Welcome to Forgotten Tales storybook character essence workshop! Here players can come together and discuss what storybook characters they are considering for their character's essence, their new potential abilities, and even ask for help if you can't think of anything on your own.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Workshop participation is required for Registration as this basically takes the place of the traditional application form, as well as posting to the Test Drive. You don't have to post together at the same time (you can do one first and then the other), but they are needed eventually.
- Participation in the Workshop does not guarantee a spot on either Claims or Registration, but you will need it to keep a Claim so there's no harm in trying early. Feel free to look over previous Workshops.
- Make sure to check the Character Roster and Essence List to see if your choices are not already taken.
- The character and essence don't necessarily have to perfectly match, and all characters will inherit characteristics and themes from that particular storybook character. You are free to be creative and take elements from related works and variations (like Disney), but try to keep it central to the original version. Refer to the Character section of the Game Info as a refresher on how essences and their abilities work.
- Storybook characters can be from any work of literary fiction such as fairy tales, folklore, fables, nursery rhymes, classics, plays, mythos, legends, etc. They can be well-known or obscure, and origins must pre-date the 1950s.
- Because the game currently doesn't allow duplicate essences, list your top preference and any others you're considering, but also be open for other suggestions. And if you see someone else list one you are considering, list it, anyway! Anyone could change their mind. Just don't be salty or badger anyone about their choice, otherwise it's an automatic boot out the door. The goal is to try to not only match the best essence to the character, but also one that people can have fun with.
- Although you can only register one character, you can workshop multiple in case you are having difficulties in deciding who to pick.
- Public Registration will open May 3, but anyone with an invite and current players can register at any time. Claims will open April 26.
If you have any further questions about this or anything in general, comment to the Mod Thread.

Player: Player ID w/ contact
Character: Character looking to bring in
Canon: (and canon point)
Age: (of the character)
Bio Blurb: Instead of a full written history, please link a wiki page AND provide a 1-2 paragraph summary of the character's backstory. If no wiki page is available, that's okay; you're free to link a write-up if you have one or feel like making one. The summary is more of an "at a glance" to help those not familiar to get a basic idea of who the character is and what they were doing in their canon. If it helps, pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme. What key important things about your character's history would you want to point out to others?
Personality Blurb: You are free to link to anything pre-written such as an app for another game, but for our purposes you must include a 1-2 paragraph blurb highlighting the main elements of the character's personality. If it helps, pick out up to 5 vices and 5 virtues that you'd associate with them and just toss in a few sentences about it. Again, you can pretend you're writing a blurb for a CR Meme.
Preferred Essence(s): Have one or a couple already in mind? List them here! Include reasons why you are thinking about that particular essence and how you would work it with the character.
Looking For: Open to other ideas? What kind of storybook character would you be interested in? Things you're not interested in should also be mentioned.
Appearance: Any notable features both for the character in general and any appearance or style changes you may be considering to match their essence.
Abilities: Whether you have an essence in mind or not, talk about what kind of abilities you're hoping to recreate or gain while in game. Any weapons that are going to be regained or explored? What abilities or weapons are lost? Skills?
Quirks: Are you interested in gaining any quirks of the storybook character? Or do you already have one already in mind? Need suggestions from your list? A reminder that the current limit is one.
Goal: What do you hope to do while in game? This could range from just having fun with the setting to exploring new aspects of the character because of the setting.
Extra: Anything else you'd like to ask or talk about. Can be about the essences or just general ideas of what you'd like to hopefully play out.
Questions: Any other questions you might have.

Della Duck | Ducktales 2017
Character: Della Duck
Canon: Ducktales (Woo-oo!) | Post-Moonvasion
Age: 36
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)
Personality Blurb: While Della has just as terrible luck as her brother Donald does, she deals with it completely differently: she never gives up, no matter how bad it gets. When the going gets tough, make another plan, basically. Stranded on the moon? Exhaust every single effort to get back to Earth! A strategy to defeat a monster doesn't work? Try another way! Leg trapped under rubble? CUT IT OFF AND MAKE A METAL ONE. Still, she does get a bit frustrated when there's no easy way out of something. She's even surprised when parenting isn't as easy as she thought it would be!
She's high-spirited, always preferring to look at things in a positive light. She can't possibly see that Penumbra, a Moonlander she "befriended", might not actually like her until someone rephrases her experiences with her in a different way. Even when she shows off her metal leg, she thinks it's cool and can only think of future opportunities she can use it for. She's also very clever, able to see outside the box and predict outcomes rather easily.
Like the rest of her family, Della thrives on adventure. She loves the high stakes involved and learning about different culture from places other than her own. However, this can blind her to consequences, as that's what stranded her on the moon in the first place. Still, it's shown that she can learn. Her experience on the moon led her to look out for all possible exits in case a situation goes badly, and to better prepare herself. It also gave her a healthy dosing of PTSD! Fun!
Being part of the Duck family means that she has a bit of a temper, too. While hers isn't as bad as Donald or even Huey, she's been shown to lose her patience and lash out; tearing apart a book, flailing enough to knock out her brother, among other things. She also has a fun, mischievous side, setting up elaborate pranks that could even have a dangerous side. It's all about the thrill!
Preferred Essence(s): Odysseus, open for other suggestions!
Looking For: Characters who go through trials and challenges for the sake of their family, especially if they're just trying to get back home. Bonus points if moon themed.
Appearance: The one with the snazzy pilot outfit. As an Odysseus essence, she'd have curly hair.
Abilities: None I can think of!
Quirks: The desire to correct her name to "Nobody". No, idk. Wanting to set sail constantly?
Goal: I really want to explore Della's character, especially with ones outside of her canon, as this would be my first time really playing her in a setting. And, of course, spending quality time with her family! I'd also like to work through her issues and, you know. TALK about her problems.
Extra: I understand there was a Della here previously, and it's okay if people remember her being here! She just won't have any memory of that time.

It has been a while since I've gone over Odysseus's story, but I'm pretty sure other will be able to help you think of abilities for the Essence! And I'll be looking into things, too, so I can be helpful going forward.
As for the quirk! Wanting to set sail constantly or just a general affinity for being in water vessels could be really fun. I like that!

She's just always trying to set sail to get back to her family even though they're, you know, right there. Maybe the urge will go away once she's around them! And maybe in time, she could acquire a bag of winds, though it can only be used once per week as opposed to once and never again.
no subject
And that's a cool idea, maybe she's just... Uncomfortable being away from her family members? That ties in nicely with her canon character development, too.
A bag of winds is a great idea! You could probably get away with no limits on it, too, or at least more lenient ones - once a day/hour, or like, the more she uses them in a period of time, they get weaker, and need to rest.

Odysseus is a good choice considering he had a leg injured in one of his adventures, not to mention all that he does go through. Her abilities could actually be wide and varied, such as strategic, warrior, trickery, illusion (such as disguising herself as a sheep or an old beggar), and maybe even invisibility for Nobody. Good at sailing but since Odysseus upset Poseidon, maybe her boat never goes where she wants it without using her bag of winds.

Ooooh, those are all excellent ideas! And perhaps being able to conjure herbs that can make one impervious to/cure poison, or some other ailment, ie the story with Circe. I'll have to do more research on the tales and come up with some other abilities she could have!
I love the idea of the boat never going where she wants it to, it totally jives with how many times her plans to get off the moon failed. I might have the bag of winds refill more often in that case, just so that she's not lost at sea for too long. She won't have her trusty Oxy-chew with her this time, after all!

Yeah, definitely delve more into Odysseus's story for more abilities she could eventually gain - as that is a thing that can happen. So you can start with a small handful and gain more over time.
It does, but hey maybe it'll lead her to new adventures! (And I'm absolutely sorry that one of your sons will be living on an island only accessible by boat or air.) Let's just not be lost for another ten years, that'd suck. And good news, Dewey can fly so if she does go missing he can go look for her.

Re: Della Duck | Ducktales 2017
Though I should warn you, Scrooge thinks that Della's from an alternate timeline where she came back due to him coming from just after Last Crash of the Sunchaser. :D He will just be glad she's come back even if she doesn't remember her previous time here.
no subject
She'll be so confused about Scrooge remembering her running around, and probably spend an unnecessary amount of time investigating why, but she'll roll with it! As long as her family is here!
no subject
Didn't you learn your lesson about that bullshit from Season 1, old man?And he'll try not to bring up her previous visit too often because "hey, start fresh because I don't want her to remember some of the more embarrassing stuff"
