Cherche | Fire Emblem Awakening

Player: Name | [plurk.com profile] flutterpony
Character: Cherche
Canon: Fire Emblem Awakening
Age: 20
Bio Blurb: (optional: Wiki.)

Cherche grew up in the Duchy of Rosanne, a small country on the continent of Valm. When she was young she was training to be a healer, and might have stayed on that path. But because she desired 'adventure,' Cherche ventured into the nearby Wyvern Valley one day. There she came upon a sickly wyvern. She tried to help and got a burn scar on her shoulder for her trouble. The wyvern tried to resist, and got bopped on the head with a heavy staff for it's trouble. Despite this, she and the wyvern became fast friends and Cherche gave her the name Minerva after a legendary hero. Minerva recovered her strength quickly and Cherche discovered a talent for aerial combat.

Her talents were quickly recognized and she eventually became the most trusted vassal of Rosanne's duke. A foppish womanizer, Virion was hardly the ideal lord. Cherche got to know him well enough to know better though. (That is, that he's a foppish womanizer who is far smarter than he looks and has considerable hidden depths.) She probably would've served his household peacefully for most of her life if not for the conqueror.

Walhart, the great conquering general started bringing country after country under his heel in a grand quest to unite the entire world under his banner. It was only a matter of time before Rosanne fell under his eye. When the attacks came, and it was clear they were doomed to lose, Virion fled the country essentially handing it to the invaders. This was condemned as cowardice by his people, but Cherche knew he did it to spare their people the crushing defeat and many deaths that opposing Walhart's army would cause.

Meanwhile, the Halidom of Ylisse was entering reluctantly into a war with the nearby country of Plegia. Virion had joined their cause secretly, posing as a traveling archer, in hopes of finding trustworthy allies. He fights alongside Prince Chrom and his shepherds until the defeat of the Plegian king and then returns to Valm to see what he can do about his lost lands. For two years, Ylisse was peaceful. But in Valm Walhart's war machine was gearing up again, this time with the intent of crossing the sea and conquering the next continent on his list. He and Cherche warn Chrom of the coming threat and urge him to act. Cherche joins the cause as well and she and Minerva fight bravely. Walhart is eventually defeated. And then they go on to fight a resurrected evil dragon god and save the world. Like you do. She gets to meet her son from the future though.

Personality Blurb:

Cherche is introduced to the army as Virion's vassal, and she is very good at her job. She manages his schedule, maintains his gear, and offers him (sometimes scathingly honest) advice, and helps him train. Cherche always speaks politely and eloquently, even when upset or angry, and usually with a smile on her face. Although her bright, disarming smile even when angry can be seen as intimidating. She makes no secret of her disdain for Virion's womanizing and lackadaisical attitude and yet is quick to reassure him that what happened to their homeland was in no way his fault. It is very telling that she stays by his side even though his lands have been lost and his fortune gone. Several people, including Virion himself, have pointed out that she could leave at any time and her only response is that she knows. But her sense of loyalty is strong.

Aside from that, Cherche is also a kind, gentle woman with strong maternal instincts. She frequently offers to cook, clean, and mend clothes for many members of the army. She also appreciates when others help with the chores, embroidering a handkerchief for Stahl to thank him for helping with the laundry. Going out of her way for someone else is never a problem and she readily agrees to help Miriel with her research into human/wyvern communication. And even though Vaike injured himself recklessly provoking Minerva into a fight, Cherche still takes the time to tend his wounds. More than once. Although this act of kindness does come with a stern lecture.

The flipside of this caregiver mentality is her tendency to meddle in other people's problems. Lon'Qu has no wish to discuss his past, but Cherche still pesters him until he allows her to help. And even though Henry expresses a preference for dealing with animals over his fellow humans, she insists on taking him on patrol with her so he can get to know other humans better. And while she is kind, Cherche has no problem scolding her friends or offering them criticism either. When she catches Frederick watching her train, she reminds him that a gentleman would announce himself rather than spy on a lady. And she dashes Ricken's hopes of being a wyvern rider when she reveals that he simply doesn't have a talent for getting along with wyverns.

Despite her delicate appearance, Cherche is extremely brave and takes to the battlefield with everything she has. Even when she was a child in training to be a cleric she was brave enough to enter Wyvern Valley. And not long after, according to her supports with Vaike, she was riding Minerva to school every day. She's willing to spar with Nowi even when the latter is in her dragon form, although she mostly took on that task because Minerva was tired. But although she certainly won't shie away from a fight, she admits to Gaius that she detests fighting. But she takes up arms anyway because there are people she wants to protect and a homeland she hopes to one day restore.

Cherche takes a lot of pride in her fighting ability but is always ready to teach others or learn new techniques herself. As she says when she offers to teach Frederick a secret technique passed down in her family, it may turn out to be to her benefit. After all, they're on the same side, and he may one day use that technique to save her life. But she was equally willing to ask her own son for pointers on aerial battle, admitting that she had much to learn from such a skilled rider. And even outside of battle she's still happy to help her comrades improve. She teaches Donnel a number of domestic skills such as cooking and sewing. As she explains to Gerome, sometimes no matter how strong you are you cannot change fate alone. But with everyone working together and steadily improving their own and each others skills they can accomplish anything.

Cherche also has a very odd sense of aesthetics. She thinks the heavy armor that Kellam wears is adorable. And that it would be even cuter with more spikes. Big pointy ones. Bugs and lizards are cute too. Wyverns especially so. Her own wyvern, Minerva, is very important to Cherche. They've been together since Cherche was only nine years old and she absolutely considers Minerva a part of her family. In her supports with Robin, Cherche even roped him into helping her find Minerva a date. They have a deep understanding of each other and can communicate almost as well as two humans. Most of the army can't tell Minerva's happy scream from her enraged one but Cherche swears there's a world of difference. And it is said Cherche is one of the scariest people in the army to anger because she usually threatens to feed the offender to Minerva, who seems happy to oblige.

Preferred Essence(s): Snow White, The Miller's daughter, The Fairy Godmother
Looking For: Yeah the first thing I was looking for was something dragon related or maybe a knight, but then I thought that seemed too easy. So instead I'm looking for something that leans more into the caregiver domestic side of her than the badass fighter side.

Appearance: A beautiful redhead with a disarming smile. Slight changes are possible depending on the essence I settle on.

Abilities:
-Very good with all manner of domestic skills (cooking, sewing, embroidery, etc)
-Trained in wielding staffs, lances, and axes
-Well versed in aerial combat on the back of a flying animal
-Stronger than she looks.

As far as the essence, Snow White might give her the ability to get help from friendly forest animals? The Miller's daughter might be able to actually spin straw into gold. The Fairy Godmother goes pretty far off the rails but probably some kind of magic powers. Idk suggestions welcome.

Quirks: No real ideas for this, but I'll keep thinking.

Goal: Mostly I just think it'll be fun to see how she deals with all the crazy fairy tale stuff. And how she copes without Minerva.
