weapon (a rapier, probably) and the ability to talk to animals.

For Snow White, definitely some kind of poison resistance and animal communication, but idk other than that. Give me whatever ideas you have.

Quirks:

For Cinderella: He has the compulsion to constantly tidy up. This is great for him because he's such a slob. It's not so great whenever he's finding himself doing it for other people. I feel like I could do more with this, so I def have to think about it.

For the North Wind and Snow White: I'm not sure yet, but again, ideas are great.

Goal: Make new friends. Throw him up against familiar settings and themes. Make him hate his life even more.
Extra: I'd throw a gif here but this is already turning into a tl;dr fest LMAO
Questions: If I think of anything, I'll let you guys know!

Ren Amamiya | Persona 5

[personal profile] schrodingers_joker 2020-09-17 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Nikil | [plurk.com profile] nikil_san
Character: Ren Amamiya/Joker
Canon: Persona 5, unsure on canon point yet
Age: 17
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: On the surface he seems like a quiet meek guy and he can be quite nice, but he's much more than that. He likes to be dramatic and extra, and troll others sometimes to get a reaction out of them. He has a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid to stand up for others, even if it gets him into trouble.

Preferred Essence(s): Loki or Robin Hood or any other suggestions
Looking For: A trickster sort of character that more morally gray but not necessarily evil, though I can work with evil if needed.

Appearance: In canon he's usually 5'9'' but if he becomes Loki, he may increase in height a bit (maybe 5'11'' or 6'0''? I'm not sure how much taller he should be.) Other than that, he has fluffy curly black hair and sharp grey eyes with black glasses. He also usually wears his school's uniform but not all the time.

If it's Robin Hood instead, he'll likely wear a green outfit and hat.

Abilities: If he's Loki, he'll have the ability to shapeshift into a girl or a horse. If it's Robin Hood, he'll have near perfect ability with a bow and arrow.

Quirks: If Loki, be more prone to mischief than normal but that's about it. Or if it's Robin Hood, feel the urge to steal from the rich to give to the poor, especially royalty.

Goal: Have fun with the character mostly. Any possible shippy shenanigans would be a neat plus but I'm not gonna force it.
Extra:
Questions: Am I doing this right? New potential player here.

Daniel Kanegem | Original Character

[personal profile] scattered_rose 2020-09-17 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Zumi | [plurk.com profile] zumidotexe
Character: Daniel Kanegem
Canon: Original character
Age: 22
Bio Blurb: Daniel is, at his core, a guardian. The world he comes from is basically urban/modern fantasy, but with the addition of monsters called Chaotics that range the edges of society and kill the unawares. Among the ways the world fights back are the Sentinels, a very old class of warriors (for how long they've been around, imagine if the Knights Templar still existed today) that specifically train from a young age to take out Chaotics. Daniel is one of these, having been raised in a Sentinel town called East Hollow.

I'd like to say he has a rather ordinary life outside of his Sentinel work but he really... doesn't. Oh sure, he has friends (for those that remember Bridge, that's one of them) and plays bass in a band, but there's not much else beyond that. Because of this and some other reasons, he's started to question what he's doing, but that's a discussion for...

Personality Blurb: ...this section. But first a general understanding of who he is. Daniel is relatively quiet and introspective, often found standing sentinel heh on the edge of some precarious precipice watching people below, Batman-style. Which he knows is a cliche and which he does on purpose, since he's got a rather mischievous side to him. He's not the one going "HOLD MY BEER" but he's certainly the one that holds the beer, or sets up the ramp leading into the lake in the first place. He's got a temper to him too, but the biggest way to push it is not to insult him but the people he loves. Insulting him will usually involve some sort of verbal, "all in the fun of it" clapback but you do NOT want to try to hurt one of his friends or family.

As for Daniel and the Sentinels, well. Because of recent moves, other worldwise people he's met, and some other miscellaneous things, he's started to question how much of his personality is Daniel and how much is The Sentinel. Quiet, watching, combative, all these are Sentinel traits. He's been trying to evaluate whether this is the right path for him, and it's been making him rather mixed up, considering it's literally been his entire life up to this point. This has left him rather confused and emotional, making the whole Sentinel issue an extremely sensitive nerve.

Preferred Essence(s): Dracula
Looking For: Werewolves? Vampires? Something along those lines. Whenever I app Daniel to a game, I tend to go with one of his two main AUs- the ah, werewolf AU or the vampire AU. I thought that, given old vampire lore about being connected to werewolves (and wolf transformations in general), I'd split the difference this time. ...Noting that Daniel may yet be one of those AUs (the above bio was written without that in mind) when I DO app him in, which'll make it "better" better in his eyes, 100%. >>

I am absolutely open to other suggestions, though! Particularly ones that can go off his abilities, or other "monster" types.

Appearance: Over here

Abilities:
By default, and excluding his general fighting capability, Daniel can manipulate the wind. Many in his world have magic and he's no different. This usually manifests in using "wind blades" to fight with, though being an absolute nerd he's figured out the hallowed double jump (he solidifies a "disc" of air beneath his feet and jumps off that). He can also push people/enemies back, disrupt smog/mist, and other smaller, similar techniques. He also has an animal transformation, into a coyote.

If using Dracula, animal transformations will certainly be one of them. Likely a bat and a wolf at first, for basic terrain coverage. His strength will be boosted, and at later "levels" he may be able to drain energy from assorted enemies in.. traditional vampire style. Telepathy will come but later (though he may start with a rudimentary "can tell there's someone with a brainwave nearby" type senses), and he'll be able to summon mist/fog, varying in thickness. Later he'll be able to transform into, or disappear into, said mist. Higher "level" bites may also let him gain control, albeit brief, over enemies.

Naturally, all these powers will be better at night; daylight won't kill him, but it will weaken him. He'll also lack a shadow and a reflection, because of all those silvered mirrors around.

Quirks: Possibly constant thirst? Of course there's ways for vampires to get fed that aren't people's necks in the Index, but he'll still feel it. Might get a bit... touchier, his eyes glowing whenever his powers are at their strongest.

Either way though he'll certainly sleep like the dead.

Goal: Mostly Daniel figuring out who he is and who he wants to be, with further exposure to the world and to someone who Needs him (Storyteller), without being connected to the whole Sentinel business. If he can get himself out of that context, he might find the road he wants.
Extra: Being an OC Daniel doesn't have any gifs of his own, so have one of my favorite random ones

Zidane Tribal | Final Fantasy IX

[personal profile] tantailizing 2020-09-17 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Player: VG | [plurk.com profile] demidemonLove
Character: Zidane Tribal
Canon: Final Fantasy IX (Post-Game)
Age: 17
Bio Blurb: Wiki

A member of the Tantalus Theater Troupe, Zidane is a thief by trade and an actor as cover, hired by the Regent of Lindblum to kidnap the Princess of Alexandria, Garnet Til Alexandros XVII. Of course, when things go wrong, he soon finds himself embarking on an adventure to save the world and learn more about himself... you know, as one do in Final Fantasy.

Personality Blurb:

A shameless flirt with high confidence in both his words and thievery, Zidane comes off early as a laid-back pervert that hits on any women in the general vicinity. Really, he's quite a personable individual, willing to get along with pretty much anyone even those who might dislike them (even further goading them for fun), and easily takes a big brother role for young kids. He's also someone who will nose his way into other people's business and do his best to help others, but often neglects or avoids sharing his own problems.

Since post-game, he's learned better to ease up on his flirting with other women (doesn't stop him from complimenting them however~) and tries not to keep so much to himself.

Preferred Essence(s): Raven the Trickster or Aladdin, but open to other suggestions
Looking For: Tricksters, thieves that opt to help others before themselves, or characters often misjudged by others

Appearance: Link

Despite what Dissidia might show, Zidane is 5'8" (173 cm) and looks completely human for the most part - blonde hair, blue eyes, lean stature - and then one sees the monkey tail. And yes, it is prehensile and able to support his weight should he use it to hang around.

As Raven, he would gain black wings and a few feather markings on his arms.

As Aladdin, nothing really would change appearance wise.

Abilities:

As a thief, Zidane is agile and flighty (no pun intended), skilled at using daggers and his unique weapon, thief swords. He'll steal mid-battle and then cut down enemies after doing so, but if he has trouble, he's capable of causing diversions to flee without issue or open an opportunity for attack. If needed, he can sacrifice his own health to heal up others and use his luck to land more devastating attacks.

As an actor, Zidane's pretty good at memorizing lines and staging a fight, and his acting also helps him cover up his actions/intentions. He also fairly versed when it comes to costumes, dance styles, and music.

Unique to FFIX (and maybe to unlock down the line), Zidane can go into a mode called Trance under the right conditions, transforming into a pink-furred form with abilities known as Dynes. These attacks are meant to take down single or multiple targets quickly with otherworldly power.

As the Raven - Zidane could shapeshift into other forms or release the 'soot' from his wings to cause a smokescreen. He'll also gain some various elemental control, but be pretty terrible at it in the beginning. He's not a magic using/elemental bending type.

As Aladdin - Zidane would hold a ring with a lesser jinni that can grant small wishes unlike the jinni in the lamp. As well, he's a tailor's son so watch him make some elaborate costumes and disguises.

Quirks: Kleptomania... I mean, I'll work on this, but for the most part, but mostly steals food.

Goal: Make new friends and learn some more stories to tell Dagger later.

Eugene Fitzherbert | Tangled

[personal profile] smolders 2020-09-17 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Laena | [plurk.com profile] laenavesse
Character: Eugene Fitzherbert
Canon: Tangled (post-TV series but before Wedding; can be flexible for other castmates)
Age: 26
Bio Blurb: First to note is the series is based off the fairy tale "Rapunzel" and while mostly unique in its own story makes some key references. So Eugene is going to have a bit of a trip here. Originally known as the notorious thief "Flynn Rider," Eugene had a hard life growing up as an orphan, taking to theft to survive with his best friend Lance Strongbow (and a time with the Stabbington Brothers). He never would have imagined that stealing the long list princess of Corona's crown would lead him to changing his life to be the complete opposite. The wiki has nice background details for Eugene, but the quick version of the movie is he stole the crown, found Rapunzel and her really long, magical healing hair at the top of a hidden tower created by her fake mother Gothel, and after accepting to bring her to kingdom of Corona to see the floating lanterns, they go on a fun journey of self discovery that involves him dying once after cutting off Rapunzel's hair and thus cutting off her magic. But Rapunzel brings him back to life so if that's not a sign I don't know what is. After returning Rapunzel back to her royal parents and reinstating her as a princess, Eugene abandons his "Flynn Rider" alias and his thieving days to settle down to be an actual good guy and support for Rapunzel. But he pops the question of marriage a little too soon as Rapunzel wants to see the world still and isn't ready for the royal castle life just yet. Which works out since the night before Rapunzel and her handmaiden, Cassandra, discovered these strange moon rocks which caused her hair to grow back.

After the black rocks start encroaching further into the kingdom and various other events, Rapunzel sets off on a journey to discover what they are and how they are related to her and the powers she harnesses because of the Sundrop flower. Eugene will accompany her on this dangerous journey, and like her will discover his place and role by her side—as well as facing his past and learning the truth about himself. Turns out, he's actually a long lost prince himself—of the Dark kingdom that was protecting the moonstone that was the cause of the black rocks and yeah. He never really accepts his heritage as a "prince," however—hard to when he's been an orphan and a thief all his life. Nor does it change how he behaves as he always chooses to support Rapunzel.

And after many blades were crossed, betrayals forgiven, and tears both sadness and happiness shed, Eugene will once again propose to Rapunzel and she will accept. Eugene will also become Captain of the Guard with Max as his partner. Talk about drastic career changes. And that is a very, very abridged version of both the movie and TV series.

Personality Blurb: Eugene is your characteristic "charming rogue": confident, arrogant, vain, suave, quick-witted, cheerful, a social flirt. However despite how carefree he might appear, Eugene is actually quite grounded and a realist, often times making him the "straight man" (which can oftentimes result a lot of comedic and dramatic reactions) and the one to point out the fallacies or risks encountered. Although he'll take risks, he'll still be cautious about things and not be overly reckless. Having had to live as an orphan and taking to thieving, he's well experienced in the ways of the world, fully aware of how things really work as opposed to what some may hope. He prefers to believe in what he sees and can deal with his own skills rather than blindly following faith. After all, "faith" isn't going to bring food on the table or help when on the run. The only person he will put his faith in, however, is Rapunzel. And Rapunzel is someone he will stay with to devote his life and heart to, a drastic change to how in the past most of his relationships only lasted for as long as it was beneficial. Due to her influence, he stops thinking of his own needs and becomes more considerate and thoughtful of others. He's trustworthy, loyal, ready to lend a hand to friends and those who need it. But perhaps "change" isn't quite the right word because Eugene has always had a "softer," kinder side to him. But as Flynn Rider, he took on that more boisterous, roguish persona to live for himself and only himself. What Rapunzel really did was just let him see the light and to be more true to himself. So he still has that "debonair" personality, but he becomes more of an honest man. And just like anyone else, he has his own insecurities and hang ups that crop up from time to time, like what is the right choice to make and making decisions even though he knows it may end up hurting others. Although it would be a last resort, he would rather dirty his own hands than let Rapunzel or others take the fall.

Basically your traditional handsome debonair thief is now a handsome debonair knight—but with thief specs.

Preferred Essence(s): I'm mainly considering the Magic Mirror from Snow White to kind of riff on Eugene's vanity a bit. It's also a bit of a mean callback to one particular instance of mirror clones. Anyway, I thought it would be a stark difference from what he used to with the abilities I have in mind.

Looking For: I'm pretty set on Magic Mirror BUT I'M OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS! Although "thief" essences are tempting, best to stay away from those as they are too similar to his current skillset. "Prince" or "Knightly" types could work, especially the really loyal ones. Or can go for a twist and have him have a villainous essence

Appearance: A giant walking mirror. OKAY NO I'M KIDDING. In his normal form, he'll be dressed to the nines with formal suit in a silvery gray color scheme. Maybe something like this? not this There would be some accessories that have reflective surfaces.

In his mirror form, he can either transform into a giant standing mirror or a smaller hand mirror (possibly compact, too). I think I might theme it after the sash he receives, but without Corona's symbol and probably more Snow White. Maybe.

Abilities: Eugene's skill with the sword and thievery will remain as those are hard learned skills and have nothing magical or special about them. So all his natural agility and strength will remain the same, and to put it in fantasy RPG terms, he's built like a medium class thief. Strong enough to fend for himself, but he'd prefer quick bouts and finding other ways to deal with opponents, which includes just losing them entirely.

As the Magic Mirror, his weapons are mainly glass based, so glass shard daggers and blades. At first they'll be on the weaker side where they're kind of like rapiers—good for fast quick stabs but not great for prolonged fights and can break more easily than he'd like. Over time they can be reinforced to the point of being bullet proof. He can wield them by hand as well as conjure small glass shards to throw out. At first they can only either by a small blast or three small daggers, but this can increase over time. He can also create mirror shields, both physical and magical. Similar to the blades, they start off usable but weak and will increase over time, even gaining some reflective properties. Some other magical spells may involve ice. I'm basically making him more of a "light paragon" class where he has some weaponry and defensive options but leans more on the caster side than a warrior.

Some unique mirror skills would be being able to answer the age old question, "Who is the fairest of them all?" However, although Eugene might have an answer pop into his head, he won't always answer and kind of depends on his mood. Most common answers will be either Rapunzel or himself, lmfao. I might see if he can answer or reflect other things about a person, but that will obviously require player permission as to what he could figure out. Also, he can't be harmed by glass. Another cool ability I'm thinking about is his ability to traverse through mirrors. There wouldn't be a "mirror world," per se, just kind of a weird void/dimension/space that he steps through and can use mirrors and maybe other glass surfaces to pass through (similar to shadow walking). Would have limitations of course.

Quirks: Needing to check his reflection every five minutes—wait that's not a quirk. Open to suggestions!

Goal: Mostly just having another character to branch out and have fun adventuring with while also providing some straightman comedy. And he's from a Rapunzel story. Gonna be a trip.

Helios | Sailor Moon

[personal profile] helisyon 2020-09-17 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Name | [plurk.com profile] laenavesse
Character: Helios
Canon: Sailor Moon (mangaverse, post Stars Arc)
Age: dirt. No, no one really knows, but despite being likely centuries to thousands he looks 12-15.
Bio Blurb: Wiki is useless but I do have a full write-up here. For the short run, Helios is a priest who resides in a holy shrine within the mystical realm of Elysion, a place said to exist within the heart of the planet Earth. He once served the Earth's Golden Kingdom before it all fell to ruin, and since the world's reincarnation has continued with his duties for millennia with only the two maenads at his side. From Elysion Helios is able to protect and watch over the Earth, using his powers of purification when necessary. Due to his role, he is directly connected to both the Earth and Mamoru, acting as Mamoru's guardian.

To quickly sum up the Dream Arc, Nehellenia from the Dead Moon invades Earth through a solar eclipse and strikes down Helios with a curse as she attempts to find the Golden Crystal. Trapped in Elysion he is only able to seek help through his Pegasus form. Before this Helios had received a premonition to seek out the young maiden of beautiful dreams, Sailor Moon. He appears before both Usagi and Chibiusa, but he bonds with Chibiusa. He eventually reunites with Mamoru, informs them of everything, romances with Chibiusa, lots of fighting, Mamoru has the Golden Crystal, more fighting, until near the end he uses all of his powers to help their final battle. Although believed to be dead, Chibiusa is able to reawaken him with a kiss and inadvertently helps reveal her own pink moon crystal. With Nehellenia dead and Elysion restored, Helios sends them off, promising Chibiusa that they will meet again in the future, and returns to his duties in Elysion.

Personality Blurb: In terms of demeanor, Helios is your all around nice guy. He's polite, gentle, kind, helpful, and given his real age, he has ample wisdom and maturity, always ready to give advice or reassurances if needed. He is patient, tolerant, but he isn't a pushover. He has strong morals and sense of righteousness and justice. Against evil and any threats or danger, he will stand up to fight with all he has. But despite his age and wisdom, he's always lived in Elysion and thus naturally curious about everything outside of his realm. He knows about what's going on the surface, but never experienced it himself. Because of his polite demeanor, he can also be naturally charming without realizing it, but he can also be a little playful.

tl;dr he's a pure cinnamon roll.

Preferred Essence(s): Still thinking, but currently considering Morpheus and Hynos since they are both dream and sleep related. I also considered Nyx as an opposite to his usual association, and then Aether and Hemera for daylight associations.

EDIT: I remembered another one—Merlin! Kind of fitting with the whole prophecy and transformation, and priest, wizard—close enough. There are a lot of interpretations I could work with so narrowing down a few might be tricky, but I think it could be a fun one for him.

Looking For: MY MIND IMMEDIATELY WENT GREEK GODS but it doesn't have to be. Obviously Helios the Greek god is out, but I also considered other characters/figures related to the sun. In some ways I'd like to do something different with Helios, but at the same time that's like his thing so oof. I'd also like an essence that allows him to transform still, though not necessarily has to be exclusive to a pegasus.

Appearance: Helios will look more or less the same as an ambiguous young/mid-teen. The rest of his appearance will depend on his essence. He's also short. Like 5' or less short. He will continue to have the red gem on his forehead, but he will not have the golden horn that he's usually illustrated with as that would have disappeared by his canon point.

If I take him as Merlin, he'd have the classic wizard robes with a white color scheme and moon and sun themes that fits both the character and Helios himself. He'll have a staff as well, one he can conjure up at will. And maybe a big spellbook or crystal ball—maybe.

Abilities: Again will depend on his essence, but he can originally traverse through dreams, protect the planet Earth through prayer, cast some healing magic, purify, and transform into a pegasus. The key point is most of his abilities are connected to Elysion, and since he will not be there he wouldn't have access to them, anyway.

With Merlin he'll regain a few of his original powers, such as healing and transformation, but while he'll mainly take on a Pegasus form he can also take on other animal forms. I could probably tie in some of his original dream abilities as well as including brief prophetic flashes that grow stronger as time goes on. I'm mostly basing this off "classic" Merlin, so able to harness basic elemental spells with fire and light his strongest and dark magic not really something he can do very well. I'd like to take on a more "natural" slant to it as well. Maybe capable of creating small cures and blessings for protection.

Quirks: Try to turn young boys into heroes—okay no. Hmm I'm not really sure what would be a good quirk so any suggestions appreciated!

Goal: I need a nice, soft boy to balance out my loud and angry ones lmao.
Extra: Nothing but to say THIS IS TENTATIVE and I wanted to do a workshop so I could mull over my options.

Wishbone | Wishbone

Player: Amanda | [plurk.com profile] mossflowered
Character: Wishbone
Canon: Wishbone - post the shows end
Age: 10 (Soccer, dog who played Wishbone, was born in '88 and the show ran from '95-'98)
Bio Blurb: Just your typical Jack Russel Terrier who happens to love to read! What, that isn't normal? Well, now it is. Wishbone is a dog who can speak (to the audience) and loves all kinds of stories, often finding a story relatable to whatever situation comes up with his owner Joe and his friends and teaching others (the audience) the moral/lesson/etc of the story as it mirrors the resolution of what's happening in the real world. It's a PBS show, just roll with it.

Personality Blurb: Wishbone is a very friendly and excitable Jack Russel Terrier. He is very well read, but can and will fall into his dog habits such as chasing after toys, wanting dog treats, and what have you. He's also very kind and generally wants to help his owner and friends and even some of the neighbors out with their problems. He can only do so much as a dog who can't talk to humans, though. But he always has a story to tell to the audience and often finds a way to relate a story of fiction to whatever day to day troubles happens, sometimes finding a solution to the problem or helping his friends do the same.

Preferred Essence(s): Anansi from African myth, Scheherazade from 1001 Arabian Nights...
Looking For: Really any fictional figure that tells stories. I'm leaning toward Scheherazade due to her character being a storyteller who told stories to not only save herself, but to help others (namely the king). But I'm open to suggestions!

Appearance: I'd rather keep him a dog who just dresses like whatever essence he gets. Otherwise, he's a Jack Russel Terrier with an iconic paw print mark on his ear. He looks like this (pretty sure the paw print mark is make up but go with it)

Abilities: He can talk to humans!! That's about it as it depends on which essence he gets. But that's a must, I want him to be able to talk to people and talk their ears off.

Quirks: Will be a lot more open to referring to a story when wanting to help someone out.

Goal: To be cute.
Extra: I'd probably like for him to live with someone as I'm not sure he can actually live on his own. He is a domesticated little dog, after all.
Questions: I think I'm good.

Rapunzel | Tangled

[personal profile] afterhappilyeverafter 2020-09-17 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Mary | [plurk.com profile] toonish
Character: Rapunzel
Canon: Tangled (Most likely post-series, pre-wedding)
Age: 20
Bio Blurb: (Here's the film, here's the series.)

When Rapunzel's then-pregnant mother - the queen of a kingdom called Corona - got sick, the cure was a magical flower grown from a drop of sunlight. The problem with that? The flower was being used by the witch Gothel to stay young forever, with the help of a healing incantation. Rapunzel was born with golden hair that carried the same healing and youth-restoring power the flower once had, and so she was kidnapped by Gothel, and raised for 18 years in a tower. During those years, Rapunzel befriended a chameleon, got skilled in a number of crafts and hobbies, and got very, very bored. Most notably, though, she saw the lanterns that her true parents launched in the sky on her birthday each year, hoping that they'd lead the Lost Princess home. And Rapunzel was drawn to these lights, but Gothel filled her with fear of the outside world through lies and manipulation, and never allowed her to leave the tower.

It was when Rapunzel's 18th birthday was nearing that her tower was compromised; a thief called Flynn Rider tried to use it as a hiding place. This ultimately resulted in he and Rapunzel going on a trip to the kingdom, falling in love, discovering that Rapunzel was the lost princess, and defeating Gothel.

Adjusting to life back as a princess wasn't easy for Rapunzel, and so when adventure called in the form of mysterious black rocks that restored her long hair but (usually) not its powers, she was okay with that! Of course, that adventure lead to a lot of danger, no fewer than two friends betraying Rapunzel but ultimately making things right, a while spent on a semi-deserted island, the discovery of a moondrop counterpart to the sundrop... It's been a while ride for Rapunzel. Ultimately, that ride left her ready for life as royalty, though her adventurous ways will never leave her. And hey, she and Eugene finally got engaged by the end of it all!

Personality Blurb:
Rapunzel carries the light of the sun in her, and it shows in her bright and loving personality. She's an optimist and she puts her all into everything - especially helping others. She's also remarkably resilient, being all of these things despite her unhappy upbringing. She's pure of heart, but not purely sweetness. She has a playful, even mischievous side, and also is naive, even after all her experience outside of the tower. She's intelligent and talented. Sometimes, Rapunzel will put others well-being before her own to the point that she doesn't help anyone, and she can be reluctant to admit when things are going wrong for her, personally.

Preferred Essence(s): Apollo (Greek Mythology)
He's the god of the sun, plus truth, music, dance, healing, light, poetry... A lot of things that fit Rapunzel.
Looking For: Others who can be both a healer and an active hero

Appearance: Here she is in the last episode of the series. I don't think much would change, but I may play with making her outfit more Grecian.

Abilities:
-Healing powers, although I can't really decide how I want those to work so suggestions are welcome
-Summoning a bow and arrow, with a knowledge of how to use them
-Summoning musical instruments? This serves no real purpose other than that she'd have a lot of fun with it!
-Being able to make objects a temporary light source - Yes, like the DnD spell
-It's tempting to play with the prophecy thing but I have no idea how I'd make that work. If anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them, otherwise I'll skip it!
-Might develop more idea for post-campaign gains down the line.

Quirks: Gonna skip this for Raps!

Goal: To play someone with more than one brain cell. No but really, I've played Rapunzel on various sites since Tangled came out ten years ago, and she's a favorite. I'd love to see what she can bring to the Index!
Extra: Who let her be so cute?

Hope Estheim | Final Fantasy XIII

[personal profile] distantfuture 2020-09-17 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Amanda | [plurk.com profile] mossflowered
Character: Hope Estheim
Canon: During Crystallization
Age: 14
Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: TL;DR Hope started out as your typical emotional teenager, yet in the end, he grows and matures into something more. He learns that he can't just keep his emotions to himself, blame others for things he can't control and, most of all, that he needs to think for himself. That he has friends and family to count on, to ask for help, and to also know that he is his own person. l'Cie or not, Hope Estheim wasn't named Hope for no reason. He gives hope to his friends and ultimately helps end the fal'Cie rule on Cocoon, freeing the people and allowing them to live under their own control.

Long version Hope was really your typical 14 year old teenager who was thrown into a situation that no one can really imagine as all he did was hang out with friends, go to school, and visit a festival to have some fun with his mother (along with being angry over his father breaking yet another promise). He was a very naive, sensitive, and insecure child, whose insecurities tended to stem from relying on his mother for protection and confiding in her, but also being rather distant from his father, who tended to break his promises after Hope had idolized him a lot during his childhood. He can be emotional when his emotions get the best of him, although he tries his best to keep his feelings to himself.

Hope was also your "typical" adolescent that grew up in a place that lacked any sort of physical conflict or warfare. He didn't really know how the world worked, given his age, and so he tended to either hide behind others, clinging to them for support (namely Vanille and Lightning) or he would rather run from a battle. He also tended to run from his problems as well, especially ones that he knew he couldn't change, like when his mother was killed during the Purge. He blamed Snow despite knowing that it really wasn't Snow's fault his mother died, although he did have a slight hand in it.

It was Vanille who provided the emotional support for Hope, in the beginning, helping him try and deal with the horrors he was facing, such as being hunted down like an animal because he was unwillingly turned into a l'Cie, specifically by a Pulse fal'Cie. This meant he was an enemy of Cocoon and he was viewed by the Cocoon residents with horror and terror. But it was when he chose to follow Lightning, viewing her as a sort of surrogate older sibling/mother figure, that he began to grow as an individual. He matured and learned to deal with his emotions better and he also becomes an efficient fighter, able to take care of himself or hold off until his friends arrived. He opened up more, taking comfort in the new friends he has made in the other l'Cie despite how different they were from each other. All of them were older than him, all of them essentially adults. But he became just as essential as the rest of them. He learned to not be so angry at Snow for what happened to his mother, soon regarding him like the goofy older brother. Fang was very much like an older sister to him, for perhaps the same reasons Lightning was as well. Sazh was easily the resident dad of the group, something Hope needed since he couldn't be with his actual father during his run.

Going to Gran Pulse allowed him to learn to also ask for help when he needed it, as shown when his brand had grown a bit further and he collapsed. He had come to believe he was a burden to the group and had become distressed, but the others showed him that they would never leave him behind. His Eidolon, Alexander, showed up then and he learned to control it. It was here he learned that when they (the l'Cie) have reached their lowest point, the Eidolons reach out to bring them out of that slump, opening them up to change and growth.

Hope is also a smart individual, observant and insightful. He sees the situations as they happen and decides what to do for their next step, such as taking the plane to Pulse when the others weren't sure they should go down there or, again, figuring out just why the Eidolons appear at random times for each of them. It's also from this intuition that he realizes that he can't just rely on others, clinging to them like he had been or want to just go back to his old life. He realizes that he needs to think on his own, act on his own, make his own choices for his future, his fate, and no one else's. It's with this new found maturity that Hope finds it in him to reconcile with his father, allowing them to rekindle their distant relationship. Hope ends up being one of the more positive people in the group by the end of the game, living up to his namesake as he gives hope to others, to push them to keep going and defy their fates as Pulse l'Cie.

Preferred Essence(s): See below.
Looking For: Since Alexander is his Eidolon and is often shown as a gigantic fortress who deals holy damage, I’d like something either from Medieval tales (a protector, king, etc?) or something perhaps from Biblical tales. I dunno if I’d go as far as an angel but something close (unless angels are an option?) I’d say. Alexander’s name is likely from both Alexander the Great (who is not fictional) or from the Gates of Alexander "which were believed to be raised by summoned djinn to protect the Macedonian Empire from those alleged to be the infernal and savage tribe of "Gog and Magog"." according to the wiki. Hope is also essentially a combat medic so maybe some sort of medicinal/doctor character? Maybe not straight up Medicine Man but idk!

There’s so many options and I don’t really want to go for the obvious of picking another Eidolon or having him be hope, so I’m having a hard time narrowing this down.

Appearance: Short boy with silver hair, teal eyes, and a frozen brand (the left one) on his left arm, near his wrist and covered partially by a yellow wrist band. Or here.

Abilities: TBD with the essence.

Quirks: A lot more protective and willing to help/heal, probably.

Goal: Let him be a kid but also grow and develop further. Make friends!
Extra: I’d like him to keep his brand, it’ll be functionally useless of course. But it’s a huge part of him at this point.
Questions: Nah.

[personal profile] policedefective 2020-09-17 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Pixle | [plurk.com profile] pixle
Character: Goro Akechu bless youi
Canon: Persona 5, the Royal; proooobably in the middle of (SPOILER) Maruki's shitty dream world - Akechi probably
Age: 18
Bio Blurb: Oh my gosh what to say about this guy apart from he's basically Persona Vegeta. Family issues causing him to want the death of his farther, given godly powers and woops boy's all corrupted. Shows up being all nice and polite, actually a very big asshole who thinks he is better than others. Used to love pancakes, ever wants to be near them ever again. Also known as the 2nd coming of the Detective Prince, but partly because he was solving his own crimes. (Wiki)

Personality Blurb: Knowledgeable, polite, friendly, charismatic, strong sense of justice (one could say he has a boner for justice), sociopath, desire to be admired, abandonment issues, needs to be loved, lonely, rub him the right way he will die for you, very jealous of a certain protagonist.

Preferred Essence(s): The Shadow. I thought about Robin Hood at first, but since Ren's stealing everything he loves thinking about it, why not make Akechi prototype Batman (also more hilarious for Ren)
Looking For: Maybe suggestions for other antiheroes. I thought about the Phantom of the Opera but Akechi too vain to want to hide behind half a mask. I did think about Sherlock Holmes or even Moriarty but even then I feel like it's not as 'cool'. Alternate ideas I had: Dr. Jeckle and Mr Hyde, Dracula

Appearance: Appearance image a middle height boy with hazel eyes and brown hair. Always clean and proper.

Abilities: Figuring out which of these powers would be greatest to start with if I go with The Shadow:
- The amazing skills at stealth that make him akin to "a living shadow", to such an extent that rumors evolved that he can "cloud men's minds."
- Perfect sharpshooter
- Amazing at many martial arts
- Complete control over his vocal cords and can throw his voice (producing a chilling laugh that can paralyze opponents) and accurately mimic anyone.
- He has an nearly photographic memory
- Master of disguise and slight of hand.
- Ability to mix chemicals together into deadly concoctions.

Quirks: He's gonna laugh and throw that voice a lot. Probably act like this a lot.

Goal: Maybe people can accept him for who he is. Friends? (it's like trying to friend a wild cat) A proper mentor figure.

Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd | Fire Emblem: Three Houses

[personal profile] azuremoon 2020-09-17 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Mandie | [plurk.com profile] Hylia
Character: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses, end of Azure Moon
Age: 23
Bio Blurb: Wiki

A young king that's experienced a great deal of loss, but that retains (or regains) his tender heart. Though he loses his way, he finds it again with patience and guidance. Violence has shaped his life and Dimitri himself is prone to fits of rage, but he intends to rule without it as best he can. He plans to spend the rest of his life rebuilding and atoning for the things he's done.

Personality Blurb:

Dimitri is a man that feels things deeply, to the point that it drives him mad for a while there. He's a king with a too-soft heart, a workaholic, and a loyal friend that will cling to the people he's close to forever.

Even if they try to kill him.

He's known for his chivalry, even his enemies acknowledge his tendency toward wanting things to be "fair and square". Though his knightly behavior takes a hit for a while when he loses himself, even then he avoids attacking innocents or using devious tactics, preferring to face enemies head-on.

Dimitri devotes himself to people and causes wholly, to the point of obsession. While his focus is typically seen as admirable in his youth since his chosen pursuits are proper for a prince, when he snaps and puts everything he has into vengeance, it's shown how ugly those obsessive tendencies can get. His obsession is capable of overshadowing and sometimes even completely overriding every other aspect of his personality.

At his core, Dimitri is a kind, compassionate man. A character goes so far as to say in the game that his deep compassion is likely what drove him mad.

Preferred Essence(s): Orihime from the Tanabata myth. Becoming obsessed with Hikoboshi (Edelgard) to the point of ditching everything else is his thing.

Looking For: Star-crossed characters, characters with obsessions that lead to Big Trouble, characters that have a sad or bittersweet fate

Appearance: Dimitri is a tall, broad man with a lot of muscle. He has shaggy blond hair that can look stringy or greasy at times (take a bath, Dimitri!) and a single vibrant blue eye. His other eye is absent, with a scar covering most of the eyelid. His whole body is covered in scars from combat, but his notable scars are the large scar across his back he got protecting Dedue and the one on the left side of his chest from Edelgard throwing that dagger at him the last time he tried to reach out.

I'll be shifting his appearance to give him pretty, scar-free weaver princess hands (that are still huge because his hands are big). Hands are a whole thing with Dimitri, so he'll be completely baffled.

Abilities: Since Orihime is the divine weaver I'll probably give him clothes enchanting powers or something. He'll still come equipped with that beastly strength of his, so actually utilizing his new power is going to be difficult for him, alas.

May also give him a supernaturally good sense of direction since Vega (Orihime) is the North Star of the Past and Future. I definitely want to tie some of the star stuff in since his crest is a star.

Quirks: Open to suggestions!

Goal: Expand his world view a little, make some friends, give him some time to emotionally process canon before working himself to the bone.

Edelgard von Hresvelg | Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Player: Batty | [plurk.com profile] battymynameis
Character: Edelgard von Hresvelg
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Post Crimson Flower Route
Age: 24
Bio Blurb: CONTAINS SPOILERS
(Wiki) | Despite being 1 of 11 children, and 9th in line to the throne, Edelgard is the Emperor of a nation. She has suffered the torture of childhood experimentation and out of her siblings is the sole survivor. Upon taking the throne she threw an uprising against her nation’s church and fought to free the nation not only of its caste system, but those who terrorized it from the shadows.

Personality Blurb:
♦ Stubborn → To her core Edelgard is a relentless creature. Stubbornness and defiance helped keep her alive while she was being experimented on during her childhood, so it's how she knows to survive. She pushes on despite drawbacks or unforeseen events in the tides of war, and it seems there are few lines she won't cross to make her dreams a reality. In fact she's so bullheaded that she'd rather accept death in defeat than surrender herself to the mercy of her enemies.
♦ Perfectionist → Edelgard is a perfectionist, and is easily embarrassed if people see her performing lower than what she believes her standards are. The main character at one point sees a portrait she drew of them, but since she's not expertly skilled at drawing Edelgard is quick to hurry Byleth out of her room and refuses to let them see it. This ties in with her extreme work ethic. She focuses so hard at being the best she can be that she leaves little to no time for recreation. In fact she's also been known to harp on others who seem to be, in her opinion, slacking.
♦ Wistfulness → Due to practically being robbed of her childhood and having no time to relax there is a soft spot of her that wishes for days to idle and gorge herself on sweets, and occasionally she will slip away to avoid being "nagged" into doing more work.
♦ Lonely → As a result of moving between the Empire and the Kingdom as a child coupled with all her family being gone Edelgard lives a lonely life. She made one friend in her childhood (aside from her retainer, Hubert) however they were only together for a year, and she doesn't remember him well.

Preferred Essence(s):
Hikoboshi (Altair) from Tanabata Myth
Looking For:
Characters with star crossed fates, leaders of revolution, possibly eagle/phoenix/fire/ram themes

Appearance:
Edelgard is short (158cm/5’2”), has a lot of strength in her arms as an ax wielder, and has a pale look about her. Her body is strained from childhood experimentation, so her brown hair has turned silvery white, her eyes are pale violet, and her skin (though having pinkish undertones) is quite pale as well. Edelgard typically wears modest clothing that covers a majority of her body due to scars from her childhood. Mostly that’s the upper half of her body, and she seems fine showing off battle scars/the lower half.

Abilities:
Canon: Superhuman strength and slightly increased healing speed thanks to her Crests.
Essence (possible): Since Altair (Hikoboshi) is also known as the Eagle Star I was thinking of altering her appearance a little by making her nails into small talons or giving her Hegemon wings to fly or even just keener eyesight.

Quirks: The inclination to herd people...

Goal: For her to make friends and open up a little
Extra: Can I offer you a shitty meme in this trying time?

Player: Jodie | [plurk.com profile] graylights
Character: Zack Fair
Canon: Final Fantasy VII; Thinking very end of Crisis Core if possible?? Otherwise while on his way to Midgar.
Age: Twenty-Three
Bio Blurb: Wiki. A walking spoiler for FF7R honestly.
Zack worked for his world's military monster conglomerate called ShinRa. He's seen Some Shit. Continued to work for them despite all the wild things happening until things went Real Wrong. [ Spoilers: Ends up on a mission where he fights their head general, Sephiroth, after he loses his mind, his friend, Cloud, takes said general out, and then they both end up taken in by their own corporation's science department to be experimented on for four years. Breaks out with friend now in catatonic state. Goes on the run for a year until they end up cornered and he bites it protecting Cloud. ]

Personality Blurb:
From first glance, Zack comes off as the standard shounen protag. Friendly, cheerful, and optimistic. He's quick to pick up conversation with people and can be a huge flirt at times.

Zack's also stubborn, loyal to a fault, and has a knack for putting other people before himself despite how married to his duty he tends to be. All really serve him as strengths as well as weaknesses. In the beginning, he's a lot more naive, impatient, and quick to jump to conclusions, but this has mellowed out some due to all the things he's been through.

To that end, he's a bit more cautious with people now, a little less likely to accept help, and a lot more willing to question motives despite his cheerful, friendly front that might suggest otherwise. In the end, he still loves people, still wants to be a hero, and still will give it his all to do what he thinks is right. But he's definitely a lot more weathered and unlikely to share his personal demons with other people, more prone to helping them with their own.

Basically, he's real bad at taking care of himself.

You can see his full personality section here for more details.

Preferred Essence(s): Zack's kind of a lost hero type, but I could honestly go other routes with him. Like a story about either a fool or definitely someone who's considered to be a monster by other people would be my jam. Those might be more interesting to play with and give him some more demons to handle because who doesn't want more demons for their characters lol

Looking For: Ideas for his essence, his appearance when he uses it, and his abilities. It's been a while since I've brained things like this, but I've been pinged before by games like this. Just my first time considering Zack for it.

Appearance:
This fool. His original flavor. Definitely am cool with some differences to his appearance. He's tall at 6'3", broad, and definitely carries himself with confident stride.

Abilities:
By default, Zack's an enhanced human being/super soldier. Think Captain America. Strength, stamina, speed, endurance, heals faster, that kind of thing. He's proficient with an oversized 80lb. sword and can also use elemental, healing and buffing magic. Though they're tied to his world, so they might just be paper weights in this one.

Quirks: TBD based on essence.

Goal: Make new friends, do new things with Zack, and explore him in a setting that's a little less taxing and horrifying for him than the last one I threw him in.
Extra:

^^ Zack's life.
Questions: n/a Can't think of any off of the top of my head.

Kurt Frank | Identity V

[personal profile] adventum 2020-09-17 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Taku | [plurk.com profile] wailords
Character: Kurt Frank
Canon: Identity V (after arriving in the mansion for the survival game but likely before the actual game takes place)
Age: Unknown in canon, headcanon is that he's late 20s/mid 30s
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: The word that defines Kurt the most is "adventurous", as he has spent his whole life traveling across different countries since he was a child, and as a adult wants to explore and discover new places. He loves reading and telling stories of his own adventures to people, like how he's flown hot air balloons or sailed over the English channel... or so he says. There are some instances where it almost seems like these are things he wants to do more than has actually done, but he's such a cheerful guy and good story teller that it's hard to fault him otherwise, even if such persuasiveness to believe in his tales might be dangerous in the hands of anyone else. Although, he did sign up to join a murder game back home, so you know... his idea of what is a good "adventure" to go on might not fall in line with other people, but hey, he did serve in the army at one point so at least you know he's able to cover your back if need be.

Preferred Essence(s): The one at the top of the list is Gulliver from Gulliver's Travels, as that is his favorite book back home and is one that he carries around with him nearly at all times. It's even what gives him his in-game ability in the murder game to shrink to the size of a Lilliput citizen from the book, and be tiny enough to sneak around to where he needs to go. However, I'm also willing to accept any ideas of other tales involving exploration and the like!
Looking For: Characters who have been on exciting adventures of their own, or even just know a good story to tell if it's one that he somehow hasn't heard of before until now. And of course, people willing to listen to his own tales and go on whatever adventure this place may bring him on.

Appearance: Ta-da... although I should note for the record that he does not actually have buttons for eyes, it's an aesthetic quirk from the IDV canon.

Abilities: With Gulliver's Travels, being able to shrink to the size of 15 cm tall, which is about the size of the people from the country of Lilliput. I'd also like to add the possibility of him, on very rare instances, being able to grow the opposite to almost 72 ft, which is the size of the giants in the second passage of Gulliver's Travels. (Or whatever tall height is able to work well in this game)

Quirks: Possibly being rather fixated on trying to talk to horses or collecting items related to horses sometimes, since that's a thing in the fourth passage of Gulliver's Travels??

Goal: Finally getting to go on a real adventure like he's always wanted and making friends!! And, hopefully, not die like he more than likely did in canon.

Cassandra | Tangled

Player: Shana | [plurk.com profile] antivillain
Character: Cassandra
Canon: Tangled, probably post-series
Age: 24
Bio Blurb: Wiki!

Short version: Her mother, Gothel, abandoned her to go steal a baby and live in a tower, and the captain of the Corona castle guard adopted her. Years later that baby (Rapunzel!) was reclaimed and Cass became her handmaid, guard, and best friend. They had many adventures, Cass was bad at discussing her feelings and Raps was bad at acknowledging negativity and Cass got a magic rock, an evil makeover, and rad powers. She was a supervillain for a while until the sorcerer manipulating her SHOCKINGLY BETRAYED HER then she and Raps made up and took down the evil sorcerer. Cass a little bit died in the process but Rapunzel did an EPIC HEALING SPELL and brought her back because she is not known for letting the people she loves stay dead. Then Cass and her dad went off to have adventures on her own and maybe Cass sometimes came back for a poly relationship with Rapunzel and Eugene??? Canon wasn't entirely clear.

Personality Blurb: The best description of Cassandra I have is that she is a protagonist stuck in a support role. Rapunzel shines so bright as the sun and has magic hair and the ability to do everything and Cass wants to protect her, but Rapunzel doesn't need protecting. She wants to be the hero, but she's got a literal disney princess stealing the spot light. It's hard because she loves Rapunzel a lot, but she's also stifled by her in some ways and she struggles to balance that and to find the right opportunity to live to her full potential. But she's brave and loyal and a good friend under it all, even if she's very bad at talking about her feelings.

Preferred Essence(s): I have two routes I could go. I could go hero and have her be some sort of knight character. Might be hilarious to have her be the prince from the original Rapunzel tale, even, if I feel like being an extra asshole, but anyone out there fighting to save people would be appropriate. I'm leaning that direction, but villain could also be fun since she did play that role for a while in her own story. Some sort of evil queen or witch.

Looking For: Help narrowing it down!! And help with abilities/quirks/etc I'm new and confused!

Appearance: gay!! tough!!

Abilities: Might have some sort of weapon summoning power or strength that increases when used to help others. Also maybe will bring in her owl, Owl, and let him become big enough for her to ride as her noble steed. (She also has a horse. But. OWL.)

Quirks: If someone is in need of help she can't resist going to save them whether or not it's a good idea.

Goal: mostly to let her work through the stuff the end of the show dredged up in her. She's in a better place but also has a lot to atone for. Also maybe get her a girlfriend.

Extra:

Questions: SHRUG THERE ARE MANY. Does the Owl thing make sense?? Would there be a better way to bring him in??

Duo Maxwell | New Mobile Report Gundam Wing | Peter Pan

[personal profile] divine_braid 2020-09-18 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Sailor G | [plurk.com profile] sailorgundam06
Character: Duo Maxwell
Canon: New Mobile Report Gundam Wing (just after Preventer 5, before Frozen Teardrop)
Age: 17/18
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Duo's first bits of canon are in the EW novelization as a nameless orphan running with a gang of street kids. He picks up the name Duo as a result of the gang's leader, who called himself Solo, after a plague nearly killed all the kids in the group. Duo had broken into a hospital and stolen medicine for them, but Solo still succumbed to the illness. When Solo told Duo he would always watch over him, Duo picked his own name to reflect that, "You were Solo, but we'll be Duo."

Duo eventually ends up leading the gang and they're next seen stealing food from street merchants. A priest is nearly trampled by the group, and feels sorry for them, knowing they were all orphans from a war that had happened on their colony before the plague. He finds out where the kids are squatting, and takes them all in to his church. There, Father Maxwell and the head nun, Sister Helen, take care of the children and work to get them adopted into families. Duo keeps getting sent back, and Father Maxwell decides that he will try to get Duo to become a priest. However, another rebellion breaks out around them, and the church is taken over as a base by the rebels, holding the priest, nun, and Duo hostage. Duo escapes, promising to return with the mobile suit the rebels want so that they'll go away and leave the church alone, but, after he steals the suit, he returns to find the church destroyed. Sister Helen is injured, and Duo tries to help her, but he doesn't know how. She dies there, leaving Duo alone once again.

Fast forward a few years, and Duo now known as the sole survivor of the Maxwell Church Tragedy, and the cops joke that he must have made a deal with the devil to survive. He manages to stow away on a salvage vessel that's traveling between space colonies, but, after a few weeks of him evading capture by the ship's crew, they finally catch him. The leader of the group, an old scientist who called himself Professor G, is impressed with Duo's skills and wants to know who the kid is. Duo introduces himself as Duo Maxwell. When G asks if he means likes "Maxwell's demon", as in the scientific meaning, Duo corrects him. "I'm not a demon. I'm the God of Death."

Duo finds out that Professor G is part of a resistance movement working to take out a secret organization infiltrating the Earth Sphere Alliance. The Order of the Zodiac is blamed for being behind the assassination of the colony leader, Heero Yuy, who is an advocate for peace. His death sparked the movement of the rebels, deciding that OZ needed to be eliminated. Five scientists joined together to create the perfect weapon, but they had to split up before they could complete it. On their own, they attempt to recreate it with help from the Barton Foundation, a powerful company also looking to take out OZ, but for their own nefarious purposes. They want to carry out a mission called Operation Meteor in which they plan to drop a space colony on Earth, creating a nuclear winter. In its wake, the five mobile suits being created by these scientists would descend to Earth and take over. Deciding he wanted no part in it, Duo attempts to destroy the mobile suit that G is creating. G convinces him to steal it instead, go to Earth ahead of the colony drop, and take out OZ before the Barton Foundation can have its way.

Commence the main storyline. That's in the wiki. There are several manga that are dated to take place in the year between the end of the series and the OVA.

The five pilots attempt to figure out where they now stand in this new world that they've helped create. Duo drifts. Mostly, he does salvage work, continuing to meet up with G's old group, The Sweepers, and with the other pilots, but never quite settling down. He keeps getting in trouble and having to disappear for weeks at a time. He gets tangled up in several situations (through four different manga side-stories), and comes to the conclusion that, because his identity as a Gundam pilot isn't secret, he can't keep Deathscythe. It's too dangerous, and too many people want it for various reasons, both good and bad. So, after talking it over with the other four pilots, they gather the Gundams and agree to send them into the sun... all but one. Wufei protests and keeps his Gundam instead.

This is where the plot of the OVA, Endless Waltz, fits in. That's also in the wiki. Following that is one small manga called "Preventer 5", which is below.

Not quite a year later, as several high ranking Earth Sphere officials gather to celebrate Relena's birthday, the party comes under siege by a group calling themselves Epyon de Telos. The Preventers gather together the five former Gundam pilots again to help with the hostage situation of most of the government's top leaders. The group gather together and create a plan to get inside. Duo agrees to go in disguised as a member of this new group and pretend to shoot Wufei with blanks, hoping that this action would get him sent down into where the officials are being held. Then, being on the inside, he could coordinate with Quatre in getting the hostages out of harm's way while Wufei, Heero, Trowa, along with the other Preventers, would then engage the hostage takers and take them out.

(This manga basically leaves off here, having illustrated and described the entire plan... so one is left to think it either worked and that was the story, or that the manga was potentially left unfinished... as production, storytelling, and schedules were unfortunately a mess with this entire series.

I don't play with the Frozen Teardrop canon... it takes place in Duo's future anyway, and reveals some weird plot points that really don't affect my character in any sort of retconned way, so I just play him from a canon point that's before it takes place.)

Personality Blurb:

Duo lives up to his name. He blows hot and cold, depending on the situation. Often times, he presents himself as a carefree spirit, quick with a smile and a darkly humored joke. He comes across as someone who sees what he's doing as a game. However, that's completely not true. Duo sees his life as anything but a game. Duo has severe survivor's guilt. His earliest memories are of being on his own, knowing that his parents are dead. He saw his best friend die from an illness that he himself never contracted. He saw the two people who were the only ones he knew as parental figures killed in a rebel strike. Yet, he still lives. This damages him greatly, and leaves him with a sense of his life only being a fluke... that he's only alive because either he really is the God of Death, or he's just managed to get by on sheer dumb luck. Duo has it hard, yet he somehow always manages to survive, and that takes a toll on the teenager's psyche. Duo has abandonment issues. Anyone who gets too close to him dies, so he keeps everyone at arm's length. If he doesn't get close, doesn't get attached, then either they won't die or it won't hurt as much when they finally do. Duo acts like an open book. He's talkative, outgoing, and even says he doesn't lie. But he often twists the truth, hiding behind a cheerful mask. When it comes down to it, Duo takes life very seriously... except for his own. He throws himself in harm's way because someone has to do it and it might as well be him. In his head, he's supposed to be dead three times over, so why not him doing the dirty work? When it counts, Duo can be stealthy and sneaky for infiltration. And, while he might get caught in battle because he's not really an amazing soldier, he's good at breaking out once he's in. There isn't a lock he can't pick or a security code he can't hack. He tends to point this out a lot, acting a bit cocky at times, but he's confident in what he knows how to do, and with good reason.

That's not to say that Duo doesn't have a serious side. When it all boils down, Duo knows what he's gotten himself involved in. He takes it very seriously. He follows the news, he stays on top of information, he's careful. For all the joking and loud behavior, childish acts, and crazy stunts, Duo's not a fool. He's just careless when it comes to himself.

Preferred Essence(s): Peter Pan

Appearance: Duo has long chestnut hair that ends just below his butt. It's thick and straight, but he usually keeps it back in a braid, which gives it an acquired wave. He has overgrown bangs that hang down in front of his face and cobalt blue eyes (deep blue, almost violet). Duo leans towards the bad boy look when left to his own devices... motorcycle jacket, leather pants.

As Peter Pan, the character is described as wearing essentially nothing but foliage, and that would be hilarious, but I kind of want to give him a bit more than a slightly more dressed Tarzan look. Possibly some ragged looking clothing that's been repaired with foliage to give him that runaway/wild child look. Not Disney animation style, but also more than just leaves and vines.

Abilities:

As Peter Pan, Duo would eventually develop the ability to fly. It would be awkward for him at first, but it's a trademark of the character. I also would love for him to have the ability to either summon a fairy spirit for a set amount of time and possibly do some sort of shadow magic, like create a shadow clone of himself or something.

Quirks:

Duo will likely develop the desire to be a prankster. Peter Pan is rather "untamed" in a way because of his somewhat wild life and lack of contact with general civilization throughout his story and this would likely ramp up Duo's more playful aspects of his personality. Duo's not much of a prankster, per se, more of a joker in canon, but adding this prankster side would definitely be something coming from his aspect.

Goal: Just to have fun, I guess? LOL... and widen my own participation by adding a second character.

Maron Kusakabe | Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne

[personal profile] windofgod 2020-09-18 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Raini | [plurk.com profile] infel
Character: Maron Kusakabe
Canon: Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, prrrrobably after Fin reveals herself as working for (spoiler).
Age: 16
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: A happy go lucky, outgoing rhythmic gymnast who, despite all appearances, is afraid to open up to people and afraid to love people. Otherwise she's friendly, willing to help her friends, but talking to people one on one and confiding in them is Hard. Please don't make her do that (or do, because she needs to learn, damn it.)

She's also the reincarnation of Jeanne d'Arc, who was a reincarnation of someone else that's a huge spoiler. :)

Preferred Essence(s): Astraea, the Celestial Virgin but if anyone else has suggestions, I'm open to them! Astraea ticks the boxes of being a badass but also the pure virgin - as in the manga (and I think somewhere in the anime) it's mentioned that Maron's abilities ties into her being a virgin, since Jeanne was one when she was burned at the stake. Losing that would mean no more powers.

Looking For: If there's more suggestions, anything that ticks a box of badass but someone who has a limitless well of love bottled up.

Appearance: If she's able to turn into Jeanne, her magical girl uniform may change to something more... Greek Goddess-like! Otherwise open to ideas on this one too, but otherwise, here is a good visual of the two. Jeanne on the left, Maron on the right. There's also a tumblr with a big ol' tag full of art for her, both anime and manga!

Abilities: Her wiki covers her abilities, but for ease:

"As Maron, she boasts of incredible flexibility and agility due to the fact that she is on her schools rythmic gymnastics teams.

She is easily able to hop and climb over fences as well as run quickly when the time comes. She is talented at baton twirling, as shown in her gymnastics competition. As Jeanne, she boasts of more abilities, as well as enchanced flexibility and agility.

As well as this, she also possesses several very useful items.
1st Rosary: This rosary enabled her to become Jeanne by infusing it with Finn's magic. Following this, she transforms into Jeanne.

2nd Rosary: After Finn leaves, Maron recieves her second rosary in which she can become Jeanne on her own without Finn's help.

Rythmic Gymnastics Ribbon: Not the one Maron uses at school, but the weapon she uses after she recieves her second rosary. In order to defeat demons, she unleases the ribbon and ties up the enemy and by saying "Checkmate!" she is able to defeat them.

Angel's Feather: This is Maron's protection. This is what Maron's 2nd rosary originally was. By using this, Maron was able to transform the feather into the rosary to become Jeanne.

Chess Pieces: Maron uses these to seal away the demons when Finn was still with her. By collecting these, she was able to safely seal away the Devil's power."

As I'm not taking her from the anime (though I have anime icons I think, I don't remember it's been so long oh god) I don't have her anime-only abilities here.

Quirks: Uhhh I can't think of any, but hey, if there's any suggestions I am Here for them.

Goal: I love playing Maron in a setting where she can gain new friends and maybe come out of her distrust of FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS, so that's what I'm hoping for mainly, here.

Character: Samus Aran
Canon: Metroid (post-Fusion)
Age: early 30s
Bio Blurb: Orphaned at an early age after Space Pirates murdered her parents. Raised by an alien bird-people called the Chozo. Chozo gifted her with a powered suit of armor that she can magical girl on and off and infused their DNA with her so she would become a mighty space warrior. Samus enlists in the Galactic Federation to do some good in the universe but figured out pretty quickly that she hates rules and regulations and sets off on her own to become a Bounty Hunter where she can do good thwarting bad dudes and monster aliens, but also do a lot of property damage. Like a lot. She's pretty legendary for her exploits. (wiki)

Personality Blurb: fiercely independent, typically very serious and introspective, brooding, cold/curt, lonely, stubborn, socially awkward, reckless, vigilante, secretly kind, compassionate, protective, self-sacrificial. Textbook Byronic Hero with a dash of ice queen or tsundere.

Preferred Essence(s): a Phoenix or a Roc, or a mythical dragon. Stuff that caught my eye on the unclaimed list; Amaterasu, Captain Ahab, and hahaha Fafnir.
Looking For: would love suggestions for any kind of mythical bird since she'd love that, or mythical dragon since she'd hate that. Warrior Types of folklore also would be fitting.

Appearance: blehp bloop Smash Bros sadly still has the best visual refs.

Abilities: for my own sanity I'm going to classify the Power Suit as a special or "magical" ability so she wouldn't come with it. Out of the suit Samus is genetically enhanced and trained since she was a child to be a warrior so she is very good at the punching and the kicking and the general athletics.

Quirks: Not a fan of cold temperatures. Bad with pop-culture.

Goal: BAD AT MAKING FRIENDS wait that's my other bounty hunter character. Except Samus is also bad at making friends so maybe making some friends and learning to open up a little would be great. She gets along good with other former military/mercenary/bounty hunter/soldier types, kids, cute animal characters, and folks with justice boners. Otherwise doing her hero thing and helping to Save Worlds is what she do. With additional property damage.

Nanu | Pokemon

[personal profile] kahunanu 2020-09-18 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
since I'm having difficulty deciding...

Player: Kat | [plurk.com profile] uzione
Character: Nanu
Canon: Pokemon Sun/Moon (games)
Age: 50s?
Bio Blurb: Once upon a time Nanu was an International Policeman who dealt with criminals and missions involving mysterious monsters who would sometimes fall out of a literal hole the sky. Not the usual monsters you can stuff in plastic balls. Someone he was responsible for while dealing with said sky hole monsters died, probably very gruesomely! He probably got PTSD from it and said "time to retire". So he did to an island. Except he's still a cop there and was made an Island Kahuna by a floating bull head with no legs so he's still responsible for people and deals with monsters falling out of sky holes anyway. He just wanted to retire. (wiki)

Personality Blurb: grumpy burnt out bad cop, apathetic, lazy asshole, not nice, but also pretty nice, a little weird, definitely morbid, self-depreciative bordering on self-destructive, avoids superficial responsibility but is reliable and dutiful when it matters, loves cats and naps and naps with his cats and cat naps

Preferred Essence(s): Nekomata, feel most strong about that but runner ups include Cheshire Cat and less feline and more divine Dante Alighieri (Dante's Inferno... probably would use the video game more for inspiration) Stuff that caught my eye on the unclaimed list; Big Bad Wolf, Puss in Boots.

Looking For: Cats are obvious but also Nanu is a Dark Type trainer with a dark sense of humor so anti-heroes, villains, corrupted folk heroes, things like that suit him well. Open to completely left-field suggestions too.

Appearance: uncle cat man

Abilities: Nanu is a humany human with no inherent special abilities. He was the Pokemon Equivalent of an international investigator for a while and described as an "elite officer", and a superior to the other Interpol characters in the game before becoming a cop in Alola. He has some Pokemon but I'd defer to bringing in only Persian + Darkinium Z to start since it's his closest companion.

Quirks: did I mention he has like a dozen Meowths and sleeps on a couch like an adult. Also really enjoys sushi.

Goal: Going with a cat-themed essence would certainly give him stuff to chew on/a new perspective in so far as his relationship with them and with Pokemon in general. If something more like Dante then YEAH Nanu's still clearly very bitter about Interpol and on how/why the Faller died (spoilers) and carries that burden, not unlike how Dante carries his many burdens. Nanu has definitely not hit all the major sins in his life but he can account for a few at least.

As far as CR goals, anything! Fellow apathetic grumps to commiserate with. Children or energetic young types to bother him or babysit or that he can tease or keep him wrapped around their fingers. People who give him responsibilities so he can disappoint them. Hotheads he can tease and rile up and or sort of mentor. Inexperienced punks he can put in their places. Co-workers he can grow to respect and feel protective about. Someone who is willing to call him out on his bullshit and get under his skin. ...cats. cats? All the cats.

[personal profile] la_sombra 2020-09-18 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT LINE: CHARACTER | CANON

Player: Scout | [plurk.com profile] wingedbeastie
Character: Olivia "Sombra" Colomar
Canon: Overwatch (Post-Recall)
Age: 30
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Once upon a time there was A Girl, who was orphaned by The War between Humans and the Omnics - machines that had been created and gained sentience when no one was looking, apparently. She grew up on the streets and learned very quickly that presented with a smile and charming words, people paid attention to little else. So the The Girl learned - how to hack machines and information networks, how to say the right thing to someone (or the wrong thing, correctly). She became an asset to the gang who ran the bad parts of her hometown - 'Los Muertos'. With her talents they became a force to be reckoned with. Until one day, The Girl ended up somewhere she shouldn't have been.

She'd stumbled on a conspiracy and on that day, the The Girl disappeared and Sombra emerged. With a neural upgrade and the world at her literal fingertips, Sombra led hacker collectives and began destroying the chokehold of corporations and corruption alike. Every time she made sure that she had the upper hand and when the shadow organization Talon approached her for recruitment, Sombra jumped at the opportunity to have an employer with infinite pockets. Despite being beholden to powerful people, Sombra's work - the things she remains invested in are still unknown.

Personality Blurb:
Orphaned during the Omnic Crisis after all, one of thousands struck by such tragedy -Sombra taught herself to hack and began to unravel the ‘how’ and ‘why’ people and power worked the way that they did. Sombra’s curiosity was honed sharply in the face of adversity and Los Muertos took her in, hungry for any sort of edge in their revolution. They looked out for her and in return she gave them the information she discovered while hacking and with this protection she grew bolder. Sombra went unchallenged for most of her early life, supporting high ambitions and fostering a somewhat high opinion of herself that never quite left.

Her opportunism and ease with manipulation would suggest coldness, but she is actually rather playful for someone capable of murder and blackmail. It makes things easier - it’s simpler for Sombra to lead people to the conclusion she wants them to go to than brutishly force them. However, for all of her talent at being where no one wants her and knowing what no one should, Sombra has a rather poor sense of interpersonal timing. Being somewhat reclusive as a hacker, her hyperfocus on inputs and outputs tends to make her resulting relationships shallow by comparison to her peers. Her lack of overall fear leads her to goad people she shouldn’t, like Reaper and Widowmaker, her colleagues in Talon.

Preferred Essence(s): I'm currently torn between two:
-The Youth Who Went Forward To Learn Fear: Sombra is confident to a fault and there is a case to make that, her self-preservation is directly proportional to how close she is to getting something she wants. She plays the long game but makes big, brash looking moves and plays both sides against the middle.

-Tlazolteotl (Aztec goddess of filth, purification, fertility and childbirth.): If you have a secret, Sombra will find it, especially if you do not want anyone to find out what's going on. She blackmails people with glee and enjoys unnerving or at the bare minimum, annoying her associates. Given Sombra's attitude and backstory, it's quite easy to give her an 'anti-hero' slant and this would lean her even harder in that direction.

Looking For: I want to stay away from any essences that have innate romantic connection, and I'm really open to anything that leans in on the reckless/fearless/trickster aspects she already has.

Appearance: Sombra is a relatively slight 30 year old evil organization operative/super-hacker. Dark olive skin, a real epic undercut and an aesthetic best described as cyberpunk raver.

If I go to Tlazolteotl, she might develop a more openly sexy edge to the aesthetic. Maybe a more blue-collar edge if I if I go Fearless Youth.

Abilities:
The Fearless Youth and Tlazolteotl both operate most powerfully using social constructs. I think it would be fun to play with the visuals - Tlazolteotl always leaves footprints, but she also inspires people to do better, usually out of guilt. Fearless Youth is harder to come up with abilities for.

Quirks: Sombra will likely become more of a pain in the ass, regardless of the essence, its more a question of being more manipulative/blackmail-y or obtuse, like if she doesn't have a reason to to believe something will affect her, it won't.

Goal: I want to see Sombra deal people who think she has some good in her, or folks who meet her with equally mercenary/self-serving tendecn
Extra: I missed playing Sombra so I'm excited.

Character: James "Logan" Howlett aka: Wolverine
Canon: Wolverine and the X-Men (2009 cartoon) / S01E26 / Post Series
Age: Apparent Age: 40’s / Actual Age: 177 (Birth year: 1832, current year 2009)
Bio Blurb:
Logan is a mutant in a world that hates mutants. He has a healing factor and sharp razor claws that come out of his hands. He's a short to average sized man, a bit furry looking and has a bad attitude, but he's trying. In this series he's trying to rebuild the school, reunite the X-men, save Rogue and find Professor X and save the future. There is a lot going on.

A mysterious explosion destroys the Xavier School and disrupts the X-Men. Professor X appeared dead, as did Jean. A year later Logan is on the run as Anti-mutant forces are out to force Mutants to be registered or locked up, for the safety of human kind. He starts to try and find the former X-Men to rebuild. Some are easy to find and ready rejoin the fight, while others are scattered across the world and a bit less willing.

(optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb:
Logan is a good man who cares about people, a much as he tries not to, or at least try to look like he doesn't. He has a lot riding on his shoulders. He's a bit of a grouch and hard ass but he has a soft heart, especially for kids and fellow mutants. As much as he might appear to not want to do the things he has to do, if it will protect others he's willing to do anything.

He's a leader, though reluctant. He believes in Charles's cause to save fellow mutants. He gets frustrated that he can't be like Charles, who could help so many mutant kids while he feels like he's not as worthy. But he tries his best.

Preferred Essence(s): The Cowardly Lion of the Wizard of Oz.
I like the idea of him having something that's completely opposite of what he is, as he's far from cowardly.

Other thought The Scarecrow of the Wizard of Oz. Mostly because of the Brains problem. I wouldn't mind messing with his head some more. Memory problems run abundant with Logan.

In another thought, The Tinman would be interesting. The lack of heart and all would also be the opposite of Logan, as he really does have a big heart.

Thoughts on any of these would be great.

Looking For: If you can't tell, I'm wanting to with with The Wizard of Oz the most. Other animal type or memory issue fables or stories would be welcome, but I'm really leaning to Oz, thanks!

Appearance: Logan is a short slightly fizzy man with hair that looks a bit like ears of a Wolverine. He's not the tallest man, but he's burly and strong. He has long sword like claws that come out of his knuckles, and can heal any burns or cuts with ease. He tends to scowl a lot too, but has been known to smile.

The Cowardly Lion: If I go this route I was thinking he might end up like Victor Creed and get a bit more shaggier like a mane or something. Let his nails grow into claws. He would hate it. He's at least have a long thing tail mot of the time, which will annoy him.

The Scarecrow: I'm thinking of taking his Healing Factor away, but a trait I was thinking with this would be to be able to put himself together again only when accessing this essence. Like going to straw instead of blood. Like Ragdoll Sally, easy to put parts together again. If he went into a scarecrow form he's lose his higher level of brain function and thinking however.

The Tinman: If I went with this he'd sometimes appear to be metal, both inside and out. His skeleton is already adamantium, so maybe his skin could be too. Anytime he goes into a metal form though he'd lose his heart. Be heartless and care less for things.

Abilities:
Instantaneous Regeneration:
Also known as his Healing Factor. Depending on how severe the wound is he can heal within seconds or hours. Stripped down to his bones, he can still regenerate back to normal health. He can be killed, but given time his system will regenerate and bring him back to life. Because of the Adamantium grafted to his bones this helps with his indestructibility.

Reduced Aging Process:
Because of his healing factor it seems he’s slowed in the aging process as well. There is a possibility that he has stopped aging, or slowed to a point that it’s almost not noticeable. Later we find that he is aging but it’s the metal in his body that is making him sick. At that point in his life he seems to age more aggressively, like time has caught up to him a bit more.

Poison Resistance:
High tolerance to poisons and tranquilizers, drugs and alcohols. This isn’t to say he can’t be affected by them, but it takes a lot more to do anything at all, and poisons that generally kill a person might just make him sick. A single tranquilizer might take out a normal person but Wolverine simply gets a bit groggy and shrugs it off. He drinks alcohol by the bottle to feel much of anything but never gets to a ‘drunk’ status.

Retractable Bone Claws:
His natural born mutant power was to grow retractable bone claws that would regenerate if broken. This and his healing factor are his genetic mutation. Three spare sharp bones shoot from between the four knuckle joints, extending well past his hand. If broken off they will regenerate. These bones retract back into his arm.

Adamantium Skeleton:
The Weapon X Program grafted Adamantium to his bones making him indestructible. The bone claws are now covered in perfect sharp blades, still three of which shoot out of his knuckles. His entire bone structure is covered in this metal, leaving him indestructible BUT also vulnerable to opponents with magnetically aligned powers or metal control powers. He has control over how fast or slow he can draw his claws out, as well as how many at once.

Superhuman Advances:
Strength, Speed, Endurance, Reflexes, Agility, Senses, Weather adaption.
Unlike normal humans his mutant DNA that helps his healing factor also assists in his health, age and general abilities. He can run faster, hit harder, and lift large things with ease. He has high stamina and endurance, a high resistance to different elements and temperatures as well as enhanced senses. Taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight are all high above most other humans. Like an animal he can track things on the wind. His senses enable him to ‘feel’ danger in the air, much like an animal.

Quirks:
The Cowardly Lion: Fear of small animals. Like... literally jumping back with a yelp around a kitten or a puppy. Uncontrolled shaking of his knees around a rat. Etc.

The Scarecrow: When he takes a Scarecrow form he gets a bit thoughtless, distracted and brainless.

The Tinman: When it takes a metal man form, he loses his heart and ability to care.

Goal: I'd just like to have some fun in the setting and having him bond with other people. I'm like to find him people who need help, protection, or just friends.
Extra: I'm open to other ideas or thoughts for Logan.
Questions: I just want some thoughts on what others think and feel.

Jude Mathis | Tales of Xillia

[personal profile] recoveryring 2020-09-19 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Amanda | [plurk.com profile] mossflowered
Character: Jude Mathis
Canon: Tales of Xillia, post-game (before ToX2)
Age: 15
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.) A medical student in training who gets caught up (willingly, too) in the adventures of one Milla Maxwell that eventually leads to not only the revelation of another world besides their own, but that their world is in jeopardy due to the other world and eventually must find a way to save both worlds because despite his pacifism, he also wants to punch god in the face (and he does) for leading their worlds to this predicament in the first place. MASSIVELY simplified, as this is a JRPG so there's a lot more to it, but that's as TL;DR as I can put it lol.

Personality Blurb: Did I mention that Jude is a pacifist who also knows how to punch really well? Because it's true. He is aware of the near hypocrisy this can bring, but to be fair, he learned to fight as self-defense because he was bullied by the other children when he was little. He's a soft-spoken, smart, and impulsive person too. He starts out aimless and not at all knowing what he really wants to do in life, he trained as a doctor mostly because that's what his parents did and he does have a genuine desire to help others. He doesn't regret going to medical school at all. It's also during the course of the game that he becomes braver and learns more about himself and what he wants to do in life. Despite how impulsive he can be (something Alvin frequently comments on because he's always sticking his nose in other people's businesses and whatnot), he is actually fairly calm and composed most of the time. He's pretty mature for his age, although the fact that he is still only fifteen does show itself from time to time, his crush on Milla and not even denying how attractive Presa is along with a naivete that comes not from ignorance but a general inexperience with places and people. And, of course, he is a med student. An honor student, no less. He's smart to an almost freakish degree and highly observant to boot (it even comes with a sound effect).

Preferred Essence(s): Asclepius
Looking For: I'm open to any other characters known for their healing, medicine, etc! Doesn't have to be deities either.

Appearance: Here. He's 5'4", with callouses and scars on his knuckles due to his frequent fighting during his journey, with short brown hair and amber eyes.

Abilities: He knows martial arts, so aside from any magical aspects of it being nerfed, he'll still know where to hit where it hurts lol Otherwise, I'd like to keep his healing abilities as Asclepius is known for his healing prowess. No raising the dead though, that's OP. Since his magic in the game comes from his mana lobe (a section of the brain that allows for Spirit Artes and thus, healing magic) it can be changed to come from his staff as a focus instead? He can talk to snakes.

Quirks: Stronger desire to heal and help people. Likes snakes.

Goal: Honestly, this is my first go at him, so I definitely want to get comfortable with him while also having fun with him.

Georgia Mason | Newsflesh

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-19 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Shana | [plurk.com profile] antivillain
Character: Georgia Mason
Canon: Newsflesh, prooobably book 1 (Feed), but I'm indecisive
Age: 22
Bio Blurb: (cw: adopted sibling incest, zombie plague that's way too accurate) Haaaa it must be nice having canons with wikis. Georgia and her brother Shaun were orphans of the zombie Rising that destroyed a third of the world's population and changed the world forever... but didn't end it. They grew up in a world where everything was constantly sanitized and people feared gathering in large crowds and this book came out in 2010 it wasn't meant to be this prescient.

ANYWAY Shaun and George were adopted by Stacy and Michael Mason, two of the earliest bloggers of the apocalypse. They grew up in a house that cared about ratings above all else and could only count on love from their parents when there were cameras to monetize it. They only had each other for unconditional love, and that led to them growing up extremely codependent. They were each others' best friend and, eventually, romantic partners. That part would not have played well for their parents' cameras.

They got into the blogging business too, with Georgia as the intrepid newsie, digging up facts and exposing secrets, and Shaun as an Irwin, poking zombies for fun and profit. They and their friend Buffy (a fictional, bringing poetry and porn to the people to distract them from the terrible status of the world) got a job following a presidential candidate during his run for office. It was meant to be the gig that made their careers. And it did. It's just that they happened to stumble on a massive government conspiracy that killed Buffy and, eventually, killed Georgia as well. She got the truth out before she died, though, and told the world to rise up while they could.

Personality Blurb: Obsessed with the truth. Georgia carries a gun around all the time but she won't use it if she can talk her way out of something. Her most important weapon is the truth, and she knows how to find it and how to use it. She's unerringly loyal to those she cares about but bad at expressing it. She's bad at expressing most emotions that aren't irritation, though a lot of that is intentional. Georgia cares very, very deeply about everything, and that's a big part of why she works so damn hard to bring the truth to light. She truly believes her words with the strength of the truth backing them up can change the world.

Preferred Essence(s): danananananananananananananana BATMAN. Probably. Since the mods said it was viable and I LOVE THE IDEA. Especially because while she and Batman share some qualities (dedication to JUSTICE, extreme intelligence) she is not in general a fan of vigilantes and even less a fan of keeping your identity (OR ANYTHING ELSE) a secret.

Looking For: ideas of where to go/possibly other ideas?? Some essence of a character obsessed with truth be good too

Appearance: Short dark brown hair, sunglasses, a scowl. She tends to dress as practically as possible and might be allergic to color. She does tend to wear some jewelry which is only surprising if you don't realize they all have hidden cameras and microphones in them.

Abilities: Mostly, begrudgingly, her physical abilities are going to get a massive boost and she'll suddenly be amazing at parkour.

Quirks: A tendency to find herself brooding on the nearest rooftop if she's not paying attention.

Goal: she is such a great character to dig into any mysteries because she REALLY WANTS TO KNOW.

Player: Nea | [plurk.com profile] baranohanabira
Character: Usagi Tsukino
Canon: Sailor Moon (manga, post StarS events but before things like her wedding etc)
Age: 16
Bio Blurb: plot summary

At first Usagi Tsukino is a normal, lazy 14-year-old school girl, who loves sleeping, is bad at school and happens to be a huge crybaby... Then one day, a mysterious cat appears and changes her life by giving her a gift, that turns her into a magical girl! Then she and her new magical girl friends also find out, that she happens to be the reincarnation of Moon princess Serenity.

And since then her magical girl life has been a lot of suffering with all kinds of different enemies coming to fight them and killing them and kidnapping them and it really has been a lot in a very short time. But there have been lots of good things too including meeting her future daughter, getting to know about her own future in general and she gets to do all of this with her new best friends and the love of her life, who also have their magical secrets. It's fine, let the enemies march in, they can deal with whatever gets thrown at them!

But that's really all a secret magical life as not even her parents and little brother know about Usagi being anything else than a normal girl.

Personality Blurb: Cheerful and friendly sunshine girl, who makes friends easily and talks a lot. She's very energetic and lively, reacts to things easily and easily approaches anyone with a goal to be friends with everyone. Former crybaby, nowadays doesn't cry so easily and she's all about having fun and good times with people. Usagi loves everyone! She can be the most adorable big sister figure, loyal friend and devoted fiancée, but she's also a teeanger, who gets jealous and bickers a lot sometimes. She loves eating, she loves food in general. Are you lonely? Her senses will be tingling towards you to change that. What's personal space? It's like she's never even heard of that most of the time.

Downside of all that cheerfulness is how easily she can pretend to be cheerful even during the worst times of her life. This girl has seen A LOT during her super secret magical girl years; friends dying, the love of her life dying, everyone dying much more than once - it's okay, they can just be reborn/revived again and again. She's not the type to give up, she'll fight to the end bravely and she'll always be there for her friends, Mamoru and anyone else.

Preferred Essence(s): One thought thrown at me was Goldilocks and that's really cute but I don't know yet, open to ideas!
Looking For: uh, anything, kind of, mostly my thoughts went into directions like Aphrodite or some other goddess from some mythology (she's all about love and hope and happy endings), someone else with moon(light) based powers or a (Disney) princess?? But open to any ideas, whatever comes to mind from those things or anything else that comes to mind from this girl, help??? The rabbit of the Moon would just be cheating

Appearance: Here though that pic doesn't do justice for her amazing hair... 150cm (4'11"), blue eyes, blond hair, slim body. Loves girly and pink fashion style, wears skirts and dresses and all cute shirts / jackets / things along with them.

Abilities: Since she'll be losing all of her magical girl abilities, looking to recreate similar things possibly! Her canon skills include transforming into her past life sometimes but mostly transforming into a magical girl, who has skills like flying, powerful moonbeam attacks to turn enemies into dust, healing and reviving, summoning her weapon and recreating that and her wings when enemies break them. And she happens to have the most powerful crystal of her world, it has limitless powers, that depend on whatever Usagi wants to do with it. So anything from protecting people to healing them to recreating / reviving / rebuilding ... anything. (Her crystal will stay home I guess but take a shot anytime, when Usagi tries to turn into Sailor Moon here! XD)

So, looking for things like flying, healing, powers based on things like (moon)light, hope and love. Doesn't have to be all of them but magical girl getting some kind of other magical skills here would be great! She has a cute staff in canon, maybe she'll learn to summon a cute weapon here too, who knows.

Quirks: If she'd be Goldilocks -- did you leave your door open, while you went out? Sorry, you may find one moon rabbit in your home, where she has tried at least three different foods and other things before she's decided to possibly sleep on your bed. Unless you come home while she's still busy with food, sorry for raiding your home for that but she got hungry while she was out.

If it's something else, open to any ideas for these too!

Goal: Having fun, making new friends because she's great at that, helping/saving worlds without her crystal's powers magically doing all the work.
Extra: Never lived alone, she's still the girl, who walks home yelling "I'm home! I'm hungry! What's for dinner?!" and being alone doesn't suit her well anyway.... So idek, if she'll appear here, expect troubles with that or trying to find any solutions to that.
Questions: ...She'll still be as incredible at eating as ever, so hope you're ready for that?
