Workshop #2: January 2019

Workshop #2: January 2019—

§ about.
Welcome to Forgotten Tales story character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some reminders about how this all works:

  1. Although not required, participation in the Workshop is highly recommended.

  2. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  3. All characters will inherit characteristics and themes from a particular storybook character.

  4. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  5. The essence doesn't necessarily have to match the character, just make sure you pick one that you can work with.

  6. Refer to the Abilities section to see how abilities work.

  7. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  8. For a complete refresher, refer to the Character section of the Game Info.

  9. We have an accompanying Test Drive and Registration is always open.

  10. Feel free to hop into the Discord server for help and questions.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

Eustace | Granblue Fantasy

Player: Laena | [plurk.com profile] laenavesse
Character: Eustace
Canon: Granblue Fantasy (what are canon points post Second Advent and WMTSBIII)
Age: 28
Bio Blurb: wiki (all three versions apply, but primarily Earth and Dark); Eustace is an erune who works for an organization called the Society, which serves to protect the peace of the skydoms and fight against the Foe and those of the Moon. The Foe/Moon people really don't like the skydwellers so they're deliberately causing violence and antagonizing villages to fighting and war. Eustace's homeland had been a victim of their "attacks" and he seeks revenge by working with the Society. But rather than be filled with hate, all Eustace really wants is peace and quiet, and that is why he fights. He's a quiet guy whose emotions stopped working since that day, but has begun to warm up again. He's also dedicated to his work and whatever he sets out to do, known as a loyal dog to the Society but also willing to become a stray when things within the Society go against his own personal desire to protect certain individuals. He has a cold exterior, but really has a warm heart—and loves dogs. A lot.

Preferred Essence(s): CURRENTLY looking at the Gray Wolf from The Fire Bird and the Gray Wolf by Tsarevitch Ivan, but I'm open to others.
Looking For: Anything that kind of fits his character, really. He's the lone wolf type, and I am leaning towards wolves. I'd go hunter types, but already have the Huntsman, ah ha ha. Soldier types would work well, too, and if it helps Eustace's main weapon is a gun (rifle).

Appearance: Eustace is dark skinned with two doglike ears and grayish white hair, which will carry over no matter what his essence is. If I go with the wolf, he'll gain a tail that will match his hair and ears. ...That's all I can really think of, ah ha ha...

Abilities: Weapon wise, Eustace is an excellent marksman and an expert with daggers/short swords. He'll have to pick up new ones since his trademark weapons can't come along rip. For the Gray Wolf, some new abilities would be the ability to transform not only into a large wolf, but also to other people and animals. This ability I would limit to figures he's personally seen before, and how well he transforms will depend both on how well he knows them and his own skill. Which means it's going to be a bit messy at first, ah ha ha. He'll have some slight advanced hearing, sight, and sense of smell to match those of a wolf, and when transformed as the Gray Wolf he is capable of carrying others on his back and running quickly. He won't be able to run as fast as the original character, but at least faster than a horse. To compensate, his endurance is something he'll need to work with, only able to go small distances in short bursts at first before being able to go for longer distances.

Quirks: Sudden craving for horse meat...... This is something he's going to hate lmao. But every time he sees a horse, he's going to have a sudden craving to hunt it down and potentially kill it. HE'LL WORK ON KEEPING THIS DOWN, he likes all animals weep, but yeah. Horse are not going to want to be around him for a while.

Extra: If you ask nicely and he's okay with you, he'll let you pet his ears. Maybe. Also like all Erunes, his sense of fashion is weird in that every piece of clothing is open at the back and sides. Why? it's sexy No one knows.

Questions: Nope! But I'm open to any and all suggestions, especially for essences and other possible abilities.

Yeeees bring the handsome wolf man! And all the changes you suggest sound perfect for him. He might also have a slightly stronger tendency to guide and help people... especially dumb protagonists.

Also, because I'm incapable of doing these without recommending at least ONE other potential essence: William Tell. Yes yes, apple on his son's head, but the reason WHY he did it is because he wouldn't bow to an effigy a pompous noble erected. So the noble devised the contest; if you can shoot the apple off your son's head, I won't execute either of you. He draws two bolts, shoots the apple on the first shot, and then when asks says that if he'd hit his son, the second bolt would've been for the noble. I don't know why, but that kind of resonates with Eustace's willingness to defy his superiors to assassinate Lyria.

So for that essence, mountaineer's clothing and likely abilities, his rifle possibly turning into a crossbow, enhanced sniping capabilities, and protectiveness towards young people and defiance for authority.

WOW I'M LATE TO THIS. But hmmmm that actually is an interesting option. But after sitting on the Wolf for so long I think I'm really into the first one ffff. Mostly because I think I have more stuff to work with on a creative front.

....But man William Tell WOULD have been interesting because you're right that does sound like a character that would fit him. I'll have to keep that one in mind in case Wolfie doesn't work out down the road.
