Scamming Ring "Plot" Thing
Hey guys, Laena, here! A while back I had made Shizuo be scammed by a strange blue-haired dwarf, and Jo and I made plans for Dojima and Eustace to apprehend the nefarious scamp. However, we'd like to invite everyone to join in on some blue-haired scamming dwarf fun. Here's what we're thinking:
- Throughout the month after the current Story Eater event is over, there will be a scamming spree by the dwarf. He'll go by various names and have different hair color and appearances to make it less obvious. He's also the leader of an entire ring of scamming dwarves, so there are others out there working under them (with varying success).
- Players can have their characters scammed in any way they want, from purchases to services to whatever would make it fun for you.
- Players can create the scamming dwarf's appearance and can start reporting these acts of mischief whenever they'd like. You guys have full power to make up whatever and create your own clues, but if you need help we can try and offer some ideas. You're welcome to piggyback off of whatever suggestions and "profiles" have been created, too.
- Here are some recurring themes/features/hints to make it easier to notice this is the same guy or part of the same spree: crazy hair color; large, bulbous noses; missing a front tooth; short and quite rotund; may use "family" as anecdotes to help sell; will always disappear within an hour of the scam, and if it's a shop it will be cleared out as if completely abandoned. While the blue-haired dwarf is already pretty sketch to begin with, it is a pro and is capable of portraying himself as sincere, friendly, and trustworthy. Remember this guy is the leader has been at it for a while so he can't be caught too easily—gotta have some degree of difficulty. Of course, other dwarves of the scam ring can be easier to pick out and will range from newbies to experts.
- Eustace and Dojima will be the main leads in investigation and ultimately be the ones to find main dwarf, but other characters are welcome to help them along. Characters can confront their scamming dwarf and give them a solid beat up. Any other dwarves except for the blue-haired one can be captured or they can escape, up to you. We want this to be as flexible and fun as possible for everyone!
- Characters can work with each other or with either Eustace or Dojima, just let us know!
Once things start rolling and news of scams come to light, we'll have a joint journal post that everyone can gather to report their findings. But you don't have to wait for us—feel free to make your own posts and logs to create some CR opportunities! Misery and company and all that. We probably won't make the post for another week or so to allow players to work things out and get things started if they want.
Overall, this is supposed to be a light, fun little "plot" for silly shenanigans, so please have fun with it!
Just so we can have a rough idea of what we're looking at and can thread out things without waiting on anyone, please comment to this entry with the form if you'd like to participate in any way:
QUESTIONS
no subject
Character: Kazuma Asougi
Scammed? Sort of yes. He almost got scammed, but caught on before they settled on it. He was looking to buy specific ores for metalwork and realizes he was being sold a fake. They didn't fight him on it too hard (cause he threatened legal actions), so he let them be. The next time he comes by the place, the shop won't be there though. OR there is the option that he takes the dwarf into custody instead.
Clues offered: Possibly where they've setup, description of the scammer and results from his adventures with Shizuo.
Part of the team?: He can help with the investigation since that comes with the profession. Hyde might try to kill them when the ring is located. :')
Capture a dwarf?: I'm neither for or against this. It's within character to use a dwarf to get information.
Questions/Extra: I can't think of anything at the moment.

Character: Kokichi Oma
Scammed? N; He lies so often he can realize when someone is lying to him. So he wouldn't fall under the scam himself, but he would decide to get back at the dwarf who tried in his own way.
Clues offered: Addresses, trailing the dwarf to their home base, any potential magic tools (which may or may not be stolen)
Part of the team?: Not officially part of the investigation, but may look for clues himself and charge a small fee for information.
Capture a dwarf?: He might, but he might also decide to hold the dwarf for a ransom.
Questions/Extra: Kokichi is going to try and screw the dwarf over somehow. Can he manage to barter a particularly inept dwarf into giving him the scam item for free?

Character: Kotori Iida
Scammed? Y. Food stand with deceiving presentations. Donuts with only a smear of jelly or custard on the outside instead of a filling, a sandwich with all the fillings showing above the empty wrapped part below so it looks fuller than it is, containers designed so there's actually less volume inside devoted to candies and snacks. Worst of all, the prices on the signs are written so it LOOKS like a nice cheap number from afar, but there are two VERY tiny 0s written after it so people can't even see it. AND ANOTHER THING! Their "to-go" meals are in packaging so shoddy they fall apart and scatter all over the floor about ten minutes after you walk away with them!
Clues offered: Bread and pastries prepared at a related dwarf's bakery; crumbs or other food remains at the scene of other scams.
Part of the team?: Maybe looking for clues if it comes up
Capture a dwarf?: Probably not
Questions/Extra: Why does the food betray her so!

Character: Mordred
Scammed? Y, got tricked into buying tickets for some sort of wonderful sounding all you can eat buffet only to come back at meal time and find the restaurant abandoned. ):
Clues offered: Shoddily printed tickets, building used for the restaurant was used for a prior scam.
Part of the team?: She has no investigation skills, but would absolutely jump at the chance to get her hands on the scammer.
Capture a dwarf?: Sure, why not?
Questions/Extra: Nothing I can think of!

Character: Magica De Spell
Scammed? Y, magical items such as potions and spellbooks, only for them to be worthless or blow up in her face (literally).
Clues offered: Physical descriptions, and the vanishing after an hour.
Part of the team?: More than happy to KICK SOME DWARF BUTT
Capture a dwarf?: Interested!
Questions/Extra: N/A
