Workshop #4: September 2019

Workshop #4: September 2019—

§ instructions.

Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.

  2. Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.

  3. Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.

  4. The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.

  5. Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.

  6. Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.

  7. Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.

  8. Registration will open October 1. Claims will open September 24.

If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Game Info page.

§ form.

If you're ready, just fill out the following form and discuss away! One character per comment.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?

Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.

Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.

Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.

Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?

Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.

Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Post away and go buzz about everyone else!

Soldier: 76 | Overwatch

[personal profile] steadypulse 2019-11-18 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Leo | [plurk.com profile] Leicon
Character: Soldier: 76
Canon: Overwatch
Age: around 55
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)
Solider: 76 wasn't always a vigilante, as six years prior for well over twenty-thirty years he was better known as Strike Commander Jack Morrison, head of a UN funded group known as Overwatch. Before that he was a man who joined the army, signed up for the Soldier Enhancement Program, all to combat a robot menace(known as Omnics) to save humanity and the world. He was part of a strike team lead by Gabriel Reyes, a man who was his best friend, and together he and the rest of the group were part of what led towards victory to where humanity could begin to rebuild from everything that was lost.

Thus him being appointed Strike Commander, and for many years Overwatch did do good. Under his orders they were able to push funding towards science and medical fields to try and improve lives, to better save them. Jack was a man with a dream who fought hard to try and reach it, make it a reality despite the pressures that came with such a public position of a group that still went out to fight battles.

Things went wrong, very quickly, during the last couple of years before Overwatch was disbanded; Jack Morrison was presumed dead when the HQ he and Gabriel Reyes was inside of exploded and fell on top of both mean. He figured it was better that way and was just a Soldier again. Picking up the mission to find out the truth of what happened that day, just who all was responsible for the rot within Overwatch and get his revenge. What he calls justice. In the meantime as he pursues that he works as a vigilante, hopping around the world busting heads and breaking in to places as if following a trail.

Personality Blurb: Guarded, gruff, and jaded. A man who is clearly on a mission and is rather bitter with how he views the world now. Bullheaded and stubborn when it does come to his self-imposed mission, not willing to let anything get in his way if he can help it.

He's not very easily trusting, and is quick to fight if it comes to defending himself or taking down some punks in his way. Doesn't use deadly force unless necessary, even if what "deadly force" may mean to him is questionable these days; like smashing a smoldering pinata in to the bald head of some gang punk over and over again to make his point clear is something of a norm.

When in trusted company, or around an old friend that he still trusts, the softer side of the man he once was is very clear to see. A man who gave up everything for his job, to protect those he did care for, no matter what it cost him. Still somewhere in there, even if it's not something he can look back on with much fondness; there were still good memories. Can be joking and even playful all the same, still very much Jack Morrison no matter how deeply buried he'd rather that man be. A little nostalgic, even, in quiet moments where all he can do is reflect; he still carries physical pictures of better times on him after all.

Preferred Essence(s): Raw Head from Raw Head and Bloody Bones(razorback hog telling)
Looking For: While I'm set on this one I wouldn't mind other suggestions; this one sits well with his need for revenge and doing whatever is necessary for it mindset-wise, however.

Appearance: Normally a well built man that stands at 6'1", clearly older with white/gray hair and a receding hairline despite being extremely physically fit. Maskless there are clearly two scars going at an angle across his face +many more in various places along his body. Obvious military man.

Here he'd be given a much wilder look. I mean, wild. Due to the chimera-like nature of Raw Head there'd be quite a few obvious animal features that I'd be going with. Easily confused for a wolf/werewolf when really is basically a wild hog(skeleton) with features of other animals. Would be considerably much paler as well since technically he'd be an undead creature. Of course all of this would just be his most basic form, furry, toothy, bear claw hands, and digitagrade lower legs with cloven hooves boosting his height a handful of inches.

All of this would come with a mask-like muzzle so big teeth would be hidden and sort of be a play off his normal outfit(with a sort of 'visor' made more of magic to protect more nocturnal eyes from sunlight).

Abilities: As a genetically enhanced super solider, 76 already has heightened reflexes, speed, and agility. Altered to weather terrible conditions and endure what most normal people couldn't all to win a war against robots created to wipe out humanity. There's also what comes with the fact he is a highly trained military man who has fallen in to acting as a vigilante after everything went to shit.

Transform: Like on the tin, he'd be able to transform in to a much more obvious skeleton monstrosity and hold it for a time.

Of course even in the default form I'm giving him, he's still going t have bear claw-hands, sharp teeth with a mean bite, along with further enhanced hearing and smell. Better night vision than what he'd have during the day.

Grow: In tellings of this bit of folklore Raw Head has the ability to turn himself giant enough to rip the roof of a cabin clean off, all to reach inside and grab someone to eat whole. Won't be able to keep the giant size running for long

Magic Garbage Disposal: I have no idea what else to call it, as again in the folklore Raw Head literally eats whatever leftovers and gone wrong potions Old Betty makes, and is why even before things go wrong he's capable of human speech and has magic even deep in his bones to carry on as he does after being killed and butchered. He can safely eat it and the only side effects are just... magic razorback hog.

tl;dr he can safely consume magic stuff. I figure this would also be how he 'fuels up' to do things like grow giant, and the ability below-

Borrow: A big thing in the folklore is that along Raw Head's way to find the lazy good for nothing hunter that killed him he stumbles across other dead or dying animals. From these he 'borrows' parts of them to add onto himself; a bear's claws, a panther's teeth, a raccoon's tail and so on(in some he also has a wolf's ears and upper pelt, along with either an owl or panther's eyes which I'll be going with, too).

Figure it could be fun to play around with him Borrowing other abilities(within reason) as needed, all with the stipulation that he can't hold too many at once and any amount Borrowed tires him out; all of course being much more temporary and held for only a short period of time than what he already has.

Quirks: I'm likely going with him having an innate fondness for those who hold a Witch essence, even tho innate dislike for those with a Hunter essence is tempting he already mostly dislikes people anyway. Still, could make him a nice familiar stand-in for those who need/want that.

Goal: Get him out and working with other people, and just have fun with him.
Extra: His fur is going to be stupidly soft because the thought amuses me.

Karkat Vantas || Homestuck

[personal profile] cancercarcino 2019-11-19 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Player: CS | [plurk.com profile] pocketnoivern
Character: Karkat Vantas
Canon: Homestuck (post Cascade)
Age: 6 Solar Sweeps (roughly 13 years old)
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb: Ornery, constantly exasperated, and exceptionally cantankerous would be the best way to describe Karkat. He is a troll who is not afraid to not only tell you that you’re wrong, but will do so while screaming about how big an embarrassment you are to yourself and everyone you know. His short fuse is legendary, and he is well known to fly right off the handle over the smallest provocations, screaming, pounding his fists, and overall raging at the poor focus of his ire. He is also rather gifted with his words, and won’t just tell someone he hates them, he will tell them that “I FUCKING LOATHE YOU, AND I HAVE TUNED INTO YOUR CHANNEL MOMENTS BEFORE THE ERADICATION OF YOUR TIMELINE AND THAT SMUG LOOK ON YOUR FACE, WITH JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO BASICALLY COMPLETELY FUCKING DESTROY YOU WITH HOSTILE RHETORIC.” He has turned insulting people into his own personal art form, and rarely uses the same insult twice.

Karkat is rather ruthless and ambitious, and not afraid to make power grabs where he can, although this often ends poorly for him. He has a surprising knack for grouping together unlikely allies and driving them towards a common goal, and actually makes a surprisingly effective leader. This quality only helps to exasperate his anger and make him fly off the handle even moreso when those carefully-crafted plans end up falling apart. Despite his ruthlessness and anger, Karkat is the epitome of “his bark is worse than his bite”. Unlike other members of his race, Karkat isn’t as violent as other trolls and has been known to hesitate to jump into action. While he may angrily shout and yell about events that he isn’t privy to witnessing, shocking events that he sees up close have been known to shock him so badly that he can only stand in shock.

Despite his prickly exterior and harsh words, Karkat is a troll who cares quite deeply for those he cares for. He has cried over friends on more than one occasion upon seeing their deaths (or apparent deaths, in some cases), and genuinely seems invested in helping his friends with their relationship issues. He is also known to occasionally show a softer side of his personality to a select few, even talking cordial and politely to people (or, at least, Karkat’s version of cordial and polite). Often times, when he thinks he is alone (or at least that no one is around to mock him), Karkat can get surprisingly reflective and melancholic, and has a strong habit of self-loathing and blaming himself for many of the wrongdoings that have occurred around him. At times this comes across as humorous jabs at his past or future self, but in these reflective moments, he takes the full blame onto his shoulders, such as how he admitted to Jade in a memo that he messed up his session’s genesis frog in his haste to finish their session, which in turn caused the human’s universe to be diseased; in his own words, “I think I gave him cancer. I gave your whole universe cancer, Jade.”

Preferred Essence(s): I’m heavily thinking of Sun Wukong from Journey to the West

Looking For: Honestly, if anyone can think of any others, by all means I will take suggestions!

Appearance: Normally, Karkat looks something like this: 1 : 2 : 3.

In terms of appearance boons granted to him by his Essence, if I go with Sun Wukong, I’m thinking of possibly giving him a monkey’s tail, and maybe giving him a forehead band/diadem thing that he under normal circumstances can’t take off. Also maybe give him a bit more hair on his back, neck, and arms, to sort of reflect the whole “monkey hairs” thing.

Abilities: 72 Transformations: This isn’t just limited to shapeshifting; in the original story, he could do things such as transform individual hairs on his body into any person, object, or animal, change tufts of hair into swarms of monkey soldiers, transform other objects, and even create clones of himself or his staff. Obviously Karkat wouldn’t be getting these abilities right off the bat, but these could be earned via level-ups and whatnot.

Magic Golden-Clasped Rod: Karkat would be granted Sun Wukong’s legendary staff, which he could use in fighting. It would be able to extend and shrink as he needs, but the length maximum would be limited upon entry (maybe only a couple feet long at first).

Monkey King’s Resilience: In the story, Sun Wukong is described as both immortal and invincible. This, obviously, is way too OP for the game setting, but I think that anyone with Sun Wukong’s Essence would at least have a bit more physical resilience than your average joe.

Monkey Magic: Sun Wukong also had spellcasting abilities, which included things such as body freezing spells, water and fire avoidance charms, lock-breaking spells, protective circles, and summoning winds and any local gods. Karkat would get one or two of these abilities at first, slowly building them up and unlocking new magical abilities during his stay here.

Somersault Cloud: Karkat would gain the ability to leap large distances in a single somersault. Sun Wukong could leap as far as 54000km in a single leap; Karkat would start smaller, but the distance could increase with time/level-ups

Fiery Golden Eyes: These would grant Karkat the ability to see great distances, as well as see through any disguise, illusion, or transformation. I would probably put a daily limit on how many times Karkat could use this, and increase the limit with time.

Quirks: The only quirks I can think of right now is allowing horses to obey him instinctually (since Sun Wukong had spent time taking care of horses in the Heavens in the original story), as well as maybe give him a new liking for peaches. Any other quirk suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Goal: Since I’m taking him from post Cascade, honestly, just getting him to settle down and calm down a bit after dealing with a failed game session and teammates constantly killing each other.

Yu Narukami | Persona 4

[personal profile] yuzanagi 2019-11-25 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
SUBJECT LINE: CHARACTER | CANON

Player: Pixle | [plurk.com profile] pixle
Character: Yu Narukami
Canon: End of Dancing All Night
Age: 18
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb:
Yu has a warm heart and he cares deeply for those close to him, and tends to radiate that warmth to those around him, whether they want to or not. He is basically FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC to the tenth degree;

"My friends faced their own Shadows and came out stronger for it, but I never met mine. To make up for it, though, I've had my friends to help me mature. It's my companions that I draw strength from in all of this."

Chosen to represent Hope, you just have to spend a few days to see why. First impressions might chalk him up as just a quiet boy who becomes deadly serious with things become serious, he eventually opens up to others and has relentless enthusiasm towards things that sometime take a weird turn (such as eating anything in the fridge).

Because of this, connections have become extremely important to him (SOCIAL LINKS SOCIAL LINKS SOCIAL LINKS). He'll joke at his friends' expenses and tends to mess with them, but don't do the same or threaten them, he'll be quick to come to their aid. There's a darkness to him in that manner; he's EXTREMELY protective of them. There is no doubt that Yu would sacrifice his life over and over (and over and over) to endure countless pain if it meant one of his friends wouldn't have to. And, in return, he also trusts them with his own life and knows that they'll never let him down.

He's more of a listener than a talker and others might find it very easy to talk to him and open up because he's not very judgmental. Most of all, he has a head on his shoulders, even it sometimes the opposite - on the outfit he will be calm, but inwardly he will be panicking.

He's not afraid of a challenge and is pretty (and somewhat very stupidly) brave.

Preferred Essence(s): A few ideas that I'm looking into;
Freyja ( Norse Mythology - in part because she has a chariot pulled by cats)
Thor (Norse Mythology - Partly because Thunder God and he could wield a huge hammer)
The Shadow a pulp character from the 1930s-1940s
Vishnu (Hinduism)
Quetzalcoatl (Mesoamerican Mythology)

Looking For:
Suggestions (maybe other ideas)? So far Freyja, Thor and The Shadow are my top three but I'm very open to ideas or something equality fitting.

Appearance: A 6 feet tall young adult that is a fashion disaster that still wears his old school outfit because 'it's nostalgic' but can also be found in all sorts of other outfits.

Abilities: Since I'm not sure which essence I will go with, I'll just list Yu's current powers;

- As with other characters from the Persona universe and the series' namesake, Yu has the ability to summon parts of him made flesh to combat the hardships of life. But Yu's is a little more unique than that, as he has the abilities of a Wild Card which grants him the ability to summon more than one Persona. It means he can switch between a few of them.

- He can use two handed swords pretty easily (anything from golf clubs to samurai swords to claymores)

- Persona users have a natural buff that makes them endure attacks and have better agility. Personas themselves have weaknesses and immunities depending on which one used - for example, a certain Persona might make Yu immune or even absorb and heal himself with a sword attack, but also make him much weaker to a fire attack.

- Amazing Cook

- Top tier friendship

- Can play the guitar (for one song)

- He can dance pretty dang well

Quirks: Nothing decided yet since it will depend on the essence.

Goal: Having fun with the setting and friends, getting to give him new powers and throw him into a wrench, just be the usual social butterfly that Yu usually ends up being

Mordred | Fate/Apocrypha

[personal profile] arrogator 2019-12-01 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Steve | [plurk.com profile] opticblast
Character: Mordred | Saber of Red
Canon: Fate/Apocrypha, canon point'll most likely be after her and her Master talk about stealing the Grail, so about halfway through!
Age: Mordred's complicated so technically she was only a few years old when she died, but she's also stock angry anime teenager in terms of physical/mental age. I'M SORRY FATE IS WEIRD.
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.) And then it continues here. I'm sorry the TM wiki is bad, so here's the 1-2 paragraphs condensing all that and putting it in a better order:

In life, Mordred grew up quickly, idolizing King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and wanted very much to join their group. She had no idea this was exactly what her mother, Morgan, wanted until after she'd become a knight and learned she was actually the king's child. Revealing this to the king did not go well and things continue to not go well from there with Mordred rebelling against the kingdom and a giant mess happening that results in Camelot destroyed and Mordred dead.

But in Fate, if you're a historical figure, death usually isn't the end of the story as centuries later, Mordred's summoned as a Servant to fight in the Holy Grail War where she can get a wish granted if her and her Master win. It's originally team vs. team and as Mordred and her Master get through some of the early fights okay, everything pretty much falls apart after the first battle with the officiator taking over one of the Red team and making a giant mess of everything. They've just scored a big win by eliminating one of the Casters and formed a truce with the remnants of the Black team because it's better to work together against the Red team for the time being.

Personality Blurb:
Mordred is a contradictory mess right down to her core. Despite the whole betrayal and rebellion thing, she still idolizes and clings to the concept of knighthood despite being recorded in history and myth as the knight most likely to betray. She loves her father and wants to be acknowledged by the king, but also has a sword powered by her hatred of her dad and kind of ruined Camelot forever.

And turns out when you're a contradictory mess, you tend to have a lot of anger, both misplaced and not. Especially since Mordred doesn't really do a ton of introspection at this point because that's a pain in the ass, and everything else is a pain in the ass so touching on anything she has issues about is going to set her off. Camelot and King Arthur are definitely touchy subjects. Bringing up she's a girl's one too. She is, but she has a habit of taking it as people saying she can't be a knight or become king because of that, so she's going to want to punch them in the face. Calling her a guy when she's not is also a good way to set her off and get decked. So it's best to just tread carefully around her.

But it's worth noting that at this point, she's spent more time around people and while she still hasn't done a lot of introspection and working on addressing the unending inner turmoil, she has made some improvements. She hasn't betrayed her Master, in fact, other than hitting on a couple of touchy subjects at the start, they've gotten along well. And she's maybe putting a little bit of thought into figuring out those contradictions and who she wants to be. Not a lot, but some! Maybe!

Preferred Essence(s): There's a few ideas I keep kicking around, but I keep coming back to the idea of Krampus for this one.
Looking For: I'm open to other ideas! I kind of like the idea of giving her something that can use that bonus personality trait to give her something to think more about her own mess or at least push her into trying to do something about it (though she might be resistant to it at first). So in this case, giving the person who rebelled and wrecked her father's kingdom the essence of a folklore creature that punishes bad children.

Only real things I'd like to avoid are anything too close to her, so knights/swordsmen/that kind of thing or anyone that's already in her branch of Fate because that would be kind of iffy.
Appearance:
So as you might've seen on the TM wiki page I linked up there, Mordred typically looks like this.

I definitely want to play with some of the physical changes if she's Krampus. Probably not the giant tongue, but I was thinking the hooves and teeth. Maybe the horns and ears for when she's using Krampus powers, her regular helmet has horns, so I kind of like the idea of incorporating the Krampus horns into things too.

Abilities: Okay in canonMordred has a bunch of generic abilities as a Servant which basically boil down to superhuman strength and the ability to kind of dematerialize and hang around as an invisible spirit (which she never uses because she canonically dislikes it so it can be ditched with no real problem), and the ability to summon her armor.

For things that are specific to her since Fate kind of links items and abilities together for Servants, she's got two:

-Secret of Pedigree's tied to her helmet. It keeps people from deducing her identity, Noble Phantasm (I'll get to this in a second) or skills unless she chooses to reveal it.

-Clarent Blood Arthur is Mordred's Noble Phantasm (special attack), which takes all her anger at her dad, turns it into energy and shoots it out of the sword. I've described it as a sword beam powered by daddy issues because that's basically what it is.

Not really interested in regaining or adapting the helm thing since I get the feeling by the time she's regained anything there, there wouldn't be a need for it.

But in game she goes with Krampus for the essence, I'm thinking the branch could eventually become more swordlike over time. I don't know if it's too much but maybe someday some sort of swordbeam or festive holiday swordbeam?

Thinking the chains Krampus carries around could eventually be used as a replacement for armor summoning. Like for now, she could just summon the chains but with some work, maybe summon more to kind of wrap herself up in them. If I go with the horns as a physical thing and the chains like this, for her, it wouldn't be too different from the armor she's used to.

I haven't thought of much to do with Krampus's traditional bag other than putting people things in it, so I'm open to suggestions on things to do with that.

Quirks: Like I mentioned before, the main quirk I'm thinking of is having her want to smack people for misbehaving or chuck them in the bag.

Goal: To actually have Mordred continue developing her character and working on her issues without having time sensitive Grail War stuff hanging over her head. She's been dead forever so things don't really have a chance of resolving, but to be more at peace with her bullshit and situation wouldn't be the worst thing.

Sylvain Gautier | Fire Emblem 3 Houses

[personal profile] ruinedsky 2019-12-05 08:51 am (UTC)(link)

Player: Einir | [plurk.com profile] moxana
Character: Sylvain Fuckboy Gautier
Canon: FE3H, post-timeskip, unsure of route
Age: 24
Bio Blurb: Wiki- Holy Spoilers Batman.

Basically, FE3H takes place in fantasy europe and Sylvain is from the cold northern parts thereof. His family, the Gautiers, own a land bordering another country. Fodlan, his native continent, is full of racist xenophobes and keeps very strict border control. His own family is responsible for keeping that border intact, along with the neighboring title-holders. Despite this, Sylvain is thoughtful enough and well-read enough, that he doesn't drink that kool-aid, and sees past the propaganda that's spread about foreigners. Though he usually keeps these thoughts to himself.

The Gautier family is from The Kingdom, one of the three countries within Fodlan. Sylvain is the heir to his house, despite being the second-born, because he bears the Gautier crest where his elder brother, Miklan, does not. Crests are heritable magical symbols that have defined the nobility since the founding of Fodlan and they're really complicated I don't wanna make it a Thing. He has one and he hates it that's all that matters.

During the events of canon, Sylvain is attending the Officers Academy in the Monastery at Garreg Mach. This is dead in the center of Fodlan, and the three countries within. Nobility (and commoners who can scrape up the money) all attend school there, under the watchful eye of the Church of Seiros (I don't get politics in this game either). There, Sylvain flirts his time away with a revolving door of girlfriends and one night stands, makes a horrible reputation for himself, and basically looks like one of those assholes who never studies and makes straight As anyway.

He's learned horsebackriding and lance fighting from a very young age and is quite adept at both. He has a secret talent for black magic (logic) but he keeps that shit under wraps.

When the War Happens he's forced to grow up a little bit more, but spoilers, darling, and that's very different depending on route and I'm undecided there.

Personality Blurb: Looks like your average himbo fuckboy who just chases skirts and doesn't take anything seriously.

Actually an extremely intelligent, compassionate young man with a lot of scars and misconceptions about relationships and love who has a lot of complicated feelings and is terrified of commitment or honest affection.

Sylvain coasts by letting people underestimate him. It's safe, and it gives him a leg up in almost every situation. His life is easier if he's "just good enough" and seen as too busy hitting on girls to be a threat, and that's always been true. If you spend enough time with him, or catch him at the right moment, you will see that there's more going on in his head than that. Sylvain may have ambivalent feelings about the girls he takes to bed, and will admit in the right state of mind that he resents them because he knows they don't see him as a person, just as a crest, but he cares for them also. He honestly enjoys making them happy in the time that he's with them, and sabotages his relationships with them both to protect himself, and in his perception, protecting them.

Things are simpler for people he considers friends, but not by much. Sylvain is deeply loyal and protective of his oldest friends, willing to put up with their nagging and lecturing for his behavior, willing to put his life on the line to protect them. It actually doesn't take much to get Sylvain to the level of willing to be a meat shield. (You have reached social link level 2, Sylvain will now die for you). He doesn't hold his own life in terribly high regard- anyone he considers a friend is more important than he is, even if he would never say so in so many words.

There is also an anger hiding in Sylvain that will rear it's head sometimes. If someone he loves is in danger, or more often when the subject of crests comes up. Crest culture has emotionally, and physically, damaged everyone Sylvain knows and cares about and he holds an excessive amount of resentment for that. He hates that crests define people and roles, and that everyone in the nobility has their life and personality boiled down to their crest and its inherent duties. He resents being seen as a crest and a means of breeding more people with crests, even though he also relies completely on the fact that he has a crest to live a comfortable life at all. He resents himself, for that.

Overall, Sylvain is a very complicated man who is very good at lying to himself and has never had a fully healthy relationship in his life.

Preferred Essence(s): Kai from the Snow Queen
Looking For: Open to ideas! powers related to ice and snow are great, as are mimicry and rogue like powers. anything that makes him a damsel in distress would be hilarious.

Appearance: Sylvain is a very tall lad with bright red hair, light brown eyes, and a pale complexion. He's got a knight's build with a strong chest and legs, wide shoulders and some serious muscle tone. He keeps his hair short and choppy, feathering out in little waves. For his essence, Sylvain will gain a little white mote in his iris for the mirror shard in his eyes.

Abilities: ice magic! able to withstand cold!

I would love to fit some kind of mirror-based mimicry into his powers somehow, like, reflecting people back at themselves, maybe the worst of their traits somehow. It's half formed. Sylvain in canon is great at being exactly what people expect of him, though, so it would be really poetic.

Quirks: Will randomly say very nasty, mean, not untrue things.

Goal: Seeing some kind of long term character development with ser fuckboy
Extra: yes its me Ein I was here with Crona months ago and disappeared off the face of the earth. FE3H ate me and I'm in love with this dipshit now so you all get to deal with him. Lucky you!

Chris Kratt | Wild Kratts

[personal profile] beingthecreature 2019-12-19 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Zumi | [plurk.com profile] zumidotexe
Character: Chris Kratts
Canon: Wild Kratts, post Season 3
Age: Early to mid 20's
Bio Blurb: (Wiki.)

Chris is a member of the Wild Kratts team, a five-person band who travel the world in their flying turtle-like ship, the Tortuga, to study the various creatures of the world. One of the most important parts of this involve the Creature Power Suits, special inventions created by Aviva- spearhead of the whole project -that allow Chris and his brother Martin to take on the forms of different animals. Originally these were just going to be put to the use of study, but it wasn't long before the crew started encountering several villains in their travels, people who aim to use and abuse, and sometimes even threaten to kill, animals for their own nefarious ends. The brothers the crew, and the creature powers, always set things right in the end but so far, it's been a never-ending battle.

Overall though, Chris spends his days out exploring the world with his brother, using creature powers and discovering new and unique things about the animals of the world. Up to and including time travel at least twice, though that is quite its own story...

Personality Blurb:
Chris himself is a generally cheery individual. He loves helping (be it people or animals, especially animals), and is friendly, and a bit of a trickster. Once you get him talking it's hard to make him stop, and he usually answers five questions when someone asks him one. He likes organization and lists, and keeps his gear carefully sorted so he knows where everything is at any given moment.

While he is normally pretty positive, he does have a temper to him. Even his brother has learned to be wary and get outta town when Chris is angry. Thankfully it at least burns itself out quickly, but rarely without a few bruises (on either party) or harsh words to show for it. He can, though, direct this into a righteous anger when the situation calls for it, usually when someone's life and wellbeing (again, either person or animal) is at stake. Chris defends the downtrodden and those who can't protect or speak for themselves, and he won't stop until the job is done, even at risk of injuring himself in the process.

Chris can also be moody, prideful, stubborn, occasionally pensive or outright depressed, and gets WAY too caught up in what he's doing, especially when studying animals (really Chris, checking out a mantid's face when you're miniaturized small enough to be EATEN BY IT is not the time to do that). He will sometimes get hurt doing this, but eventually he'll just take it all in stride. He just rolls with the punches a little less easily than his brother does. No matter what though, Chris is friendly, dedicated, and loyal. Just... a bit of a doof about it all at the same time.

Preferred Essence(s): The púca (or pooka, phouka, and five hundred other spellings)
Looking For: Mostly settled on the púca, but open to other shapeshifter ideas!

Appearance: Using this image for inspiration, Chris would gain a long black furry tail and rabbit-like ears (stemming from where his normal ears would be). Any transformations he takes will be a mixture of green and black in coloration. He'll also gain gold eyes, brighter when changed and duller when not (rendering them closer to his natural brown).

Abilities: Animal shapeshifting! At first, lining up with the mythos he'd be able to take on only farm or urban (pigeons, raccoons, foxes, falcons, etc) animals, but as the ability upgrades he'll be able to spread out into the further animal kingdom.

For what they can do, since Chris is most familiar with using the natural abilities of creatures that's what I'll probably stick with- so the horse is fast and can carry others, the goat can headbutt, the falcon can divebomb, and so on -but am definitely open to suggestions! Probably going to keep him in a mostly supportive role with some offensive abilities either way, though.

Quirks: More prone to his trickster side, often teasing others or yanking up friends for surprise rides/flights. A bit more temperamental than usual; might need to be "appeased" from time to time like other fae (so leaving a gift of some kind at his home, mostly fruit/vegetables in keeping with the mythology). Weakness to being attacked with certain metal weapons.

Goal: Honestly right now, just exploring the setting with him, though Chris himself will absolutely be dedicated to the Storyteller's plight

Wembley Fraggle | Fraggle Rock

[personal profile] forachange 2019-12-28 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Satyr | [plurk.com profile] dolewhip
Character: Wembley Fraggle
Canon: Fraggle Rock, post-series
Age: It's hard to say. According to the performers, Fraggles were played as both adults and children at the same time. For our purposes, we'll say young adult.

Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Fraggles are small beings who live underground, mostly in the location and society known as Fraggle Rock. They place great importance on music and general fun, although there are a surprising amount of dangers that can befall a Fraggle. Wembley has experienced many of these while exploring with his best friend, Gobo.

However, Wembley's true journey over the series was more internal than anything else. While a lot of his early traits have stayed in place - notably, indecisiveness and a desire to avoid conflict - he's grown confident enough to stand up for himself when he needs to. He has started to figure out who he is independent of his social circle, though his friends still mean the world to him.

Personality Blurb:
Wembley's most defining trait is that asking him to make a decision is asking him to do a lot. His name - theorized to be a nickname, actually - comes from the Fraggle world "wemble", meaning "going to and from between two things without being able to make up your mind." This indecisiveness can cause plenty of problems, big and small, for Wembley and others. His wembling comes from the fact that he can't help but see all sides of a situation, and recognize the valid points of each. As such, there is another side of that coin: Wembley is good at seeing aspects of a situation that might be less obvious to others.

For a long time, Wembley would agree with whatever anyone said, mainly to avoid conflict, but he eventually started doing that a bit less, and became able to stand up for himself - and even more so for others. He's always been very trusting of others, and though this has caused problems, it hasn't changed. He's a very caring, empathetic Fraggle. Though he's not smart, and easily-frightened, you won't find a more loyal friend.
Preferred Essence(s): Ferdinand the Bull from The Story of Ferdinand fits Wembley's personality wonderfully: a creature who just wants peace, and "would try to be agreeable with anyone."

Looking For: While I love the Ferdinand idea, I'm also open to other possibilities that would highlight Wembley's personality.

Appearance: He's adorable and small, - Fraggles stand between 18 and 22 inches high. With a Ferdinand Essence, he'd gain a set of horns, (like the typical image of a viking helmet, just without the helmet part), and have a permanent flower crown, as Ferdinand loves nothing more than flowers.

Abilities: As a Fraggle, Wembley can share dreams if he falls asleep with his head touching the other person. He can also play a number of musical instruments, though he prefers the bongos most, and tends to break into song often, be it a group number or a solo. And, to quote from Zumi's Gobo Workshop: "There's definitely something undeniably magic about them though, it's just hard to put one's finger on what." Wembley, specifically, also has a naturally heightened sense of hearing. For example, he can hear underground springs through rocks.

From a Ferdinand Essene, Wembley would gain three initial abilities: he would be able to instantly grow flowers out of the ground, and would be able to give off what I can best describe as a "calming energy" that mildly subdues foes and can potentially - at other players' discretion/choosing - put Aspects and others at ease, particularly if they are in conflict. He would also have increasing strength due to the "bull" aspect, although considering Wembley has sub-par strength even for a little Fraggle, that could potentially just lead to him having "average" human strength.

My idea is that after different campaigns, some flowers Wembley grows will gain abilities that he - and maybe others? - can utilize if they're picked.

Quirks: Skipping this!

Goal: I'm just delighted by this character, honestly, and would love to further explore his character growth and independence.

[personal profile] blue_ice 2020-01-14 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Zoki | [plurk.com profile] kharamagic
Character: Seto Kaiba
Canon: Anime, 4kids version, post-canon
Age: 18
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

A young man from Japan of the early 2000s. He and his younger brother Mokuba were orphaned at an early age, and they remained at the orphanage for some time because most prospective parents were only interested in adopting the young prodigy Seto, not the wild child Mokuba. When the wealthy CEO of a weapons corporation visited the orphanage for a PR op, Seto saw his opportunity and forced the man to adopt them together with some trickery on his part. This came at a high cost: Gozaburo Kaiba was a cruel and abusive man, and conditioned Seto into a cold and calculating corporate type worthy of taking his place, with one motto: win or die.

After losing an important match and his prized dueling title, Kaiba's singular goal became taking revenge on the one responsible. He clashed with his new rival, the spirit of an ancient pharaoh, time and time again. And at times, the safety of the city hinged on their card duels. Kaiba used his vast wealth and position as new CEO to gain every advantage he could, but never quite overcame his rival's strength. In the end, the pharaoh departed for the afterlife without Kaiba ever achieving a win...and that fact became his new driving motivation to do the impossible: pierce the veil of death and face the pharaoh again.

Personality Blurb:

Seto Kaiba is...extraordinarily difficult to get along with. He's been isolated in his position as CEO for so long, cold and closed-off to protect himself from those who would attack him and his brother. Add to that his innate gift for computer systems and mathematics and he's really high on his own genius, with little patience for those he deems ignorant. Which is, let's be honest, almost everyone.

He's been ingrained with a compulsion to be recognized as the best, which makes him a fierce competitor. Put any contest or game in front of him and he'll immediately start cooking up strategies to win, complete with insults for the opponents he deems unworthy (which is, let's be honest, almost everyone). His style in dueling is to crush the opponent as fast as possible.

While his kinder side is buried deep, it'd be an exaggeration to say he has zero redeeming qualities. He's notably kinder to children, especially orphaned children and those who remind him of his beloved brother, and has been known to give the orphans free admission to his theme park. There are also certain moral lines he won't cross: he doesn't consider it fun to defeat a severely disadvantaged opponent, hates those who prey on the helpless, and has a particular contempt for abusive (step)parents.

Preferred Essence(s): No clue.
Looking For: I honestly don't know. All I do know is that I'd prefer that greed isn't a defining part of his essence...because while it is part of him, it doesn't define him.

Appearance: He's a rather tall human, and tends to wear large trenchcoats that make his profile more impressive and intimidating. His proportions are kind of out of whack, and that could be fun to play with...

Abilities: He's a brilliant strategist, doing especially well with games of skill. If there's any way he can summon small creatures or gain them as allies, that would be choice as well. He has no canon supernatural abilities of note.

Quirks: None in mind at the moment, but possibly a small one depending on the essence...

Goal: He needs to learn how to be human. That means getting along, even if he's not going to be best buds with everyone.

Woody Pride | Toy Story

[personal profile] pullstringcowboy 2020-01-30 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Foxie | [plurk.com profile] throneofroses
Character: Woody Pride
Canon: After he meets Forky in 4th Movie
Age: about 50-ish
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Personality Blurb:
Usually known to be the leader with his fellow toy friends, Woody was always Andy’s favorite. He cared very much for the boy and knew his purpose in life was to always be there for Andy. Woody will go through just about anything to be with his owner. Knowing that his duty is to be a toy for his “favorite deputy”. He cares for his friends and will do his best not to let them down.

However, this cowboy does have some flaws, there is a reason why his last name is Pride. Woody is easily tempered if things don’t go the way he wants. If he has a plan, he wants everyone to stick to it no matter what and can be very stubborn on changing his mind. It’s also shown that Woody became very jealous, when Buzz became Andy’s new favorite in the beginning. He even tried to impel Buzz behind Andy’s Desk, but accidentally knocked him out the window by mistake. Woody will become frustrated at the littlest of things and will stomp off until he can think of something to do about the situation at hand.

Although when Woody’s emotions can be over bearing even for him at times. When he becomes sad, usually he would try and keep it to himself. Not wanting others to worry about him, or see him as being weak. Woody really can care and love for others. He’s willing do daring and dangerous rescues just to make sure his friends are all right. If you become friends with Woody, he is definitely someone you can count on and will try to be there for you.

Preferred Essence(s): The Nightingale or Velveteen Rabbit

Looking For: A character that fit's Woody own struggle and his personality honestly.

Appearance:
An old-fashioned human pull-string doll that just happens to be a cowboy with all types of sayings from his voice box such as, “You’re My Favorite Deputy.” And “Someone’s Poisoned the Water Hole!” Woody is supposed to be a toy based on his puppet from the 1950’s series “Woody’s Round Up”. A show that is supposed to be similar to the old show “Howdy Doody” that have ventriloquist's dummies with a cowboy theme.

Woody’s face is made of paint, but when he comes to life he can change expressions and talk. Dressed just like an actual cowboy, Woody has a cowhide-color dyed vest and stitched poly-vinyl hat. His gun holster on his belt is empty though. Painted on pale skin, brown hair, and auburn eyes, Woody does resemble a tall skinny cowboy. The height for this toy is 16 inches tall and has cotton on the inside.

Abilities:
Woody is a toy, there for he can’t do much. He those have his leadership skills though and could lead his friends in a sheer fire plan. There are times where Woody can even come up with a good elaborate scheme. He is wise enough to come up with ideas and could trick others so he can get away with whatever he needs to do. Once Woody has a plan set, he will stick to it until the job is done.

As a toy, Woody has a stealth mode as hiding out as just a toy. He typically will do this whenever humans are around, because toys have a code to not actually move or speak in front of people. After all, the point of a toy is to be loved by a child and be brought to life by their imagination.

Also Kingdom Hearts canon helped us out on some abilities he could do there that could help in combat! I certainly love the idea of him using a rope to lasso in baddies and cowboy like style fighting without a gun ofcourse!

Quirks:
I definitely think I want to keep the canon point where he still has his pullstring, because that can definitely cause some moments when he doesn't want his voice box talking.

Goal: Becoming more open on how he really feels.

Extra: LOOK, HE'S WOODY, HOWDY HOWDY HOWDY~!

Isaac "Felix" Gates | Red vs. Blue

[personal profile] daggersedge 2020-02-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Kas | [plurk.com profile] twofouroneten
Character: Isaac "Felix" Gates
Canon: Red vs. Blue | end of season 14 episode 11 (aka end of the bounty hunter episodes)
Age: unknown; appears to be mid- to late-twenties
Bio Blurb: (Wiki.)
In the ~space future~, there was a big war between humans and a group of genocidal aliens. It lasted about 30 years, during which humanity spent most of the time getting thoroughly stomped. Felix was one of the soldiers who fought in the war — and despite the stakes, he loved it. He lived not just for the fight, but for the kill. Together with his partner, Locus, he survived one of the worst battles in humanity's history. Then, in a series of extremely lucky circumstances, humanity managed to win. The war was over.

Having found his purpose in battle, Felix was unable to return to civilian life. Neither was Locus. They ended up banding together with another trained killer, Siris, as a group of bounty hunters. Their success was middling; they were all better at killing than anything else. But they stuck with it for a time, with Felix always looking for ways to get more money, legally or otherwise.

And that's his current canon point! (Felix eventually goes on to become a mercenary who attempts to commit genocide for a fat paycheck, but he's not there yet. He's still a bounty hunter who is attempting to Do Good.)
Personality Blurb:
Felix is a charmer and a skilled actor. He's able to quickly read a room, immerse himself in social situations, and win the trust of perfect strangers. He uses humor and an easygoing attitude to disarm people's suspicions, then uses their expectations against them. He is manipulative and cunning. He plays an excellent friend, giving reassurance where it's needed and crushing any doubt that doesn't serve his purposes. He's also a showman, capable of distracting a crowd with his right hand while his left poisons the well. Felix rarely finds himself in a situation that he can't worm his way out of … unless someone uses his weaknesses against him.

Felix's greatest weakness is his ego. He thinks that he is amazing and infallible; if there's a mistake, it's on someone else, and he's quick to assign blame. This leads him to underestimate people and talk too much, to the point that he monologues about how great he is compared to his enemies. He is a sadist who enjoys taunting and tormenting people, considering it great fun. Felix's belief that he is superior and has everything under control is what leads to his greatest mistakes — and when those mistakes happen, he's left stunned, silent, and unable to devise a means of escape.
Preferred Essence(s): The Fox from Æsop's fable "The Fox and the Cat" (read here, or here, or here). This essence works well because Felix is arrogant and wily, and he freezes when his plans fall apart. His ego and cleverness get in the way of his common sense (don't brag about your awesomely intricate plan, dumbass!), and he relies heavily on ~schemes~.
Looking For: I basically flailed and went 'YAAAAAAS' when I found that fable, but I'm open to other ideas! Interested in stories where people pay the price for their ego, as well as stories where someone's partner/right-hand turns against them. (Bonus points if they involve animals, particularly foxes!)

Appearance: I mean, he's called "rat-faced," but uh. Other than that, nothing super notable canon-wise! Orange is a big theme for him. If he gets a fox-related essence, he'll probably look more vulpine — give him a big fluffy tail (that he'll hate), some fox ears, and maybe orange fox eyes.

Abilities: BOY HOWDY this is the bit I'd love help with!! My basic ideas right now are:
  • BAG OF TRICKS! Like a literal bag full of tricks that he can whip out. The chance of the trick being helpful or not is random (I'd flip a coin or roll dice OOC). It would essentially function as a Bag o' Distractions for when things hit the fan. Possibly involves explosives since those can be either useful or disastrous, and Felix has an affinity for them in canon.
  • FOX FORM! What it says on the tin. Lets him turn into a fox and (try to) scamper away.
  • SHIELD! This mirrors a piece of equipment he gets in canon. It's a hardlight shield a bit larger than his body that can protect him from bullets, give other characters a boost (literally; they can stand on it), and be used to smack enemies around. (This shield is something Felix relies on to the point that he eschews common sense, tying into the Fox and the Cat fable.)
  • SWORD! Again, this mirrors a piece of equipment he gets in canon. It's a fancy energy sword that Felix is very proud of. Predictably, he's also very stupid with it, as seen when he slices the platform on which he's standing because what is common sense! He has a cool sword, and he's gonna use it!! (This may work better as an eventual regain, but! Putting it here so people can weigh in.)
  • Quirks: Slight aversion to dogs.

Goal: Mostly just have fun! Felix's canon point is one where he's not yet completely irredeemable; he's still trying to do good, even if he's pretty bad at it. I'm eager to see how he'll work in a setting where the goal is to restore things, not destroy them.
Extra: His TDM comment is here! Aaaand this is basically Felix in a nutshell:

    John Shepard | Mass Effect

    [personal profile] wefightordie 2020-03-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Nick | [plurk.com profile] Nicknacked
    Character: John Shepard
    Canon: Post ME 3
    Age: 32 (technically???)
    Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Shepard was an orphan who grew up on the streets of Earth and fell into a life of gangs and crime at an early age. As soon as he turned 18 he enlisted with the Alliance Military which led him to a voluntary mission on the planet Akuze, where his entire team save for himself was wiped out by a thrasher maw, making Shepard the sole survivor. His decisions are often criticized as being brutal, even heartless, such as leaving the Council to die, but Shepard maintains that he does whatever he has to do for the survival of the galaxy. At the final battle with the Reapers Shepard chooses the Destroy route, which eliminates all synthetic life in the galaxy, including the Reapers.

    Personality Blurb:

Shepard's life is so steeped in a militaristic lifestyle that he finds it very difficult to shift into "civilian" mode. It's not that he doesn't want to kick back every now and then, it's just that when he does he never fully relaxes. He's always watching for something, paying extra attention even when he really doesn't need to, he'll talk about sports or a card game as if he's discussing war/battle strategy. He often expresses frustration when put in a situation where threatening, busting in guns blazing, being an aggressive brute, or sending in a team isn't a viable solution.

He's not afraid to make hard choices. If they give him internal conflict you'll rarely see it. He'll leave someone behind if he sees that continuing to carry them is a liability, he'll sacrifice a group if saving them is not an option, he'll very rarely deviate from the original goal even to save the lives of others. He does so with seemingly no regret because he has no time to question if what he did was right or wrong. In his mind he can't afford to. However, Shepard is a man with a lot of internal conflict that he often squashes down the best he can. He has plenty of remorse and cares a great deal, but because he has the notion that he has to be strong all the time, he scarcely shows it. That's also not to say he won't carry the injured, or try to save the vulnerable. He absolutely will, but he won't kid himself into thinking it's possible when it's not.

Preferred Essence(s): SO I have nothing super specific but ideas. I was thinking something along the lines of some kind of great cosmic being (Cthulhu, Azathoth, Shoggoth, etc). I was thinking something along these lines works for him because the enemies Shepard faces are very horrifying on a cosmic level. They claim to be beyond mortal comprehension and serve a purpose greater than their pesky need for survival, and Shepard's life is nothing if not intertwined with his enemies. That, and Shepard's enemies find him beyond their comprehension. They don't understand how he, a mortal human of rudimentary flesh and bone, could possibly undermine them at every turn. Shepard is the cosmic horror to the cosmic horrors. Not to mention people canonically often wonder about him. How does he do it, can he be trusted, is he actually working for the enemy? He's an unknown even to his own people. Hell, even people who have been closest to him have questioned his motivations and purpose. If he's even the same man he's always been.

Not to mention, these beings typically are focused on the one task and one task only. They rest for centuries to awaken for said task and will stop at nothing to achieve their otherworldly goals. Shepard is very much the same way. Even before the galaxy was put in his hands he was driven. As an orphan he stopped at nothing to survive on the streets of Earth, and on Akuze he did the same to survive the thresher maw attack. With the Reaper threat Shepard continued to make countless sacrifices, even to his own sanity, just to defeat the Reapers.

Looking For: So I'm massively open to suggestions. Like my above blurb says a story where the essence is a cosmic horror, something that causes doubt and fear among people through its uncertainty of what it is or where it's from. Or something that very typically attacks someone on a psychological level rather than a physical one.

    Appearance:

So the thing about Shepard is when he was brought back to life a lot of his body was replaced with cybernetics, because you don't just fix a body after it's been shot through space and into orbit. Because of this, his general renegade attitude, (and game mechanics), the scar tissue in his face doesn't heal properly and leaves glowing red like lava through the cracks of a rock. Other than that he looks very typical Military Man; the haircut, his demeanor, his strong features, etc.

If he ends up with some crazy Lovecraftian essence I'm heavily considering giving him more of a otherwordly-dead-looking (especially since he has died before) appearance. I suppose I'll play around with this more when I have something more concrete.

    Abilities:

Shepard is an extraordinary solider who honestly should not be alive, but he's great at not dying. Aside from the usual skills that comes from being a space solider like weapon proficiency, battle strategy, his incredible willpower, he's also a biotic. Which means in canon he can control dark energy. To avoid getting into a whole spiel about Mass Effect Science I'll just say it's like using energy to lift, crush, throw, hit shit.

But that's canon shit! Ideas for the game I was thinking something similar to his biotics would work, because dark energy is everywhere and influences all matter in the galaxy.

Also, and this entirely depends on the essence obviously, the man's gotta have retractable tentacles. Again, once I have a more concrete idea of an essence this will probably have a little more to it, haha..

Quirks: Given the theme I'm going with here, maybe he constantly has to fight the urge to believe he's something far greater than he is, which will probably lead to multiple existential crises.

Goal: I'll be honest, I usually just wing it, so I'm here to try shit out and have a good time. I'm taking him from end-series so his purpose would have been fulfilled, except now he's still going and still trying to keep his galaxy safe I guess! I'm mostly excited to play around with him having to Save Things in a setting he's so not familiar with.

    Character: Wilt
Canon: from the end of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
    Age: mid-30sish?
    Bio Blurb: Wiki

Personality Blurb: Literally one of the best friends a kid could have, Wilt is a kind and helpful creation who loves to play basketball and has a probably with apologizing too much.

Preferred Essence(s): I'm heavily considering The Nutcracker from "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King"
Looking For: Something about a creation made by a human or something that comes to life? Or someone/something broken but still keeping on

Appearance: Wilt is red, ten feet tall, and very lean. He has long thin legs and one long arm with suction cup fingers. His other arm is just a stub after an incident that also injured his left eye, which is smaller and doesn't function properly like his right eye does. He also has two scars, one on each cheek.

Abilities: With the Nutcracker thing, I'm thinking he'd have the ability to temporarily bring toys to life/make them real. Like, if the toys look like they could be alive (like dolls or stuffed toys), then he can make them come to life, while toys that look like objects (like vehicles or even little weapons) could become real. Effects would only be temporary though, and he can't change the size of the toys themselves (so a toy gun from a soldier, for example, will always be that size, despite it being able to work). He also doesn't make the toys himself, he can only bring them to life/make them real.

I'm also considering something with sweets, referencing the Land of Sweets from the ballet. Maybe some sweets can be used as weapons, or some sweets can be used to heal people or something. These sweets he'd be able to create with a kind of magic, I guess.

Quirks: As the Nutcracker, he'll have an aversion to rodents.

Goal: I'm really just curious to see how Wilt will fit into a world like this.

    Hellboy | Hellboy 2019

    [personal profile] strongrighthand 2020-03-18 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Gann | [plurk.com profile] redlionspride
Character: Hellboy (Real name: Anung un Rama)
Canon: Hellboy - 2019 version. End of movie.
Age: 60 years old (October 9th 1944) But looks "Barely out of his 20's"
    Bio Blurb:
Back in 1944 Russian Mage Rasputin opened a portal that was meant to unleash a darkness on earth. The worlds best known secret agent, Lobster Johnson stopped him, sending Rasputin to hell and closing the portal, but it was too late. Something crossed over into our world. Professor Bruttenholm and others found him and raised him as Hellboy.

Hellboy grew up as a agent for the BPRD, hunting monsters and spiritual issues in the world. He has taken down gods and demons, angels and fables. Myths and other folklore are real in his world and he combats it.

He helps take care of the monsters of the world, though he is seen as a monster himself. His Right Hand is a stone hand meant to open a gate to a darkness into the world. Which is something people have fought to keep from happening. See Wiki for plot of story.

    (optional: Wiki.)

    Personality Blurb:
Hellboy is a bit brash at times, but he's a friendly guy. He doesn't want to be a monster or a demon, but he knows he can't fit in with humans either. He's a bit touchy about things like his appearance, his horns and his childhood. He feels like he was made into a god damn weapon instead of loved as a son he wished he could have been. He's generally a nice guy, but he doesn't like to talk about things like this.

He's the type of guy who would rather be in someones back yard with some beers, a guitar and singing for fun. He wants to enjoy life with friends not have to work to save it all, but he'll damn well work to save it if he has to. As much as humans tend to piss him off he still loves them. He's willing to fight the good fight even if that means he'll be hated in the end. He'd rather not be hated though. He just wants a normal life.

With friends he is very protective and teasing. With enemies, he'll go to far lengths to destroy them if he has to. He's learned that he doesn't want to have to fight other monsters, but he will if it keeps everyone else safe.

Preferred Essence(s): Baba Yaga - In Slavic myths, Baba Yaga is the wild woman or dark lady of magic. She controls the four elements, Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. She gives advice that helps others but at a cost. She helps those who seek her wisdom and gives them advice, relics, weapons, or locations to each of these things.

Looking For: Ideas on appearances? magics? I'm pretty set on this one if it's open but willing to hear other tails that one might have!

Appearance: He's a big red devil looking beast that stands 6 foot 6 and has a huge red stone right hand. He has a tail that swishes behind him and though the comics render him with hooves, he does have feet in his boots. He has horns, but he shaves and files them to hide them for the most part. They get rather long otherwise.

As an Essence of Baba Yaga, any time he tries to use his magic or give advice that is actually worth while, he becomes hunched over and one eye closes, as if it's gone. This doesn't always stick around.

    Abilities:
His natural given abilities is that he's stronger than normal humans, especially with his stone hand. He's faster, and tougher as well. He's resistant to fire and other substances from hell. He has a prehensile tail and his horns grow at an alarming rate that he has to shave them daily.

The Elements: Given his essence, he would be able to hold small control over the four elements. Earth, Air, Fire and Water. I'm thinking he'll have general control over them from his stone hand. Especially good control over fire. He'll only have control over them while mimicking Baba Yaga though, so one eyes and hunched. He won't be fast with it at all. It's more for small spells than fast paced attack spells. A flicker of fire for light, a push of a storm for wind, and so on.

Advice Given: Baba Yaga is sought after for her wisdom. Hellboy does not hold that same level off knowledge, but with this essence he will be able to call upon the mystics to understand what is needed. He will be able to hunch down, cast bones and read them for knowledge. This could translate to having information that others need to fix a story or not. It could also be love advice, life advice or general things like that.

Relics and Weapons Given: Like with advice, Baba Yaga gives relics and weapons upon request. Something that can be given to aid the other in their quest or life. These weapons can sometimes be kept for good or sometimes will be one and done.

Something Taken: To give Advice or weapons, he has to have something given to him in return. Generally something of equal cost. Since HB wont really know what would be equal cost for these kind of things, he might trade a mystical sword for a back of cigars and flapjacks. Some words of advice for some nachos. Food will drive most of his trades and deals.

Quirks: Wild Life will be attracted to him. Creatures, animals and other living things in a forest will be protective of him. Woodland creatures will sleep around his house and weave between his boots when they see him. It's going to annoy him for the most part.

Goal: I'd like to explore the setting and get him out and about with others that aren't connected to work or the BPRD. Let him live life a bit with out too much trouble. Which is also to say I want to find trouble for him.
Extra: I really like the idea of him trading advice for cigars...

    Minato Arisato | Persona 3

    [personal profile] afoolshope 2020-03-19 03:35 am (UTC)(link)

Player: Amanda | [plurk.com profile] mossflowered
    Character: Minato Arisato
Canon: Persona 3; spoiler he ded
    Age: 17
    Bio Blurb: Wiki.

Personality Blurb: The Emo Protag. Okay no. Minato is quiet, reserved, but very kind and super duper hungry. He's also a silent protag so a lot of it I'm taking from both the manga and movies and some of the cues from the games. He's apathetic toward death, doesn't really fear it in fact, and he's also pretty drowsy. He a sleepy boi (and hawt (his teacher's words, not mine)). See also: Jesus.

    Preferred Essence(s): Thanatos or Orpheus.
Looking For: Nothing else, both of the above are based on his personas that are already facets of his personality. I do have a preference for Thanatos but Orpheus is very much his true persona aside from his ultimate which is Messiah and no, I'm not making him Jesus lol

Appearance: He's got dark blue hair? And he's kinda short for a dude lol. I guess. For either one he'd be wearing some Greek type outfit because no, he ain't running around naked. As Thanatos he'd have black wings and a sword, as Orpheus he'd had a lyre and he can make wonderful music with it and he canonically has a good voice. You guys want a bard?

Abilities: Thiiiiis is where I'd need some help. If he can regain his Personas down the line, that'd be cool but not required. He's pretty resourceful but both Thanatos (who resides over peaceful death specifically) and orpheus don't seem to be fighters necessarily so. help?

Quirks: If Thanatos, probably some kind of affinity to black? He's already pretty nonchalant about death, even with his growth throughout the game. Perhaps treating it with more seriousness rather than being fearful or apathetic. If Orpheus, actually being able to learn various instruments as he was only ever seen liking to listen music and doing karaoke.

Goal: Not drop? lmaosdfjsdf okay no, (although yes) definitely for Minato to see how the story goes really and see what he can do. He finished his time in his own world and he would like it to remain whole while he's gone. He doesn't believe he'll ever return anyway, so he's a pretty good candidate for this along with the whole, "I died for this place, I'm not letting that go to waste!"
Extra: Told you I'd be back :3

    Barley Lightfoot | Onward

    [personal profile] gwniver 2020-03-21 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Nyanka | [plurk.com profile] Nyanka
    Character: Barley Lightfoot
Canon: Onward, before he goes to pick Ian up from school
Age: Approx. 19 years or so
Bio Blurb: (Wiki isn't that great, yet.) Contains some spoilers for the movie!

Once upon a time, Barley's world was full of magic and wonder... But magic was only available to people who were born with it and hard to master, so technology was invented and society moved on. Now his world looks a lot like a mix between our world, the 80's, and a D&D campaign.

Barley's dad died of terminal illness when he was a kid, leaving him to grow up with his mom and his younger brother. They did alright for a single parent family, but Barley never got closure from his dad since he was too scared of the hospital machines to say goodbye. Nevertheless, he carried on with his life- gaining an interest in the world that once was along the way. He's kind of hit a rut in his life post high school, and his loved ones would really appreciate it if he stopped thinking about the past (and his favorite RPG) and start thinking about his future.

    Personality Blurb:
Barley is a rather bold person, always ready for to fearlessly take initiative. Unfortunately, his boldness is a double edged sword. He has a habit of not thinking through things before he does them, which has gotten him in trouble with the law more than once. It doesn't help that he's stubborn at times and always daydreaming about quests of yore- The past and the TRPG that was heavily inspired by the past. He's made so many mistakes people started thinking of him as a screw-up, a title he greatly resents.

Yet he's not trying to hurt anyone. He acts with the best intentions, be it protecting historical landmarks from being destroyed, not letting the past be completely forgotten, or looking out for his family. He encourages his brother in his own special way, and tries to be there for him when he needs it most. If he must choose between his own interests and the interests of his loved ones, his loved ones go first.

Preferred Essence(s): My first thought was Beowulf, but I'm open to suggestions.
Looking For: I know I want to pair Barley with the kind of character you'd find in the Hero's Journey structure, be it the Hero themself, the Trickster or the Mentor. This probably covers a really wide range... No wizards, though, that's Ian's thing.

Appearance: He's a blue elf who also looks like a nerdy frat boy. Has a celtic tattoo circling his upper left arm, and is seen with a cast on his right forearm.

Abilities: In canon, he doesn't really have any magic abilites. What he does have is knowledge on how fantasy tropes usually works based on his TRPG game and the past it was based on. He also knows how to McGyver an automobile together, seeing as he spent a lot of time working on his van, and it still functions despite being held together by duct tape and rope.

As for his essence, I would definitely give him the ability to fight with whatever weapon is associated with his essence. Like, maybe a sword for Beowulf. Again, open to suggestions.

Quirks: None that I can think of, this might change.

Goal: Two things: One, letting Barley experience a world like the one he's read about! The good and bad side, that is. Magic is nice, but he'll have to get used to the lack of modern conveniences like cassette players and gas stations. Second goal is for him to make some friends, and maybe even stumble upon a father figure of sorts.

Extra: I'm taking him from early canon so that I don't spoil anyone who hasn't seen the movie. After a month or so I plan to canon update.

    Robert Small | Dream Daddy

    [personal profile] whiskeydad 2020-03-27 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Gann | [plurk.com profile] redlionspride
    Character: Robert Small
Canon: End of Game (bad ending) [this means he hasn’t spoken to his daughter, Val and he’s not with the Dadsona]
    Age: 47
Bio Blurb: I'm going to take him from the point that he's had a few dates with the dadsona of the game but they didn't go well. Robert is estranged from his Daughter Val and there is a point where you can point hi towards contacting her and talking to her again. I'm taking him from a point that he's not done that.

Not only that but he's confronted the other guy for dating Joseph after he had warned him not to see him. Argues that Joseph is bad and will hurt him. So he's in a bit o a snit. He doesn't like Joseph and the main character has ran off to his arms instead of Roberts, so, fuck love. He's not with anyone and he hasn't spoken to his daughter at all. His life is a mess and not getting better.

    (optional: Wiki.)

    Personality Blurb:
Dream Daddy is built up of different Dad Types. Robert is known as the “Bad Dad” Type, be it because he wasn’t the greatest father to Val, maybe, but mostly because he’s the bad boy stereotype. He has the whole leather jacket, sunglasses, smoking and knives thing going for him. He is sometimes known lovingly as the “Knife Dad” because he always has a knife on him.

Robert is a bit of a gruff and aloof widower who has a macabre sense of humor, a rebellious streak and a quick-witted mouth on him. His mouth gets him into some trouble, but for the most part he doesn’t care and can get himself out of that same trouble with a flick of a knife or a well aimed insult. His sense of humor will sometimes make people think he’s a bit sick or twisted in reality but mostly he’s joking.

He tends to make up stories for all occasions. Like on a date and trying to take over a tour group and making up a new name entirely and some crazy story to get the tourists attention. Or when he tries not to talk about serious things he will tell a story instead, sometimes making it hard to tell if its real or not. It’s easier than telling the truth, especially if it has anything to do with his past.

Which brings us to serious things. Robert is reluctant to talk about serious things, like his past, his wife and child, or his affair with Joseph. His past is a riddle we mostly don’t know about, but he has a tattoo on his hand that reminds him of his past. His Wife Marilyn died in a crash (headcanon: approximately 8 years ago), after being together for well over twenty years. When Val was about 18, give or take, she gave up on her father and left him to go to college. The two of them haven’t talked much since then. Robert is scared it’s too late to talk to her now.

Some things he’s into would be good music (He’s into Tom Waits), drinking whiskey, football, and a love for all things that are movies. He’s one of those types of people who will stay till the end of the credits not because of extras but because he wants to respect the art form and all the people who put effort into it. He’s very passionate about movies. Other things he likes? Coffee. Dogs. And most importantly, pineapple on pizza. You are a heathen to hate it.

In general, he’s not a bad guy just a tough guy with a soft spot. He might be called Bad Dad but he’s a loyal friend if you can get close to him. A good guy to have in a fight or just to hang out and drink with.

Preferred Essence(s): The Big Bad Wolf from the Three Little Pigs
Alt: Tin man or Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz
Looking For: I'm leaning more to the Big Bad Wolf and what it entitles, but if you think Tin man or Lion work better, give me some ideas. I do like the idea of him being in something that was a movie he would have liked, but I also enjoy the Essence idea i have for the BBWolf.

Appearance: Robert is about 6 foot tall, dark messy hair with salt and peppering going on. He's got a pretty good build for someone his age, and one could say he takes care of himself even though it's clear in the last few years he hasn't been. He tends to wear a red V neck long sleeve shirt under a leather jacket, jeans or cargo pants, boots and belt.

His essence is the Big Bad Wolf of the Three Little Pigs. He can shape shift into a very large wolf. Large teeth, yellow eyes, dark fur and loud howl. About the height of an average man when standing. He can still talk in this form, though his voice might be deeper.

Abilities: Shape shifting into a wolf. Tall and strong and fast. All natural wolf skills like scent and sight will be his. As well as appetite for meat. And because the big bad wolf Huffed and Puffed and blew down a few houses, this big bad wolf will have the North Wind on his side. Big and cold gusts of wind, able to blow houses down if not built strongly enough. Able to blow a person over, if not freeze them to the bone. A chilly breath of the north wind. In human form he can withstand cold better than most people, and sometimes you can see his cold breath even on a warm day.

Quirks: A craving for PORK. In any form. Can't get enough of it. And it is best when rare! "No, no! "Rare" implies dangerously cooked. When I say rare I mean just let it look at the oven in terror, then bring it out to me." as one wolf would say.

Goal: I want to get him out into the world and deal with being a story book character. He's going to like being a wolf though.
