Why he hadn't un-shouldered the rifle was beyond him at the moment, could easily take a shot- even if just close to where the bird was. Take advantage of his position, and the fact he had hands at the moment, rather than keep his position hidden amongst the leaves of the tree. Claws dug easily in to the bark as balance was well kept, eyes following the movement easily behind the visor shading them.

Instead? Well.

There was a sharp whistle, not quite giving his own exact position away with how it sounded a bit further away from him. Some little trick he learned. Not shooting? May as well be irritating then, for the moment.
