§ campaign details: the tale of the bamboo cutter.
Some of you may have guessed it, but our story for this campaign is The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, also referred to as the story about Princess Kaguya, the Princess from the Moon. It's not too long of a story, but we are dividing the campaign into two Acts, with each Act roughly a month each. The first Act will be a little beefier than the second, but only due to the number of scenes within it.
After our last campaign, we have fine tuned how campaigns will be structured and run, but we'll always be open for further feedback and suggestions, especially from our new players! This is what everyone needs to know:
As stated on the schedule, Act I is going to start on Monday, February 18th and last through Monday, March 18th, which is a month. WILL WE ACTUALLY NEED ALL THAT TIME? Eh, we'll see. If things progress faster and scenes are finishing earlier than that, then we can bump things up no problem. But we would like to not take any longer than that since we do have a second Act to get through.
If you have any questions about the technical workings of how Campaigns work, feel free to ask!
After our last campaign, we have fine tuned how campaigns will be structured and run, but we'll always be open for further feedback and suggestions, especially from our new players! This is what everyone needs to know:
- Main Scenes. There are specific scenes that need to be acted out and will be the main influence on the final story. We provide some basic information, and then it's up to the characters on how it actually happens. Anyone can sign up for it, but we will expect players to thread out responsibly and at a reasonable pace. If you can't for whatever reason, a backup can be called in to fill in. We didn't follow through very well on this last time, so we'll be paying better attention to how threads are progressing and just informally check in with players to make sure things are on the up and up. There won't be any comment count requirement this time around as we just want to see how things go this run.
- Sub Quests. Smaller "side quests" for characters not participating in the main scenes to do. These are usually like scavenger hunts or culling various threats, such as Erasers or hostile Blots, or help with the background setting. None of these required, but they can help shape the story.
- Designated Log. We will post a designated log for each Act. Main Scenes will have their own designated subthreads with set up prompts to make tracking easier, but it depends on the Sub Quest whether it gets its own subthread. After the designated subthreads, anyone can make their own toplevel (we'll make a "divider" comment to help separate for visual ease) or make their own post if they want.
- Story Checks. For the Story Checks, we'll hold one at the end of each Act, so the next Story Check won't be until March. Those who are participating in Main Scenes must comment with their scene threads while everyone else will just need proof of general participation.
- Time. There is no OOC:IC time ratio, just a vague "the characters are there for a vague sense of time. For example, it may seem like only a day passed for an Act, but outside of the story it could have been weeks or months.

§ act i details.
In this Act, both not a lot and a lot of things are happening. For this portion, we'll be focusing on the bamboo cutter finding Kaguya, and then basically timeskip to when she's grown up and the five princes are sent on impossible fetch quests.
Setting. Each of the Main Scenes will have their own unique environmental setting, but for those who are not part of a Scene, they will be in a giant bamboo forest. However, everything is monochrome in color and sounds are heavily dulled and muted. The forest itself is also distorted. Some stalks seem healthy and strong, but others are broken, cracked, or shriveled up rotting. There are a lot of threats ranging from Erasers taking on wild animal forms to hostile Blots in the form of traditional Japanese demons and ghosts. In addition, everyone will find themselves in some new wardrobe. Those with Main Scenes will have their own unique outfits, but everyone else will be styled in traditional Japanese garb. They can be styled a little more to still keep the flavor of the character's essence, and all characters will have access to their abilities and weapons unless specified.
Main Scenes. We have 4 "must have" scenes, but then we also have a bunch of optional ones. So this is going to look a lot more than it has to be, but you'll see why it is towards the end.
If two princes work together, the settings will merge and we'll write it up so that either the items are in two separate places in the same location or together. It'll depend on the pairing, and the challenges may also change. To reiterate, we do NOT need all five princes, but if we manage to get all the slots, hey awesome. Once a Prince has a partner and has decided how the thread will end, comment here so that we can at least have that set (you can always change it later).
Optional Scene(s): Kaguya Judges the Princes. Completely optional, but if someone wants to play Kaguya and have her meet and judge whatever the Princes bring, you can. Although Kaguya refuses the princes, it is entirely possible for that to be completely different. The characters who played the Prince would be the threading partner for Kaguya. Not all of the Princes have to participate in this, but because only one character will be playing this particular Kaguya role, the threads for these can be short.
We hope we explained the situation regarding the Prince Quests well enough, but if you need further clarification do not hesitate to ask.
Sub Quests. Depending on how many people sign up for scenes there might not really be a lot of opening to do Sub Quests for some people. But because time is ambiguous, it is possible for those who are participating in Main Scenes to do any of these either before or after their scene is played out.
Final reminder that time will be ambiguous for this Act. The Prince Quests could take a few days for the characters to get through, so you're free to kind of assume that everyone will need to camp out at some point.

- Scene 1: Bamboo Cutter finds Kaguya. Self-explanatory, while cutting some bamboo the cutter finds the baby Kaguya within and takes her home where she would be adopted as his and his wife's daughter. We're just focusing on the "finding" part, and how that will be done is whoever is playing Kaguya will be stuck in a giant tube maze of bamboo. The Bamboo Cutter will have to help hack out certain sections so that Kaguya can escape. Kaguya can also try and hack their way out, but they have to be careful since it is a maze and there will be traps and such.
- Scenes 2~???: Prince Quests. In the story, there are five princes who go out to try and find and return certain items. Although technically we can fill the spots, we're just going to try for three prince quests at minimum so that we're not scrambling too hard with this. We do list all five so that players can have all options to choose, but it can be any three. Each quest has three possible outcomes that the players can choose from: success (retrieve item), follow the script (forgery, forfeit, death), or something else entirely. In terms of threading, princes can be paired together OR they can have a squire—completely up to those signing up. So for example, Prince #1 and #2 can work together for each of their tasks, and Prince #3 could have a Squire. Or all three can have squires, it's up to the players. We're also giving a specific challenge the characters must face, but the journey is otherwise up to the players on what they encounter.
- Prince #1 Quest: Find the Begging Bowl. They will travel to a crumbling temple to retrieve the stone begging bowl of the Buddha Shakyamuni. In addition to what they will face on their journey, their main challenge will be giant Buddha statue. The scripted ending is returning with a fake.
- Prince #2 Quest: Find the Jeweled Branch. They will travel to a remote island to retrieve the jeweled branch from the mythical island of Hōrai. In addition to what they will face on their journey, their main challenge will be a tree ent. The scripted ending is returning with a fake.
- Prince #3 Quest: Find the Robes of the Fire-Rat. They will travel to a volcano to retrieve the legendary robe of the fire-rat of China. In addition to what they will face on their journey, their main challenge will be the fire-rat himself and his vermin crew. The scripted ending is returning with a fake.
- Prince #4 Quest: Find the Dragon's Jewel. They will travel to a distant mountain to retrieve a colored jewel from a dragon's neck. In addition to what they will face on their journey, their main challenge will be the dragon. The scripted ending is facing a storm and giving up.
- Prince #5 Quest: Find the Cowry Shell. They will travel to a mystical forest to retrieve a cowry shell born of swallows. In addition to what they will face on their journey, their main challenge will be lightning birds. The scripted ending is failing due to severe injury or death.

- Find the Gold Nuggets. Hidden within the stalks of bamboo are golden nuggets. These represent the gold nuggets that the Bamboo Cutter receives from the stalk Kaguya came from. To find them, characters will have to find red lined bamboo to cut down. One would think that would be easy when everything is monochrome in color, but the red lines will also be very dull and subdue and obscured by everything else. This is in addition to the various threats within the forest.
- Exterminate all threats. As said on the tin, this forest needs a lot of culling. Just beware, the Erasers and Blots are dangerous and draw upon the forms they've taken on.
Final reminder that time will be ambiguous for this Act. The Prince Quests could take a few days for the characters to get through, so you're free to kind of assume that everyone will need to camp out at some point.
§ scavenger hunt results
Of the ten items, so far six have been claimed to be found! Four are still left, and with these details you should understand what each item represents. Since the campaign still has yet to start, if anyone wants to pick up the last four, feel free. We're leaving a little surprise for what they're specifically going to be used for, but you can guess some will be involved in their respective scenes. So for example, the baby doll and the hatchet will be used in some form in the first scene. In addition, everyone is receiving a few additional "power ups" and advantages for each item found, again specific to the scene involved. Another example, a Prince might be granted an item or power to help them for their quest. Nothing game breaking, but to make things a little easier and more interesting.
But don't worry, if any of the items are left unclaimed they'll still be used within the story.

§ cast sign-up.
We have a number of roles, so it's okay to double up if you feel able. We also ask for back-up volunteers in case something happens and someone needs to be replaced. Please only sign up if you will be able to tag consistently and often enough to progress the threads in a reasonable and substantive manner. Sign-ups will last until Sunday, February 17 and we'll give final calls on Saturday. As a reminder we only need three out of the five princes, but if we get all five, that's cool.
Now, here are the roles:
Bamboo Cutter: Scene #1
Kaguya: Scene #1; Optional Judgments
Prince #1-5
Squires
Yeah the sign-up threads will make this a little clearer. To keep things simple, sign-ups are a first come first serve, but we do ask everyone to include a second preference just in case people need to be switched around.

Phew, that should be everything! Once things get started it'll be a little easier to understand, but if you have any questions feel free to ask us.
