"It's a beautiful Tchaikovsky ballet about a group of women led by a princess, Odette, who were cursed into the form of swans by an evil sorcerer and can only be human at night. The spell can be broken when one proclaims their love for them. A plan is made with a prince who is enchanted by Odette, who in turn promises to make the proclamation.
"But the sorcerer is cunning- he sends his daughter, disguised as Odette, to fool the prince- and the plan is foiled. In despair Odette flees to the lake and seeks to end her own life, as since the plan is ruined she will remain forever a swan." Rei sighed. Perhaps he sighed in despair over the fate of the poor woman, but you'd only be half-right.
"The prince, in his own sorrow, vows to make things right again. The two... sink into the lake and perish together, breaking the spell and setting Odette and the other swans free." He clenched his hands into fists.
"But it's so tragic...! Did they need to die? Was there no other way?"
