Old American folklore, and no. Only person they really liked was a witch- old woman who made potions to heal people, studied white magic.
[Of course liked the towns people that gave the old hog scraps, but-]
Witch was the easiest term for what the old woman was, too. Wasn't wrong considering how the story went either.]
