Workshop #2: January 2019

Workshop #2: January 2019—

§ about.
Welcome to Forgotten Tales story character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some reminders about how this all works:

  1. Although not required, participation in the Workshop is highly recommended.

  2. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  3. All characters will inherit characteristics and themes from a particular storybook character.

  4. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  5. The essence doesn't necessarily have to match the character, just make sure you pick one that you can work with.

  6. Refer to the Abilities section to see how abilities work.

  7. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  8. For a complete refresher, refer to the Character section of the Game Info.

  9. We have an accompanying Test Drive and Registration is always open.

  10. Feel free to hop into the Discord server for help and questions.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

§ form.
If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one already in mind? List it here!
Looking For: What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering for their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list?

Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.

Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Post away and go buzz about everyone else!

Prince Lotor | Voltron: Legendary Defender

[personal profile] smallra 2019-01-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Fox | [plurk.com profile] teacuppity
Character: Prince Lotor
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender, coming from shortly after he gets his cat, Kova.
Age: This is the kid version. Although he is probably hundreds of years old, because his development has been incredibly slowed down, he is still physically and mentally a child.
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.) Child raised in toxic (figuratively and literally environment) who nonetheless has managed to maintain some good character traits. Also, he likes cats and will be bringing his cat along. This is a very cat-themed comment.

Preferred Essence(s): The Boy Who Drew Cats is my top choice so far. And in keeping with the cat theme, possibly Puss in Boots? Or, for my non-cat choice, Reynard the Fox.
Looking For: Considering his parentage, I may also want to do something related to dragons, elves, warriors, or royalty. I'm definitely looking for other ideas that might work for him as well.

Appearance: I don't know if his appearance would change much, but I could give him cat ears and a tail. Because, cats.

Abilities: He naturally has strength, speed, and endurance that are much greater than the average human's. The obvious extra ability for the Boy Who Drew Cats would be the ability to paint cats and have them come to life and do his bidding. He would also be very good at drawing in general, but only the cats could come to life. All kinds of cats: housecats, cheetahs, lions, etc. At some point they will return to drawing form, however.

Puss in Boots could have catlike reflexes, the ability to always land on his feet, and a boost in physical power and mental faculties when he is using his powers to help someone else, instead of for himself. Possibly also the ability to turn into a cat. I assume some sweet boots would also be involved.

As for Reynard the Fox, maybe a mental ability for trickery, to cloud others' perceptions (though this would only be done with permission, of course). Possibly also the ability to turn into a fox.

Quirks: If I go with the Boy Who Drew Cats, it would probably be... the impulse to draw a lot of cats. This way he would find out about his new power relatively quickly. As for the other two, some kind of animal behavior.

Extra: Although I do really like the Boy Who Drew Cats as an essence, I am still open to other essence ideas, or ideas regarding abilities and quirks.

Questions: None that I can think of right now.

Aaaaah the smol boy~ Kotori will adopt him for sure!

And love the essences you've picked out for him, and the powers look really awesome too! The Boy Who Drew Cats is one of my favorite Japanese tales, and Puss-in-Boots and Reynard are both good trickster characters for him. There are a couple other tidbits you could work in as well for either of the characters, like Puss-in-Boots' hunting prowess or being able to seem MUCH more intimidating when threatening people, or Reynard's rivalry with wolves and need to trick him.

(Also, you should know that this Lotor and Tilt's old Lotor account were assigned the same teal color coding by my mail app~)

I approve of all adopting of Lotor. Although—he will not know what to make of it! It's not as if he has any experience with being parented.

Also, thank you! Yes, the Boy Who Drew Cats is such a great story, isn't it? It's one of my favorites, too. Oh, I like the ideas you have for Puss and Reynard! I am mostly torn between the Boy Who Drew and Puss-in-Boots, but Lotor having rivalries with any wolves is a hilarious idea.

I guess your mail app just recognizes greatness, haha.

Okay, I was just gonna come here and say that these ideas and powers are pretty good.

But then LWP mentioned Reynard having a rivalry with wolves and w e l p... Velvet is a Wolf. And that would be hilarious because she generally has a soft spot for kids so that could be an interesting dynamic.

Though she's allergic to cats so really, it could be great either way.

Haha yes, I noticed Velvet is a wolf! So their relationship could be very interesting on multiple levels. It is pretty funny to think of her having to deal with an antagonistic child. Fox v. wolf, battle of the century!

This just makes it even harder for me to decide on an essence! Haha, I'm not the most decisive when it comes to things like this.

Really, fox or cat and Velvet will still have a few issues - though it would be a different dynamic. Either way it'll be very interesting CR to have!
