Workshop #2: January 2019

Workshop #2: January 2019—

§ about.
Welcome to Forgotten Tales story character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some reminders about how this all works:

  1. Although not required, participation in the Workshop is highly recommended.

  2. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  3. All characters will inherit characteristics and themes from a particular storybook character.

  4. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  5. The essence doesn't necessarily have to match the character, just make sure you pick one that you can work with.

  6. Refer to the Abilities section to see how abilities work.

  7. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  8. For a complete refresher, refer to the Character section of the Game Info.

  9. We have an accompanying Test Drive and Registration is always open.

  10. Feel free to hop into the Discord server for help and questions.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

§ form.
If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

THEN STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND DO IT GOSH i believe in you making things work in the spirit of fairness! for the sake of the erune club.

I'd like to see her creating these really stunning armor pieces and robes that end up looking so drab and ugh once the limit is up! Or perhaps each consecutive day she doesn't "refresh" her magic on the item it slowly decays to the point of rusting/fraying and becoming useless. AT FIRST it would be a dead "oh it's midnight poof bye" but as she gets better with her magic things can be stretched out, persist past midnight/the time limit THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS TO GO WITH THIS-- Perhaps she could learn to make her items from feathers? Or she can work her magic on feathery accessories so people can have her buffs without her constantly needing to touch up clothing? HMM.

Extreme weakness to enemies that love them though. Farm animals would be the worst. Sieg IS good but now I have Vane im like okay but him too?? theyre all great aaaah

Dude how is he ever going to find his happy ending like that. He needs to open up A BIT and have that certain je ne c'est quoi people will fall all over him for!! business in the front, did you run out of time/material in the back and sides. got it. enjoy being kind of cold??

EFFORT for the sake of the erune club! i mean fairness!! now we have to find others—

Oooh I like the idea of using her "refresh" like that! SO MANY GOOD OPTIONS yes, Korwa will be the best Fairy Godmother. That reminds me, how would she actually be like if she had to fight anything? Or would she just "you got this lemme just continuing sewing here" lmao.

Not sure if this armor will sell well... LMAO all the dragon boys are great. but what if percy and algovale—

He'll have his happy ending only if it has two things: 1) peace (and quiet); 2) dogs. He doesn't need too many people or attention for any of that!! it's okay he has his awesome cloak/cape/thing to cover it. and maybe he likes feeling that cool breeze??

yeah alright effort sucks i feel you time to do some gentle enabling/get some more buddies into grinding forever the mobage

HONESTLY GOOD QUESTION like she rolls up with her chair and easel all ready to go in game and its ??? you're a skyfarer do you really have time to set all this stuff up before Yggy wrecks you. I imagine so long as she has her quill and swings her arms around her threads can attack things and she can fight like that... with some "kick their ass baby i got your clothes" sometimes too if she's better off staying the heck back and letting the real fighters do their thing. come on GBF Versus prove me wrong

Like hell will she sell the stuff she knows will fall apart later okay those can be lovely enchanted freebies. ARENT THEY JUST also i draw aglovale today and he is too much for me I NEED TO DO HIS WHITE DAY STUFF

I'm at odds here because dogs are perf but Korwa might want to bring him out of his shell a little anyway. She'll turn some veggies into dogs for him. There. okay but dont come back to her when the hypothermia sets in. also do we have enough strikes going on.

do it for me but everyone is all into that fatestaydon'tgo weh

It's a magic chair and easel. She just twirls her quill wand and it appears. Or it follows her like some enchanted servant lmfao. ...Which is kind of hilarious to think about. She can pretty magic thread! As I actually now imagine all this thread tying up their enemies and binding them in place or something. Or is sharp and cuts them. i actually haven't been keeping up with versus

Okay okay enchanted freebies is good. Now I imagine her opening a small store. OH WHAT WOULD HER HOUSE BE LIKE?? do it DO IT. i don't have him but i've seen it lmao GET PROPOSED

Oh my god. He'd just stare at her like she just made a chimera named Nina— But no, Eustace does need to shoved pushed out a bit so her trying to bring him out is a good thing. Plus he's actually quite tolerant... If he can put up with the rest of the Society group all the time, he can handle Korwa. he's from a wintry snowy island apparently, he's used to cold. and no no we don't how do we make more

Bridge Nocturne | Original Character

[personal profile] takeittothebridge 2019-03-29 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Usami | [plurk.com profile] usamichan13
Character: Bridge Nocturne
Canon: Original Character
Age: 17
Bio Blurb: (No Wiki, but here's a profile for him in another game he's in.) An aspiring teenage musician living in a world of magic and trying to deal with issues from his past. Also, he's half-Siren (even though he looks like a mermaid).

Preferred Essence(s): I'm heavily considering Orpheus from Greek Mythology (which would have a bit of irony, considering).
Looking For: Something music-related. I also wouldn't mind something that might put him in a "damsel"-type role.

Appearance: How he generally looks. I also use Nathan Sharp (NateWantstoBattle) as a PB.

Abilities: As a siren, he has the ability to hypnotize people through the power of his song. He can also slightly manipulate a person's emotions based on the music he plays (fast-paced songs generate excitement, slow-paced songs generate sadness, etc.), but this can only be done while he's singing.

In the world he comes from, Sirens are able to drain someone's energy to nourish themselves, though this can only be done to someone influenced by their song. And while Bridge is also able to do this, he generally prefers not to, though he does tend to eat a substantial amount of food to replace the energy.

Because he is half-human, he generally appears human on land. When submerged in water, though, he can change to a Siren form, where he gains a fish-like tail and fins, and all his abilities are enhanced. In this Siren form, Bridge has a limited ability to manipulate water in his immediate area. He also has a different form that gives him wings, and can be done on land, but he doesn't have the ability to manipulate water in this form.

Some sirens in this world have unique sound-based abilities. For Bridge, he can detect even the faintest of sounds with sharp clarity over great distances.

Quirks: While he is already a pretty talented musician, Orpheus' essence will probably ramp up his ability to charm people with his music up to 11. I also am toying with the idea of him randomly breaking out into song on occasion.

Extra: While I'm really considering Orpheus, I am still open to suggestions. Putting him as a princess/damsel-type might be kind of fun too, or even a mermaid (which he will hate, because he insists that mermaids and Sirens are different, dangit).

Questions: Considering how Orpheus died in most stories, how would death by dismemberment work in this setting?

The game has a few different death mechanics, depending on where and how the character dies. They can be found in the Game Info under the Miscellaneous heading.

LOOK IT'S NOT MY FAULT THAT THAT'S PART OF HIS STORY

I did look at the death mechanics on the info page. I guess I was just wondering how something that...graphic might have to work out XD;

First Fluttershy's wings, and now this /BOOT!

But yeah, I think I'll let Lae field this one since she's the head mod.

HI I am Lae on not the right journal aha...

But as to your question, personally I don't mind graphic deaths, but out of comfort of other players, it would be better to keep it more tame. That said, I can't foresee something like that happening unless it was related to the scenes :|a Did you have anything particular in mind regarding "death scenes"?
takeittothebridge: (030)

[personal profile] takeittothebridge 2019-03-31 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not exactly. I wasn't exactly sure how much they would have to stick to the manner a death is written out for their stories, or how much something like that was required to complete their story. Personally, I'd prefer something a bit on the tamer side, if it has to come up at all.

[personal profile] flamekthunder 2019-03-31 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Aha! In that case, you don't have to worry about that. You could even have it more like he just gets hurt a lot, ranging from constant stubbed toes to broken arms, whatever you prefer. Good news is there's ample healing magic of all kinds around, mostly from NPC/environment side of things, so he wouldn't be hurt for long if you went that route. As for death scenes, we'd explain and describe what would be expected, and will always have the option for it to be a pretend death scene instead of the real thing.

Does that help?

Eustace | Granblue Fantasy

[personal profile] flamekthunder 2019-04-08 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Laena | [plurk.com profile] laenavesse
Character: Eustace
Canon: Granblue Fantasy (what are canon points post Second Advent and WMTSBIII)
Age: 28
Bio Blurb: wiki (all three versions apply, but primarily Earth and Dark); Eustace is an erune who works for an organization called the Society, which serves to protect the peace of the skydoms and fight against the Foe and those of the Moon. The Foe/Moon people really don't like the skydwellers so they're deliberately causing violence and antagonizing villages to fighting and war. Eustace's homeland had been a victim of their "attacks" and he seeks revenge by working with the Society. But rather than be filled with hate, all Eustace really wants is peace and quiet, and that is why he fights. He's a quiet guy whose emotions stopped working since that day, but has begun to warm up again. He's also dedicated to his work and whatever he sets out to do, known as a loyal dog to the Society but also willing to become a stray when things within the Society go against his own personal desire to protect certain individuals. He has a cold exterior, but really has a warm heart—and loves dogs. A lot.

Preferred Essence(s): CURRENTLY looking at the Gray Wolf from The Fire Bird and the Gray Wolf by Tsarevitch Ivan, but I'm open to others.
Looking For: Anything that kind of fits his character, really. He's the lone wolf type, and I am leaning towards wolves. I'd go hunter types, but already have the Huntsman, ah ha ha. Soldier types would work well, too, and if it helps Eustace's main weapon is a gun (rifle).

Appearance: Eustace is dark skinned with two doglike ears and grayish white hair, which will carry over no matter what his essence is. If I go with the wolf, he'll gain a tail that will match his hair and ears. ...That's all I can really think of, ah ha ha...

Abilities: Weapon wise, Eustace is an excellent marksman and an expert with daggers/short swords. He'll have to pick up new ones since his trademark weapons can't come along rip. For the Gray Wolf, some new abilities would be the ability to transform not only into a large wolf, but also to other people and animals. This ability I would limit to figures he's personally seen before, and how well he transforms will depend both on how well he knows them and his own skill. Which means it's going to be a bit messy at first, ah ha ha. He'll have some slight advanced hearing, sight, and sense of smell to match those of a wolf, and when transformed as the Gray Wolf he is capable of carrying others on his back and running quickly. He won't be able to run as fast as the original character, but at least faster than a horse. To compensate, his endurance is something he'll need to work with, only able to go small distances in short bursts at first before being able to go for longer distances.

Quirks: Sudden craving for horse meat...... This is something he's going to hate lmao. But every time he sees a horse, he's going to have a sudden craving to hunt it down and potentially kill it. HE'LL WORK ON KEEPING THIS DOWN, he likes all animals weep, but yeah. Horse are not going to want to be around him for a while.

Extra: If you ask nicely and he's okay with you, he'll let you pet his ears. Maybe. Also like all Erunes, his sense of fashion is weird in that every piece of clothing is open at the back and sides. Why? it's sexy No one knows.

Questions: Nope! But I'm open to any and all suggestions, especially for essences and other possible abilities.

Yeeees bring the handsome wolf man! And all the changes you suggest sound perfect for him. He might also have a slightly stronger tendency to guide and help people... especially dumb protagonists.

Also, because I'm incapable of doing these without recommending at least ONE other potential essence: William Tell. Yes yes, apple on his son's head, but the reason WHY he did it is because he wouldn't bow to an effigy a pompous noble erected. So the noble devised the contest; if you can shoot the apple off your son's head, I won't execute either of you. He draws two bolts, shoots the apple on the first shot, and then when asks says that if he'd hit his son, the second bolt would've been for the noble. I don't know why, but that kind of resonates with Eustace's willingness to defy his superiors to assassinate Lyria.

So for that essence, mountaineer's clothing and likely abilities, his rifle possibly turning into a crossbow, enhanced sniping capabilities, and protectiveness towards young people and defiance for authority.

WOW I'M LATE TO THIS. But hmmmm that actually is an interesting option. But after sitting on the Wolf for so long I think I'm really into the first one ffff. Mostly because I think I have more stuff to work with on a creative front.

....But man William Tell WOULD have been interesting because you're right that does sound like a character that would fit him. I'll have to keep that one in mind in case Wolfie doesn't work out down the road.
