Here are some reminders about how essences work in-game:
- All characters will inherit characteristics and themes from a particular storybook character.
- Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
- The essence doesn't necessarily have to match the character, just make sure you pick one that you can work with.
- Refer to the Abilities section to see how abilities work.
- Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
- For a complete refresher, refer to the Character section of the Game Info.
- Feel free to hop into the Discord server.

But on a more serious note, I do enjoy the idea of Himawari being in the "villain" category. She's so cute and definitely not what someone would expect. So far I think the ideas for the abilities are cool! Either complete shapeshift or partial could work. Ooh, maybe even turn into a black wolf. And when she is one, she could run faster, have increased strength, etc. You could play with whether or not she would keep her entire sense of self or take on more of a "wolf" mentality. So mostly herself, but kind of a more out of body experience if that makes sense.
You could also use the tail to help indicate her mood (droop if sad, twitch if agitated, etc.). Although the ear/tail thing might now really count so much of a quirk and more just part of the general package. So you could have that and then something else that's a little sillier. Like being attracted to all things pigs or protagonists in general.
And you could definitely have her bad luck come into play, no problem. Make the wrong choices, situations get worse before getting better, probably things like that. Spreading her bad luck is possible, too, though would probably want to make it optional for folks.
I HOPE THAT WAS HELPFUL...
Edit: Forgot to give Evil Queen thoughts (mostly since you seemed more keen on the Wolf).
If you went with the Evil Queen, one thing you could play with is the concept of mirrors. She wouldn't have the Magic Mirror per se since that could be used as a character essence, but she could have compact mirrors. And broken/cracked mirrors are a sign of bad luck, so if one breaks something bad could happen, like a curse. There are also apples, and that could also be used with her luck. Maybe certain colored apples could be indicative of whether it's good or bad, and biting into one could just be a random luck of the draw?
Appearance wise, oooh you could do a lot. You could go all out in formal queen dress, or could go for a more youthful sort of princess look. Or royal goth loli. And a tiara or crown, definitely have to have one of those! OOH! Could have mirror aspects to it, too. If you wanted her to be more of a "sorceress" type, she could also have a scepter (again I think mirror shards) and could be used to help cast spells. Thinking both traditional elemental spells and general curses like a witch.
For quirks...uh... Obsessed with beauty? But maybe not as bad as the actual Evil Queen ah ha.
Okay, now I think I've exhausted my ideas on this. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some different characters.

But yes, I'm leaning to the Big Bad Wolf for the most part, if no one else has taken it. I love the idea of her having a Villain Essence too. She's such a sweet girl that it would definitely not be what anyone would expect.
I am def considering the Black Wolf thing. Like a friend said, it's almost like a black cat (bad luck) but a wolf instead. So I was thinking Black wolf for sure (also she had black hair). I do like the idea of a full shift giving her more of a out of body experience. It would also be a way for her to open up to others more. I like that a lot!
Yes! The tail too. I think the ears and tail would be good indicators for her. She's smiling through something like it doesn't bother her, while her ears fall back sad like and tail droops... yeah. I like those as ways of communication for sure. It'll force her to be more honest too.
As for a quirk, oh man, her having a love of pork suddenly, er I mean pigs. That would be so cute. I wonder if The Big Bad Wolf counts for the three little pigs as well as red riding hood /chinstroke/ but yes! Her having an attraction to pigs would be cute, and a drawing to any innocent looking protag maybe. Mmmm will have to look into that part.
But yeah, I think the bad luck is the part I really want to play with and incorporate. And the Wolf always has some shitty luck, but I'd love to make sure it's able to be passed on to others occasionally. Which yeah, it would def be a OPTIONAL thing. I've always left that up to others but it's sometimes a great plot device.
This was a lot of help actually. It helped pull together some ideas I was already pondering, and I think I am leaning heavy towards the BBW for her. Thank you!

But hmm which wolf is this counting as is a question. There might be someone else interested as well, but there can definitely be one from each. So you might want to talk with them just to see what their thoughts are! For a more "Red" focused quirk, she could be drawn toward people wear red clothing and picnic baskets. Or old ladies lol. Pies, maybe? Something silly could still be done for sure. There's also a bunch of other stories that features wolves, like Peter and the Wolf, a bunch of Aesop's fables, so there's definitely a lot of options to pick from.
Maybe to share the bad luck, a tuft of fur? ...A little weird, but it could be something more physical and kind of funny. "Why am I suddenly having all this bad luck—ARGH I'M COVERED IN THAT WOLF'S FUR DAMMIT."
And no problem! My fairy tale knowledge is limited but I can at least help with all the other stuff :|b

But no, seriously, the more I think about it the more I think I might like the Big Bad Wolf, from Red Ridinghood. And that gave me the idea that maybe anything that is overly Red might gain her attention like OOOO SHiny! Either that or a lot of red might kick her into switching to a wolf easier.
Someone did mention the Stones that the Hunter sews into the wolf and that made me go "That's bad.....luck, oh!" So I was thinking maybe she can pick up a stone and cast off bad luck by tossing it away, which leaves it to be something others can stumble over, ties into the story, and gives her away to be slightly free of her bad luck!
All these ideas. Ooo.

You know what would be cute? Okay I have two thoughts actually rotflmao. One is that she could have a little bit of red—but only a little, like a scarf or something to kind of indicate that she's from Red's story. The other was something more along the line of granny clothing LOL. Maybe special spectacles she could put on to use and give her disguises. ...Okay, now that I said that, I kind of like that idea lol. ...Although you mention red and Rokurou's daemon eye is still a thing and will glow red occasionally. And I picked out an outfit for him that would have red as well. EVERYONE WILL HAVE SOMETHING RED FROM RED RIDING HOOD HAH.
And shit I FORGOT ABOUT THE STONES that's perfect! A+ I approve.
I am seriously a fountain of ideas, so if you ever have more thoughts I'd be happy to help try and spew out more things.

Omg, yes. All Red Riding Hood characters need RED in their clothing. Omg. Her hair ribbons could be red! Bright thick hair ribbons. But also I am cracking up at the idea of a granny nighty for at least when she's sleeping. She can't tell you why but it's really rather comfy, okay? I do love the idea of the granny spectacles for disguises! Or maybe the glasses are a glimmer and wearing them takes away the woofish features. They're still there but she looks fully human.
Yesss, the Stones are my fav part of the story (and the worst, but I always loved the wolf most). Maybe if she feels her badluck is starting to either rub off onto someone else or just build up too much she can pick up a stone, cast it to that, and throw it away in the stone. Yeah, I think I like this idea.
You have been a wealth of help and ideas. I love it :D

end of the worldRED RIBBONS that would so be cute aaah OH what if she had wolf paw prints as pins? And lol a granny nighty, please do it. No one would need to know except her, but it's such a fun flavor thing. And glasses being a kind of glamour to hide those wolfish features would be cool! But would Rokurou be able to see through it, hrm. Not that it would matter, he'd already know due to super sensitive wolf senses lol. Speaking of senses, Himari's senses would already be heightened because wolf, but what if she could tell what kind of food is packed somewhere? Since the wolf wants the goodies in Red's basket. Or just sniff things out in general
suddenly part bloodhound. The glasses would definitely be an ability, though.I tend to forget that part of the story if only because I hear that version of the story far less than the usual "woodcutter/hunter kills the wolf the end" type endings, but I do remember that part now that you mention it. I think it's an excellent use of that particular part /nodnod
IT'S FUN I enjoy coming up with crazy things.

I mostly had more thoughts for the Big Bad Wolf, but wanted to keep myself open to other ideas just in case.
Oooh, but I do like the idea of the mirrors. I didn't even consider that at first. I like the idea of it breaking could be a sign of bad things to come. Very good. And yeah, I was thinking of the poisoned apple (or the comb, corset and apple, depending on the story).
I felt her bad luck curse would go a lot better with the Evil Queen when i was considering it. Like using it as spells for controlling luck in general. Especially with those mirrors as part of the image. And the cute loli queen style dressing would be adorable. She looks good in blacks and purples too.
BUT YES THANK YOU! You gave me a lot to think about too!
