Workshop #6: September 2020—

§ instructions.

Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own. REMINDER: We are NOT a memloss or AU game! The only things that are being altered are the character's abilities and maybe gain a small personality quirk, but that's all.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.
   
   
2. Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.
   
   
3. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.
   
   
4. The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.
   
   
5. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
   
   
6. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
   
   
7. Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.
   
   
8. Public Registration is closed until further notice, but anyone with an invite and current players can register at any time.

If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?

Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.

Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: On the surface he seems like a quiet meek guy and he can be quite nice, but he's much more than that. He likes to be dramatic and extra, and troll others sometimes to get a reaction out of them. He has a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid to stand up for others, even if it gets him into trouble.

Preferred Essence(s): Loki or Robin Hood or any other suggestions
Looking For: A trickster sort of character that more morally gray but not necessarily evil, though I can work with evil if needed.

Appearance: In canon he's usually 5'9'' but if he becomes Loki, he may increase in height a bit (maybe 5'11'' or 6'0''? I'm not sure how much taller he should be.) Other than that, he has fluffy curly black hair and sharp grey eyes with black glasses. He also usually wears his school's uniform but not all the time.

If it's Robin Hood instead, he'll likely wear a green outfit and hat.

Abilities: If he's Loki, he'll have the ability to shapeshift into a girl or a horse. If it's Robin Hood, he'll have near perfect ability with a bow and arrow.

Quirks: If Loki, be more prone to mischief than normal but that's about it. Or if it's Robin Hood, feel the urge to steal from the rich to give to the poor, especially royalty.

Goal: Have fun with the character mostly. Any possible shippy shenanigans would be a neat plus but I'm not gonna force it.

You don't know how much I've been looking forward to possible Joker and Dojima CR. I also play Junpei Iori from P3P As well!

Loki is pretty thematically appropriate considering, though I also really like Robin Hood too...

One neat thing we can do with our essences is pull on other series iterations of those essences, not just the source material. So you could have fun with robin hood and pull from the Disney version or Fate Grand Order/Extra with Robin Hood and such. Like with FGO Robin powers he could get really good at traps and poison attacks, for example :D

Yes it would be quite awkward and hilarious, and not just the fact that he's got a criminal record. If he ends up with Robin Hood, he'll try not to steal from Dojima keyword being try. And CR with Junpei would be neat too.

That and either one would be super ironic in this case 'cause Akechi.

Ren would look cool with Marvel!Loki's helmet, and Disney!Robin Hood would be cute too. Gosh, decisions decisions...

No worries, it's fine. There's time to figure stuff out.

Also Adachi and Joker CR? Would be rather interesting.

I'm honestly not sure. I would love him in MCU!Loki's helmet and having him have fun with shape-shifting, but Robin Hood!Ren would be solid too. Especially since it wouldn't be that much different than being a Phantom Thief.

Yeah it would. Ren is from 20XX I headcanon it as 2016 myself so it's possible he might know that he killed people, though we could play it out as him not having heard about it if you don't want Ren to know ICly.

And I don't mind if he knows. Adachi hates it, but no one listens to him anyway.

I will say though, I only know Persona 5 things through rp osmosis, but I have been spoiled rather well / I do intend to either watch an LP or play it myself in the future.

I don't own a PS4 or PS3 so I only know from watching walkthoughs on youtube. I would recommend looking up/playing Royal as that's the superior version in every way.

Oh gosh Atemu. I remember being hugely into Yugioh DM back in high school and then Yugioh 5Ds for a while before I got into Friendship is Magic.

Never watched Vrains (or Arc-V for that matter). I did try to watch Zexal after 5Ds ended, but I hated the main protag so I fell off the Yugioh bandwagon. Perhaps I did myself a favor considering all the bad things I've been hearing about Sevens. >_>

I skipped all that too, tbh lol not on purpose, just got busy. Vrains I happened to catch right when it started airing so I was able to keep up with it. Sevens is... weird, yeah. I tried it and I could barely finish 2 episodes tbh. Yikes lol

I've thought before that Robin Hood would be a good essence for Ren, and I played the character who used to have that, too! Here's the workshop where I had some ideas if you'd like to look at those.

Right like P5's plot and characters are very inspired by P2 right down to bringing in Nuclear spells again.

That and bringing back talking to shadows to recruit them.

God P5 has so many little things like Ann like Lisa, Ryuji with some of Eikichi but has P1's Mark Chariot arcana and sidekickness, Jun and Akechi with daddy issues, Nyarly and Philemon's bet on humanity like Yaldy and Igor's...I'm so glad they simplified the talking to shadows tho it was such a pain in P1 and P2 (bla bla I'm sorry P2 dualogy are my favorites in the series in terms of storyline, althought P5 beats them out of the water in nearly everything else so)

I might just go with The Shadow anyway because Akechi laughing at one place and it sounding somewhere else is something he would love. Plus he can wear a scarf and a large hat and also dispense JUSTICE. Also how dangerous is it to give Akechi telepathic and telekinesis abilities in the long run? Very.

Also Ryuji has some of P4's Kanji too, at least in terms of appearance. Yeah that did look like a total pain. Especially since I've only played Persona 4 vanilla and Persona 3 FES (didn't manage to finish that one as my PS2 Slim broke before I could), so that would be hard for me to adjust to.

Hoo boy. That's gonna be both terrifying and fun to see.

God it's all true. Honestly Read the P1 manga, watching an LP of P2 is the way to go for most people. Randomized encounters are a pain. Most don't go for the Jun romance tho even if it's pretty much canon. Let me date a boy again, Atlus.

I've seen a walkthrough of the P1 remake but I would be willing to read the manga too. Seriously. I am still mad they cut out the ability to date Yosuke in P4.

Sometimes he needs to do what he can to survive, okay? With his record and all.
