GAME NOTES #25: February 24, 2020—
Whoo! It's been a wild ride already, but the first act of our story is complete, and now it's time to roll out the red carpet for Act II, which is already rife with soap-opera worthy love triangles!

§ schedule
Here is our current schedule:
We are now on our first mini break for the campaign! Above are the dates for the rest of the acts. As a reminder, characters are still within the story during the mini break; the break is more if an OOC one than IC.
§ mod team changes
First up, it's on a bittersweet note that Satyr has decided to step down from the position of helper mod. She's been an incredible help the last few months, though, and we can't thank her enough. At the moment the current mod team of Lae, LWP, and Taisa should be enough to keep us going, but we'll open up mod applications again if we feel we need the extra help.
§ story check
The story checks are not only to help gauge player activity, but it's also to help the mods gather information and progress for the current campaign. For this half point story check, all players must submit proofs with the following requirements by Friday, February 28 11:59PM CST:
§ act summary
Congratulations, everyone, we've finished the first act of the campaign! There have been a few interesting character developments, so that's going to be fun to see how it plays out in the next Acts. For now, the story thus far...
The most surprising development is Titania might be the lousy mother and Carabosse might be better!? And we went in thinking Carabosse just wanted another youngun for her boy toy harem—
§ act ii details
For Act II we will finally introduce the heroine of this story and witness two very different love affairs. We have a few more scenes compared to the first act, including two bonus ones.
Setting. There are two many locations available during this act. Everyone will primarily be staying within Tam Lin's forest. It's more or less peaceful with color and music already springing to life, but it can still use some help. There are many weak and injured animals and danger lurks within the darkest areas, especially near the boundaries. Erasers are kept at bay thanks to the barrier, but some manage to slip through. While in the forest, everyone will take on their fairy forms from before, however players have the option to change them if they so wish.
The second location is the cursed village. There is a direct road that connects the forest to the village, and it's there that most of the danger runs rampant. From erasers taking on the form of demons to hostile blots cursed to be donkeys, those who enter the village must be wary—especially since once they step foot in side, they will transform into something else. The specific theme is hooved creatures, so this could be anything from satyrs, fauns, centaurs, to unicorns, minotaurs, etc. Fortunately this "curse" is lifted upon leaving the village, but to do so they must first cure at least one of the donkey cursed blots. Doing so will turn the blots to allies and they will help defend the forest from outside threats.
Main Scenes. We have seven main scenes this time, with two optional scenes.
Sub quests.
Reminder: Aspects who enter the village will take on a new "hooved creature" form and must help lift the curse of at least one villager before they can leave the village and get rid of the "curse."
Protect the forest and its creatures. With the Fairy Queen caught up in a complicated love affair and Tam Lin distracted by his own romance, the protection around the forests have gone thin, and many fairy creatures are left unattended and vulnerable.
Note: Aspects will have their fairy forms while in the forests.
Clear the Castle Path. The pathway to the castle is covered in thorny vines and unpleasant fae folk under Carabosse's command. Some are just ordinary plants, while others will come to life and attack anything that tries to pass them. These plants also seem more resilient to flames this time, some even spitting fire and acid. The faes will create illusions and puzzles for our heroes to solve, such as turning parts of the road into blocks and forcing them to try and piece them back together (like Tetris). Other faes prefer being combative, trolls and orcs battle ready to stop anyone.
Bucking Bicycles. Scattered throughout the forest, at first they seem like regular bicycles with toy horse heads attached to them, but anyone who tries to ride them will suddenly find themselves bucked and tossed onto the ground. In order to ride one of these mighty metal steeds, one must first earn its trust. Perhaps a little elbow grease might persuade them, or a nice metal carrot.
And final reminder that time is ambiguous so we don't need something to finish before we move onto the next. That's part of the pre-planning!
§ cast sign-up
Here are the list of roles for this Act:
Tam Lin: Scenes #6, #7, Optional 2
Bonny Rose: Scenes #1, #2, #6
King Oberon: Scenes #4, #5
Queen Titania: Scenes #3, #5, Optional 1
Puck: Scenes #1, Optional 2
Carabosse: Scenes #4, #7
Nick Bottom: Scenes #2, #3, Optional 1
Each character role has its own sign-up thread and will be frozen once filled. Sign-ups are a first come first serve, but we do ask everyone to include a second preference just in case people need to be switched around. To keep things fair, we'd like everyone to follow these instructions:
To reiterate, we have more players and characters than we do roles, so we want to have as many players participate as possible during the campaign as a whole. Hence some of the stricter requirements to ensure are larger spread. Of course, after one or two days, it's a free for all and players can sign double up and fill in as they'd like or as necessary.
Sign-ups will last until Friday, February 28th and we'll give final calls on Thursday if necessary.

The story checks are not only to help gauge player activity, but it's also to help the mods gather information and progress for the current campaign. For this half point story check, all players must submit proofs with the following requirements by Friday, February 28 11:59PM CST:
- IF YOU ARE PART OF A MAIN SCENE: a link to your thread(s) with a short blurb about what's happening will be enough for the check. You don't have to provide anything additional. If you signed up for multiple, please link all scenes you were cast a major role in. Comment length doesn't matter, but continue plugging away.
- ONE PROOF OR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: a link to one thread or entry dated between January 1 and February 22 (comment length does not matter), and a small blurb describing your character's progress. If you don't have a link, then a quick "I'm still here" will do. However, you can only do this once per campaign! So if you use it this time, you won't be able to use it for the rest of the campaign and will be swept.
Those who were on Hiatus during the Act are of course exempt!
And that's it! Just give us a thread of activity, a short blurb of what your character has been doing, and you're good to go. Feel free to throw in anything you think is noteworthy to the campaign. All submissions should be commented in this subthread. If you have any questions, ask them here.
§ act summary
Congratulations, everyone, we've finished the first act of the campaign! There have been a few interesting character developments, so that's going to be fun to see how it plays out in the next Acts. For now, the story thus far...
The two queens fought fiercely with sharp words and powerful magic, but in the end Titania (Magica) surrendered and muttered “just curse the brat.” Carabosse (Elma) did indeed curse Tam Lin to prick his finger on a spindle and fall into a deep slumber… as well as give the child an invitation to join her dark forces should he ever decide to forsake his family. (Fairy moralities are… weird…)
While Oberon (Dojima) was hesitant to trust his son with Puck (Mordred), the rebellious fairy argued that being rough around the edges meant he could better handle a crisis. So the king set Puck the test of retrieving a flower from a dangerous locale and returning with the flower intact, lending the sprite a priceless dagger for protection and a further test of trust.
Puck (Yosuke) trusted little Tam Lin (Rosalia) to hold the magical flower while the sprite carried the babe, eventually stumbling upon a convenient baby carriage. The two then enjoyed the beauty of the wild forest on their trek.
While still in pain from parting with their son and previous hurts in their relationship, Oberon (Crane) and Titania (Della) reaffirmed their love and trust in each other as they set out to destroy the spindles.
Puck (Junpei) raised Tam Lin (Bridge) more as a younger brother than a son and they formed a strong bond. While Tam Lin took after Puck in being easygoing and playful, they still had a love and protectiveness for the forest they called home. The two would often use Puck's ability to shapeshift and communicate with animals and Tam Lin magically gifted skill with music to soothe and heal injured animals they came across and to protect the forest from any outside threats.
Carabosse (Souji) did her best (and loudest) to intimidate Nick Bottom (Kokichi) into telling her Tam Lin’s location, but the playwright parried her at every turn and even accused her of being a yaoi fangirl. Eventually the evil fairy’s temper reached its zenith, prompting the soon-to-be donkey to challenge her to a children’s card game. (Alas, said card game was Crazy Eights, with no motorcycles in sight.) Bottom won through the use of sleight-of-hand, but Carabosse caught the cheater, and for his insolence turned him and all the town into donkeys.
The most surprising development is Titania might be the lousy mother and Carabosse might be better!? And we went in thinking Carabosse just wanted another youngun for her boy toy harem—

Doing so will turn the blots to allies and they will help defend the forest from outside threats.
Main Scenes. We have seven main scenes this time, with two optional scenes.
- Scene 1: Puck and Bonny Rose. Bonny Rose is a young noblewoman who prefers adventure over needlework. Upon hearing something amiss in one of the villages near her family's territory, she rides in to discover the village people cursed. Immediately she sets out to find a cure and happens to run into Puck, who has also come to investigate the situation. After some misunderstandings (mainly assuming the other is responsible for cursing the village), the two work together to undo the curse. (Note: will involve a "boss fight" of sorts.)
- Scene 2: Bonny Rose and Nick Bottom. Resident playwright Nick Bottom comes to thank the lady who freed the town from the totally random curse that Carabosse placed on them all for no apparent reason, totally. With Bonny still thirsty for adventure and Nick wanting some less controversial material for his next play, the two decide to head into the forest to investigate the legends surrounding the forest. They encounter various beasts and dangerous hazards and eventually separate, each one led astray: Nick by wisps, Bonny by butterflies.
- Scene 3: Queen Titania and Nick Bottom. While Oberon is out, some pixies in an effort to soothe Titania's loneliness over her son give her a potion to help improve her mood. Unfortunately, they end up giving her a love potion instead, and it makes her even more lovelorn for her son. In distress she heads to the forest where he is hidden, but instead runs into Nick Bottom. Because of the potion it is love at first sight and she immediately takes him back to the castle to woo and pamper. Will it be effective? Or will Nick be afraid of incurring the faerie king's wrath? (Note: whoever is playing Titania will legitimately be under the effects of the love potion for as long as the scene plays out OR the person playing Nick knocks them out and runs away; whether Nick actually accepts Titania's advances is up to the character.)
- Scene 4: King Oberon and Carabosse. Oberon decides to confront Carabosse himself to determine why she is after his son and meets with her on the edge of her domain. It's clear these two have a history (to be decided by the characters playing their roles) and sparks fly over Tam Lin, particularly on how Carabosse believes Titania is an unfit mother. (Note: can either stay as verbal arguments or escalate to combat.)
- Scene 5: King Oberon and Queen Titania. Upon returning home, Oberon discovers the queen still under the thralls of the love potion. Does he start to doubt his wife, or will he believe this is one of Carabosse's tricks? Regardless, he must cure her and create an antidote to undo the effects. Will he succeed? Or has Titania's heart moved after her time spent with Nick…?
- Scene 6: Tam Lin and Bonny Rose. After following the butterflies into the forest, Bonny Rose meets Tam Lin. Is it love at first sight? Do they start arguing like half of Shakespeare's healthier couples? Do they bond over their love of exploring and helping those in need? And why are there suddenly bicycles with toy horse heads on them?
- Scene 7: Tam Lin and Carabosse. Informed by one of her spies about Bonny Rose's arrival and entering the forest, Carabosse appears at the forest's edge. Here she will take on the form of someone important to Tam Lin and try to lure him out. Falling for the trick, Carabosse reveals herself. She will first try to convince Tam Lin to join her, and if it fails, he will be cursed to sleep. (Note: Which form Carabosse takes hints at whatever motive she has for kidnapping Tam Lin. Bonny Rose suggests wanting a new boy toy (or just using a convenient face he already knows), Titania the desire to be a better mother… and Puck that maybe Nick Bottom's yaoi fangirl accusations weren't unfounded. The character playing Tam Lin will fall under the sleep curse and remain asleep until the beginning of Act 3 when the role changes. Characters will not know about this side effect until after the spell has been cast.)
- Optional 1: Queen Titania and Nick Bottom. Depending on the results of Oberon's efforts, Titania will meet with Nick. Will it be to apologize and offer compensation for forcing a human into the fairy castle? Or perhaps another profession of love!? (Note: Will depend on the Oberon/Titania scene so best to coordinate.)
- Optional 2: Tam Lin and Puck. After meeting Bonny Rose, Tam Lin tells Puck all about his wonderful feelings. Having met Bonny Rose before, Puck believes Tam Lin needs a lot of work and provides dating advice, one of which is to write a love song.
Sub quests.
- Lifting the curse. Everyone in the village has been turned into donkeys, and those who enter the village will also find themselves "cursed" with a hooved form, causing a bit of havoc within the village. The temperaments between each one vary from morose to hostile, and both can be difficult to handle. Some donkeys even stray from the village and need to be herded back, or else they are attacked and killed by the Erasers that lay beyond. To lift their own curse, the Aspects must protect and lift the curse off the villagers. There are a few ways to do this:
- The cursed villagers no longer remember who they are, but a reminder of who they used to be could help. Although they cannot speak, clues range from the bits of clothing left on their bodies, their behavior, and the locations they tend to stray to.
- The more hostile and aggressive ones may need to be subdued; knocking them unconscious may expel the curse from them.
- Finally, there are some glowing white candied roses scattered about the village. Should the cursed villagers eat some, they will be cured.
- The cursed villagers no longer remember who they are, but a reminder of who they used to be could help. Although they cannot speak, clues range from the bits of clothing left on their bodies, their behavior, and the locations they tend to stray to.
Reminder: Aspects who enter the village will take on a new "hooved creature" form and must help lift the curse of at least one villager before they can leave the village and get rid of the "curse."
- The Forests. Tam Lin's forest has a barrier that must be strengthened every so often by using the pollen of the purple flower and casting it over the barrier. The weakest points will be where the shadows and darkness are greatest, and hostile creatures and Erasers are lurking. For the forests outside, follow the glowing mushroom path to different "outposts" to replenish the magic barrier in the area. Not only can they use the flower, but they must increase the amount of light to disperse the darkness.
- Fairy creatures. A cute, little fairy creature may help guide them and even become attached. If not leading them to one of the weakened locations, the creature will lead the Aspects to a special nursery where many of the wounded need to be fed and healed.
Note: Aspects will have their fairy forms while in the forests.
And final reminder that time is ambiguous so we don't need something to finish before we move onto the next. That's part of the pre-planning!
