Workshop #2: January 2019

Workshop #2: January 2019—

§ about.
Welcome to Forgotten Tales story character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some reminders about how this all works:

  1. Although not required, participation in the Workshop is highly recommended.

  2. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  3. All characters will inherit characteristics and themes from a particular storybook character.

  4. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  5. The essence doesn't necessarily have to match the character, just make sure you pick one that you can work with.

  6. Refer to the Abilities section to see how abilities work.

  7. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  8. For a complete refresher, refer to the Character section of the Game Info.

  9. We have an accompanying Test Drive and Registration is always open.

  10. Feel free to hop into the Discord server for help and questions.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

§ form.
If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Player:
Character:
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Just a quick blurb about the character so everyone can get a basic idea. Feel free to link a wiki and mention canon abilities in here.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one already in mind? List it here!
Looking For: What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering for their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list?

Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.

Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Post away and go buzz about everyone else!

LOOK IT'S NOT MY FAULT THAT THAT'S PART OF HIS STORY

I did look at the death mechanics on the info page. I guess I was just wondering how something that...graphic might have to work out XD;

First Fluttershy's wings, and now this /BOOT!

But yeah, I think I'll let Lae field this one since she's the head mod.

HI I am Lae on not the right journal aha...

But as to your question, personally I don't mind graphic deaths, but out of comfort of other players, it would be better to keep it more tame. That said, I can't foresee something like that happening unless it was related to the scenes :|a Did you have anything particular in mind regarding "death scenes"?

Well, not exactly. I wasn't exactly sure how much they would have to stick to the manner a death is written out for their stories, or how much something like that was required to complete their story. Personally, I'd prefer something a bit on the tamer side, if it has to come up at all.

Aha! In that case, you don't have to worry about that. You could even have it more like he just gets hurt a lot, ranging from constant stubbed toes to broken arms, whatever you prefer. Good news is there's ample healing magic of all kinds around, mostly from NPC/environment side of things, so he wouldn't be hurt for long if you went that route. As for death scenes, we'd explain and describe what would be expected, and will always have the option for it to be a pretend death scene instead of the real thing.

Does that help?

Ah, okay! Yes, that helps a great deal, thank you!
