Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.
- Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.
- Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.
- The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.
- Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
- Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
- Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.
- Public Registration will open May 3, but anyone with an invite and current players can register at any time. Claims will open April 26.
If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?
Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.
Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.
Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.
Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?
Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.
Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

minako arisato | persona 3 portable
Player: Rayne |
Character: Minako Arisato
Canon: Persona 3 Portable (endgame)
Age: 17
Bio Blurb: wiki page but for more info, check here
Personality Blurb:
Despite how bright and frequent Minako's smiles are at first glance, it would surprise many to know that, for a very long time, it was hard for her to smile honestly. Known as a cheerful and sociable girl when she was young, after her parents' death she had a turbulent childhood, fraught with constant confusion and loneliness as she was uprooted and passed around her relatives many times over. These formative years permanently changed the way she chose how to smile, because indeed, smiling became a choice. Her personality became a force of habit during her school years, a way to protect herself. Although she was genuinely friendly and kind to anyone she came across, she kept friendships shallow, knowing it was inevitable that she would be moving before the year's end, but unable to keep herself completely isolated either. It solidified her reputation as a nice girl that everyone knew and admired, but nobody could really claim to be a friend of.
This complicated tension between introversion and extroversion quickly unravels when Minako returns to her home town of Port Island. In spite of (or maybe because of) the circumstances she finds herself in, Minako starts bonding closely with the S.E.E.S members, schoolmates, and residents around the area. She begins to feel happy because she is truly happy, not because she has to put up a front-- and in doing so rediscovers a bold and confident side of herself that'd gone dormant after she lost her parents. Now Minako has a vitality to her that is simply bursting from her person, and it seems like she'll never run out of steam. Just as well, since she has every intention to make up for the past, and live her life to her fullest with her new friends.
Not to say that she hasn't learned from what happened to her before. She'd always been an empathetic person, but her past tendency to keep others at arms length gave her an even keener perception of others, allowing her a better understanding of the people around her. She can read their moods and who she is to them versus what they see her as, and changes herself accordingly to be who they need or who she thinks they need. While at times it might seem like she's pandering to others in this way, Minako isn't doing it to be malicious or two-faced. Rather, she does it to seek a deeper connection with her friends, and the nuanced changes in her cheerful personality are what ultimately makes her the truest self she's ever been-- a girl with a big heart, capable of bringing all types of people together. A 'zero' full of potential and affection for the people she's grown to cherish.
That affection is hard not to notice, too. Minako's warm, playful, and open-hearted way of treating others is a bright light in the otherwise gloomy and grim atmosphere of her hometown, especially after Apathy Syndrome worsens. Aside from how markedly different she looks from the average school girl, Minako has a way of seeing someone instead of just looking at them. She notices the tiny things, and endeavors to show how much she cares. She is every inch the protagonist to her own story-- neither obtrusive nor meek, capable of stirring up emotions to psyche people up, and also soothing them as crises happen and people need a shoulder to lean on. Is she a goody two-shoes? Absolutely. But more than that, she's a good person, with an awareness of her own thoughts and feelings, and a desire to express herself as honestly as possible to others. It leaves others with the impression that she has the makings of a great woman where others like her are usually just girls.
Of course, 'well-behaved women seldom make history', and that is true of Minako as well. She's been a fighter and a survivor ever since she was a child, and it's not any goody two-shoes who could meet her destiny with the strength that she did. In this sense, it's undeniable that she's brave in the conventional sense of facing danger. After all, she took her duties as field leader of S.E.E.S in stride, not backing down from fighting with the Shadows or Nyx, and in the end sacrificed herself to be the Great Seal. But she is also courageous in many smaller ways that deserve just as much recognition. Minako not only pushes through a lot of personal insecurities, she isn't afraid to raise her voice if she needs to, or to get angry when the situation deserves it. While she can get confrontational and temperamental, she will not stand to let her friends be harmed, mistreated, or talked down to. Her empathy and love of people allows her to be affected enough to stand up for what she believes is right. She is also not a person who takes much stock in prejudice or stereotypes, and she ignores most gossip at school about her and the things she chooses to do.
One of the biggest flaws that she could possess is her incredibly self-sacrificial nature. Because of the new leaf she turned after her return to Iwatodai, Minako was determined (almost desperate) to keep the happiness she'd been wanting for so long. And the way to do that was to keep it as close as she could-- that is, keep her friends as close as she could. Her friendly and cheerful nature, while a core part of her virtues, is also a vice in that she, at times, uses it to try to please everyone she meets, even if it is detrimental to her time and health. She is the type of stubborn, reckless, one-track mind person who, given the chance, would do or offer up everything to a friend to see them happy, completely forgetting about herself in the process. Because, in a very selfish way, seeing them happy makes her happy. She's the kind of dependable person that has a solution to every problem, no matter how complicated that problem is, no matter what must be done to fix it.
Who else better than this girl to be a savior of all humanity?
Preferred Essence(s): OH BOY. I have a lot of different ideas so I really need help deciding. I noticed that my potential castmate went the Greek mythology route, so I could try Nyx for the irony. Because I have FGO on the brain I was also thinking she could be one half of the Dioscuri, aka the twin gods that Akihiko and Shinjiro's Personas were based off of. Non-Greek mythology ideas are to have her be Rapunzel, or Momotarou from Japanese folklore. I'm leaning towards Rapunzel or Momotarou mostly because those seem the most fun, but I'm open to being convinced otherwise, and also to new ideas!
Appearance: If she were Rapunzel she could have loooooong hair, and but otherwise I think she could keep her usual appearance and just develop a new fashion sense to match her Essence.
Abilities: I'd like to recreate some of her magical abilities, both offensive and supportive. Momotarou would be easy, especially if I let her interact with/summon dogs, monkeys, and birds. They can help her fight! Rapunzel would be tricky offensively if I don't follow the Disney adaptation of her using her hair like a huge whip, but even in the original story she had healing tears. Nyx and Dioscuri could be general magic that I could figure out afterward (sleeping magic/space-time magic respectively).
Quirks: Rapunzel quirk could be that she very easily gets stuck in towers/high places (i.e. she feels compelled to stay in the high place until someone leads her away). Momotarou quirk could be an obsession with peaches/millet dumplings LOL or she's constantly hungry/giving away her food? Though she always is anyways. Nyx quirk could be an aversion to gates, as a nod to her own canon, or she has insomnia/sleeps during the day. Dioscuri quirk could be a constant awareness of direction, or always preferring things to go in twos.
Goal: Just here to have fun and get back into DWRP again!
Extra: Helloooo I was here before very briefly as Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere-- and muse/brain power willing, I'll return to her, but better to start off with my tried-and-true girl Minako first, especially since there's a P3/Persona cast here already!

Of course, if she goes Rapunzel, please let him play with her hair.
Whichever you choose, I'd love for them to bond and stuff :3

I mean, it was either that he's just gonna deadpan "I'm not going to call you mom." while probably eating something because it's Minato and he has to always be eating.
